so do u think thor, captain america or hawkeye and black widow could have been played better I asked cuz I do.the proformance of those actors in thoses roles was not great
and superman could nhave changed his uniform to fit the JL

Neither Cap, Thor, Black Widdow or Hawkeye were the front runners for the MCU. It was Iron Man, the entire thing started with Iron Man. That's what got all the hype going. "I'm here to talk to you about the Avengers initiative." That line alone right there.

If DC did something like that with Superman Returns it would have sucked. Mostly because the movie itself was awful and just the Superman they portrayed was awful. He didn't throw down, his costume was terrible... Just too many things wrong with that Superman. To start a DC universe based off that Superman would have sucked.

However, starting a DC universe with Nolan's BB? Sure. The movie kicked ass, the hype would have been astronomical if they went that route.

im hearing reports that china still owes man of steel 31mil
does anybody know if that's not a apart of the box office total
or will that be added when they pay it to WB

China better pay up quick! I hope that report us true because if so and its not already tallied in that would MOS at over 670m WW so far.

Where u heard jt?
Links pls?

If that was the case it wouldn't increase the box office total. That is what China owes WB.

Did batman 1, 2, 3 & 4 and BB do billions?

With the increase of the potential number of customers, inflation and the rise of 3D, the amount films make has over time generally gone up.

why did u stop at bb you forget batman was the 1st I repeat 1st superhero movie to do a billion and the title is called the dark knight and mite I add that batman did it without 3-d twice put the avengers bo and im3 bo together and it will come up to about 2.7 bil now take 3-d away form those movies and compare them to tk and tkr 2.1bil with out 3d mite I add

Still, the Avengers is the highest grossing non-James Cameron film ever. Although the really oddity is that Titanic is the second highest grossing film ever, and it did not have a 3D boost. Although with how many people saw that film repeated (I have never seen it, but I digress) I am not sure it would have gotten a 3D boost. Man of Steel is the 67th highest grossing film ever, at 644 billion. I think it can still surpass Star Wars Episode II. Of the 16 films that have grossed over a billion, 11 of them were made after The Dark Knight. The interesting thing is Star Wars Episode 1 is the only one of the above The Dark Knight films that got a higher percentage of its box office domestically than MOS, although with MOS not having opened in Japan and still being in theatres both in the US and abroad, its 44.6% domestic might not really be much different than Avengers 41.2% Domestic. Still it is a far cry from The Hobit's 29.8% Domestic or Pirates of the Caribbean:On Strange Tides 23.1% Domestic.

The Dark Knight Rises was 41.3% domestic. Yet, the Dark Knight is the highest grossing film ever that got over 50% of its box office earning domestically, and the 4th highest US grossing film ever. This would maybe suggest that Batman is more relatively popular in the US than elsewhere than Superman is.

Interestingly, Superman Returns, the 174th top grossing movie of all time made 51.2% if its earning domestically, and that movie was attacked by some people for having Superman not say "the American way", while even though in MOS there is no use of the phrase "Truth, Justice and the American way", Superman does say "I am as American as they come", and the US military gets portrayed in a largely positive and competent light. Although there is a general trend over time for movies to get less of their overall box office domestically. I am not sure that is the full answer. On the other hand since Cavil is British, maybe not having all the leading roles filled by American actors helps.

The Dark Knight Trilogy does progressively decline in its domestic box office taking percentage, Batman Begins at 55% to The Dark Knight Returns at 41%. Captain America:The First Avenger took 47.9% of its earnings domestically.

Althoug Dr. Seuss's The Lorax made in 2012 took 61.4% of its box office earning domestically, so it is clear that there are no simple ways to explain the changes over times. In the top 100 grossing films the highest domestic takings were Hunger Games at 59% and The Passion of the Christ at 60%. I do have to admit it would be easier to say anything about what the Domestic takings percentages mean if the foreign marker was more differentiated.

Although the Lorax is down from How the Grinch Stole Christmas in 2000 which took 75% of its Box Office earning domestically. This tells me that maybe the change from SR to MOS is largely a result of a general growth in the percentage going to the international market, with all films generally on one trajectory, but with different films clocking in at different points for various reasons.

On the other hand Batman Forever was just a little below Batman Begins in its percentage of domestic taking, so there is not a clear scale that always works.

Then there is the Blind Side which clocked in at 82.8% domestic in 2009 which makes My Big Fat Greek Wedding's 65% Dometic in 2002 largely feed by word of mouth seem low.

