I totally forgot about Monsters University because it isn't out where I live.

After Earth was a complete and utter fail. WWZ doesn't seem to be that way so far from what the critics are saying.

well i hope so but the director's past few films have flat out sucked hey forster's last film machine gun preacher is even lower than mos at RT at a whopping 29%

Possibly. Not off the table, but the thing is: Spider-Man has ALWAYS been popular in China even before the market changed when TASM came out so that's kind of a factor.

Superman is even bigger like in China than Spiderman. It will break records mark my word. May be able to beat our Ironman 3's total earning in China too.

We will find out real soon.

Something of note: out of 4,207 venues this movie is playing at 3,357 are 3D (that's over 80%) but only 31% of box office receipts are for 3D version

That along with what happened with the STID 3D sales could be signaling some major changes. Is this the beginning of the end of 3D?
Lord, I hope so.

With all the talk of MOS' 2D and 3D release ratio being skewed, it wasn't apparent at our theater. We had two screens each allotted for 2D and 3D, and the 2D times weren't skewed to favor the 3D. In fact, we had two 2D shows that fell in the super bargain matinee ($5.50) range, as opposed to the one 3D show.

Hah I actually don't mind if every Cameron movie is offered in 3D from now on. The man is cinema's marker for technological improvements. Thats' why he has proprietary ownership over his 3D filming method. Everyone else? They should be banned from using it

I think she is referencing the fact that he helped convince the theater owners to shell out millions upon millions of dollars for 3D projectors. He was one of the people that did presentations to the theater owners in an attempt to get them on board with paying extra for those projectors.

Now the theater owners are realizing that they might have shot themselves in the foot, but they won't be able to swallow that pill. They will continue to screw over their customers by offering very few 2D shows, especially on the largest screens.

@ERCboxoffice: WB's MAN OF STEEL is now estimated to be the biggest June opener ever w/ $113M, topping TOY STORY's $110M debut.

@ERCboxoffice: It's a bird, it's a plane...it's a new franchise. MAN OF STEEL swooped up $113M this weekend, $125M overall.

^Excellent news. I don't care so much about records, just want enough to ensure a sequel and more DCU movies.

Why do people want the demise of 3D? I don't like 3D so I don't go to 3D movies, problem solved. Let people who like 3D have it, doesn't hurt me any

I called a 130 million dollar weekend. Off by 5 million. Still, excellent start. Let's see about the legs this upcoming week and next weekend, along with the international grosses.

I want the demise of 3D because if studios make more money with it that means eventually, less 2D screens and in europe ,3D already dominates .
I dont want that to happen here .

Because the ratio is shifting to 3D's favour. MoS opens here in 10 days, and I'm actually having trouble finding a 2D screening on a decent screen at a decent time.

Exactly!

My PERFECT theater is 3D with D-Box motion seats. As a writer, and I'm sure other filmmakers at all levels feel the same, it goes further in the step and direction of what many of us want to do or try to do next -- completely eliminate the spacial divide between the audience and the screen and throw you completely and totally immersed into the action. It's also why you see some experimenting more these days with first person POV. So with that being the aim for several filmmakers -- you're going to be hard pressed to see it go away.

#ManOfSteel could very well match the $200M total domestic gross of Superman Returns by end of next wknd.

Because in to many situation the 2D screenings are being shut out, especially when it come to IMAX. In many parts of Europe you couldn't see Thor unless you watched it in 3D. And Thor in 3D is nearly unwatchable.

Possible but that would mean it has to drop only by 40% (from the $125 total) next week.

I hope Man of Steel earns enough money to satisfy the WB execs in making a sequel.

as for the 3D, I think studios prefer it (besides the higher ticket prices) since it's impossible to pirate a 3D movie inside a theater. that translate to more people watching it. boost the sales including the DVDs.
