I know we went nuts for it over here in the UK.
Opening day 6:30pm showing in uk cinema was pretty much full... Compared with opening night for Superman returns at a 7:00pm showing where (I kid you not) there were about 15 people in the cinema.

A friend of mine went Saturday afternoon and said they actually struggled getting seats as the cinema was so full... Brilliant!

Can you imagine if a movie like this had actors in the top 10 grossing nations? The box office would be crazy... IM3 did over 100M in China just because they shot a few minutes of footage with a couple of popular Chinese actors...

And now, it looks like MOS will break UK records because of Henry...

In Malaysia, MOS opened to $3 million. Comparatively, Iron Man 3 posted a $4.7 million opening while the Avengers did $3.3 million. So, MOS performance in Malaysia is quite good.

The Chinese didn't care for that extra footage. The 100M it made there had very little to do with it.

If Warner Bros ever doubted the Justice League was a goldmine, they don't doubt it anymore.

Superman is a well known universal brand. Been saying this for months, hopefully the numbers will make the point.

How did you know that? Ironman made 7M in china, IM2 made 15M, and suddenly IM3 100M?

I visit china a lot and they were promoting the heck out of those chinese actors... even their trailers were of scenes with chinese actors.. if you were in China you would have thought that IM3 was a chinese movie (exagerated here)

Excerp:

Hong Kong (CNN) -- "Iron Man 3" has set a new box office record in China, taking 130 million yuan ($21 million) on its opening day.
The appeal may have something to do with additional scenes added into the Chinese version of the film. The extra four minutes of footage feature product placement for a Chinese-branded milk drink and two new characters, Dr Wu and his assistant, played by top Chinese actors Wang Xueqi and Fan Bingbing, respectively.

Gitesh Pandya, editor of BoxOfficeGuru.com, described the scenes as "borderline propaganda" in an interview with CNN's Andrew Stevens. But the inclusion of the scenes, he said, gave the film access to the Chinese market that other Hollywood studios lack.

The Walt Disney Company and Marvel Studios teamed up with Beijing-based DMG Entertainment for the third installment of the Iron Man series. DMG Entertainment is also a co-distributor in China, where some filming took place.

China's Hollywood dream

With China surpassing Japan as the world's second largest movie market last year, studios that successfully appeal to Chinese audiences can reap sizeable profits. But navigating around the country's censorship and other restrictions has proved a challenge for some.

It probably had more to do with the Chinese company Disney teamed up with.

They knew exactly how to get the film properly marketed and distributed in China which isn't always a friendly environment to American films.

Plus IM3 had a better release date than ASM and TDKR which had to share the same release date at the end of the summer movie season.

The Avengers made $84 million. But, I must say that the Chinese production and the few scenes with Chinese actors definitely increased its gross. Mainly due to the compatible marketing.

Unfortunately WB didn't know that, otherwise they would have marketed the hell out of this movie OS, instead they largely ignored it.. I think they could have broken a lot of records if they did.. missed opportunities.. maybe they were stuck with SR's OS box office...

Lol, no. The movie is heading towards $400 million OS.

Whatever number it ends up with, multiply that by 1.5x if they had marketed it well.. instead of ignoring most of the OS markets...

Marketing wasn't ignored. It's been breaking box office and WB records all weekend long. If there was lack of marketing then it sure doesn't show. This movie is huge OS

While the numbers are very good they are not as impressive as they could have been. While i dont believe the critics are completely right they are right on some aspects and it is showing in the numbers. I see a huge drop off next week now makes me worried for future dc films they cant let goyer write the next one.

I must agree the movie has several flaws(lack of proper character development, abnormal build-up and rhythm.) Although it has these imperfections, it also has awesome moments provoking multiple goosebumbs. I just wish they had fixed the other problems.

For a non-sequel MoS is doing phenomenal. You have to take into account the discrepancy between the critics and the average moviegoer. MoS has an A- cinema score and is trending well on social media. It is also breaking records both domestic and in some foreign markets. WB has found their next franchise. 200 million WW is nothing to laugh at. Even if this film slows down, it will still break 700 million WW. If it doesn't slow down we are looking at 850ish. Maybe more.

As of now based on the current markets, that could change when its released in bigger markets soon.

It hasn't bombed in any countries lets put it that way. Usually if a film does well in one market, it does well in the others. I think MoS pulls in 100 million in China alone.

I wouldn't go that far. MoS doesn't have the advantages IM3 had.

To maximize potential earnings in China you always have to play ball with them if not they can screw you over. A movie starring Jet Li is slated to open a day after MoS. That will certainly hurt its earnings. So I think around $50 million from China.
