Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 2

The marketing has not started for MOS here, as I have already stated, I am talking about the entire region not just one Theater in City, we are not seeing any TV spots or wallpapers, only Hangover 3 and Pacific Rim are getting promotion.

SR made 3.2 million here, that may not look like a big figure but adjust it for inflation since 2006, add 15 % extra provided by 3D boost and then it's equivalent in 2013 MOS is 4.5 million here.

Looking at current state of marketing of MOS, I am not that much confident that MOS will earn 4.5 mil here.

Iron Man 2, Thor, BB, TIH, made less than 2 mil here.

185 OW is as crazy as thinking this will do only 250 domestic (that would mean LESS tickets sold than for SR).

I honestly believe Man of Steel will have a massive OW. How much that's the ultimate question. Based on survey results, many show MoS being the most anticipated movie of 2013 and voted biggest hit of 2013 over IM3.

It is very possible that Man of Steel can gross what The Dark Knight Rises could have earned if it had been released in 3D last summer. This movie will have a massive OW. I'm leaning towards $185 Million now. It sounds crazy but the buzz for this movie is insane!

MOS will make more than SR in its first month, probably close to SR domestic take during its OW. Saying it wont make as much as SR is just the most ridiculously stupid thing I have ever heard. Also the guy crying because it hast been promoted in Asia, WB, MOS, and Nokia all have a campaign in China right now where they are getting first dibs on the new Nokia MOS Lumia. Now if they were not promoting in Asia why even bother with letting China have first dibs?? Also just because a handful of movie theaters dont have MOS posters in some po dunk city doesnt mean Asia is completely left out of the promoting. WB knows what they are doing. They had success with all 3 Batman Films doing the same marketing. Marvel just loves to promote their trash. Without IM Disney/Marvel doesnt have one successful franchise outside of Avengers. I am not counting Spider Man because Sony owns him right now.

This is what I mean. I keep seeing conflicting evidence. There isn't a possible explanation why WB wouldn't advertise this movie OS seeing as it has a better chance to do well than pacific rim and hangover 3.

It is information coming from a handful of people in areas that proabably are of little concern to WB. They are promoting this movie. We have several movie theaters that I have been to and the larger ones have MOS stuff everywhere. The smaller ones dont and didnt even have hardly any trailers showing. It was the same at those theaters for IM3. WB is probably only sending marketing material to top notch theaters that they know have a proven BO draw. These little towns and theaters arent going to always get all the material. WB is going to make sure this movie is out there

Just checked out the largest Cinemas in my country including the 2 Imax screens... in the largest city... NO posters... These theaters had the Hobbit, TDKR, etc plastered all over the place before...

Last year, I actually barely saw any promotion for the Avengers in the UK. I am not saying there wasn't any, I'm saying I didn't see it. I didn't see posters on the bus, billboards or anything for that matter. There was a lot for TDKR though, yet Avengers made more money. I'm not entirely sure what areas had promotion for the Avengers - but somehow people just knew the movie was out.

You might be right... It's so disappointing as Malaysia is one of the top 20 in terms of BO... and they usually promote the heck out of all movies here (IM3 has billboards, bus ads, tie ins, tv spots, etc, etc)... IM3 made more than 12Mil...

Also, from what I am hearing (From friends who live in Singapore, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong), little or nothing in most of asia as well.. maybe a bit of tie ins... a couple of posters here and there... spotty at best...

I am sure WB sent them material to put out. it is up to the movie chain to release the material. But if WB feels that the movie might not do well there they probably wont use money to market much and rely on WOM

I would not rely on asking a few friends. I would need to hear it from retailers and movie chains to say that WB has not sent hardly any MOS marketing material. Unless you have a 100 friends in each location that can go to numerous retailers and every movie theater chain, its not reliable information

being in the top #20 isnt something grand. If it were in the top 10 then it would be great. 12m isnt much at all and even without it IM3 still makes 1 billion and huge numbers OS. in fact there is only about 10 countries that made over 20m which helped the most

I think you're not getting the point... if they are not bothered with top 20, they are not bothered with most of the world.. which is very unusual... and i am saying I have friends all around asia.. and I have just been to China a few weeks back (NO PROMOT THERE AS WELL)... so, if China is NOT important, I don't know what is...

And it's not logical either.. because they are pretty bothered with their 'other movies' here... just a strange silent when it came to MOS... it's the exception...

well the website shows a release date for Hong Kong but not China. So maybe they havent advertised much in China. Russia, Hong Kong, Europe, South Korea, South America, and Australia need to be huge for MOS to have decent OS numbers.