Intriguingly Superman:The Movie got 44.7% Domestic, this was where they boldly said "Truth, Justice and the American Way", even if Lois also implies all US politicans are corrupt. That is really low domestic considering that Star Wars that came out in 1977 got 59.5% Domestic (although this may also including taking from the special release in the 1990s). Of course there is always Spirited Away with only 3.7% of taking in the US, but that is a Japanese made film.

The Superman from SR would have made a terrible front runner for a JL movie. The costume was bad, the action was bad. They stopped the bleeding.

Plus they did not get the most important thing about Superman, Superman is with Lois. That is how things are. They set up an unwinnable situation. Richard was too nice of a guy to really root for Lois to drop him, and Superman was too much of a jerk for us to really route for them to get back together.

yeah..some are tv films, some are bigscreen.. the one from 1915 isnt even about the actual ship, just shared the name. so omitt that one.

Maybe you should include "The Unsinkable Molly Brown". Still, it is hard to call things reboots, when they do not share characters.

I agree that it will have a nice run in the $1 movie chains. the blu ray comes out 10/15 from what I have read so I doubt it will be out in the mainstream theaters. I think 16 weeks in the norm but its already in the 6 digit range and will only continue to drop. $290 would be awesome but I think it would need a special edition re-release to get another 3-4 million. Maybe Snyder can whip together some additional scenes and they can get a Labor Day MOS Special Edition release happening.

Here in Metro Detroit it looks like there are two theatres still showing MOS, one of which is the one I paid $10 a few weeks ago to see it a second time. That is in my city of Sterling Heights, and it appears they plan on doing two showing a day through the weekend. When I went a few weeks ago there were only 8 people in the theatre, but there were several other places in the northern Detroit suburbs still doing showings that have since stopped.

China always takes a big cut of the Box office take of American films released there but the full total of its gross there is always listed and that is counted into the WW take.

I know that alo im saying is if superman returns failed a batman would have not failed all im saying is DC was the 1st to announce the team up and all they have been doing is being scared a justice league would have worked a long time ago DC/WB hears a few people say a JL wont work and scraped it
they didnt let the GA decide it just a bunch of critics who dont know half of the time how to properly rate and judge a movie
I saw that when the critics kept judging Man of Steel to the orginal superman
it should have been compared to Superman returns instead

Man of Steel$88,288-28%501-549$176$287,122,3657Warner Bros. -- Plugging along. We'll never know what MOS 2 would have done by itself, but at the end of the day, as dedicated I was to the MOS push to X dollars, and continue to monitor its success BO wise and merchandise (sadly not many toys in my city of a 1million were sold -- I frequented the Walmarts and Toys Rus, and Target, all stocked to the brim and unchanged over a month. I don't know if it connected to children very much, which is something that The Avengers had with it, which certainly helped 2 for 1 tickets - parent/child. TDK wasn't "kid friendly" per se, but had a lot going for it, and TDKR well the last in a trilogy. I'm content to see how MOS2's development progresses and enjoy whatever comes out for what it is.

I know The Avengers is the highest grossing cbm of all time but lets be real Batman made the billion first and had the same title of

"highest grossing cbm of all time crown"
for 4 years so if u ask me batman is the true trend setter and it took 6 superheroes in one movie to break his record I have no doubt with 3d conversion he will be still holding the crown or will be in the 2nd spot for highest grossing cbm ever
I have learned a long time ago not to underestimate batman in movies or in cartoons lol
I love superman and flash more than any hero but batman is the face of DC comics and the icon of WB.
Superman/Batman will be the most grossing movie of all time many have already calculated in thier future
I suggest u do the same

before tdk there was no billion dollar cbm not to metion batman has did it twice on his own im just saying

Well, for what it's worth MOS has a higher percentage profit compared to its budget than Batman Begins did. Batman Begins barely made twice what it cost, but MOS has made close to 3 times, and might make three times the cost, although maybe not.

Does that adjust for IMAX 3D ticket pricing and the small amount of inflation?^

I hate when people try to underate The Avengers success, The Avengers was basically unknown before the MCU. So for Marvel to take a virtually unknown franchise and turn it into a multi-billion dollar franchise is commendable.

Clearly Batman has had more tv shows and movies than I can wave a stick at before TDK was released. So in my eyes The Avengers making over a billion too far more effort and was a far bigger feat tha an already insanely popular character doing it.

I'm reading Wolverine is looking at a 67ish% drop and it's still going to land at number two in it's second week.

Yet every few days we get to hear about MOS' second week.
sounds about right.

It's also pretty impressive how their solo movies are doing considering they were b-list superheroes before the MCU.
