It lost 61 theatres, which perhaps is foolish given how it's doing fairly well in the "dollar theatres."

That's not true, both Nolan and Snyder intended Man of Steel to be standalone (apart from Zack's nod to Chris with WE satellite).
I don't think you have followed the history of MOS. The main reason they were making MOS was because the law suit that if they failed to make one by 2013, they might lose the right of superman for movie. WB never have any solid plan for DC universe. If there was any, it was to be by GL to kick off.
and $290m is nothing to scoff at, regardless of what some may say.......
If that's true then why did Snyder say that other superheroes did exist in the MOS universe? I'm pretty sure he wasn't talking about movie posters. If you think WB did not have any plans for expanding the DC universe with MOS then you are just kidding yourself.
They have been hoping for a Superman/Batman pairing for a long long time. They definitely had plans for a DC universe with MOS.
If the rumors are true with Bale's 50M offer for MOS 2, the hype for that movie would be astronomical.

Sound like a dejavu. SR was one of the top10 moneymakers in 2006.and it did 100m less than WB expectation too.Right. MOS did great and will be one of the top moneymakers of the year. Anyone who tries to paint that as a failure or even a disappointment is kidding themselves. The problem is that WB had such sky high expectations for MOS. They were probably realistically hoping for something in the 800M WW range. So WB is now probably thinking that MOS did great and will get a sequel, but not great enough that they feel comfortable putting that sequel out in the same year as potential blockbusters such as Avengers II and Star Wars so they felt MOS needed a little help in the form of Batman.

I agree. Having Batman in MOS 2 will translate into great OW B.O. But Bale coming back would send the B.O. Into the stratosphere. If they pay him $50 million it'll be money well spent in my estimation, plus the Filmmakers get an added bonus in that they won't have to spend a single minute on Batman's origin. Btw I know this rumor was shot down a few weeks ago, but I still wouldn't rule out something like this happening.

And I dislike that. If it did great, people would say it's because they putting in batman; if it did bad, it's because it's a superman film.
Really? U really think Bale has such a stratosphere effect?
Johnny Depp n the same team of POTC couldn't help Lone Ranger... u know... n it's a standard popcorn blockbuster movie. Nothing too bad.

That's not exactly the same context because Bale would be playing Batman again.
A more accurate comparison would be when Depp returned for Pirates 4 to play Capt. Jack with pretty much a whole new cast and that made a billion dollars. In fact, it made more than Pirates 3.
