Its currently projected at around $112-115 for the weekend. $125 million is with the Wal-Mart number.

Really? I could have sworn it was $125 million minus the Wal-Mart screening numbers. Unless I read it wrong?

If I am not mistaken, each X-Men movie since X-3 has made less than the one before it...with First Class being the worst performer of the entire series. There is no reason to believe that Wolverine will do exceptionally well. It'll make over a hundred million...but I'd be shocked if it did $150 in the US.

Pacific Rim sounds like a cool idea...but I really didn't like any of the early trailers (loved the one I saw in Imax the other day). It could be a massive bomb. After Earth tanked...and I believe The Hangover 3 underperformed...seems like I'm forgetting another major failure this year as well.

Iron Man 3 (at least worldwide) will be the biggest movie of the year.

Fri - $44 million
Sat - $34-37 million
Sun - $31-34

Range is $109-115M for 3 days. With Wal-Mart $121-127M. So unless the Saturday number jumps up or Sunday holds/jumps there is no way it reaches that total for only 3 days.

Jack the Giant Slayer?

Ah, I see. So either way it's going to have the biggest June opening ever.

No one is really doing that. And I believe the marketing tie-ins was an add on to its marketing budget. So it doesn't negate it.

^This.

I think his main point was the movie is already profitable. At least I hope it was.

Lol I was just nitpicking. Iron Man 3 had promo tie ins from TCL, Fios, Oracle etc. and am pretty sure those companies paid huge amounts of money as well.

You forgot to list China. :o

Yeah I don't know the products that they featured on that extra China-exclusive scene though I am sure TCL is one of them. If that is not a huge marketing tie-in I don't know what else is :)

I went to a 4:00 show today, my theater was a madhouse.

My local real IMAX (pacific science center in Seattle) showed its 4 pm showing as sold out (405 seats) and I wouldn't be surprised if the 1 pm was also. On my way to the 10 pm sold out showing now.

Wait is it just IM3 or all Marvel Studios movies?

Jack the Giant Slayer?

That was this year's John Carter. With the release date being pushed back and the CGI being worked on, WB/New Line wasn't expecting this to do well here in the U.S. (although they were counting on overseas grosses to make up the difference). Even with the worldwide take, it's still a big writeoff for the studio -- when P&A costs and the exhibitors' share is subtracted.

It wasn't a bad movie though, just bloated where it didn't need to be. And more sadly, it didn't even look like it's bloated $195M budget. The CGI on the giants, for one, left a LOT to be desired.

It's the definition of mediocre/okay, felt like Singer didn't care to do more with it.

I am sure every Marvel has product placements. I was just stating a point regarding Man Of Steel earning some cash from product partners and I said Iron Man 3 had the same, they even had a China-exclusive scene that was also littered with Chinese promos.

The promo posters alone made me not want to see Jack the Giant Killer.

This movie needs to hit $300 mil domestic. It really needs it. Things like Jack Reacher can survive from int. superseding domestic returns but not this one. Really hoping the fallout isn't as bad as they're predicting for next weekend. Monsters U deserves nobody's money. If WB balks at more non-Batman movies I'm gonna slip into a sound depression.

Good to hear but that won't matter, at least not for the OW. Same could be said for Despicable Me 2.

Oh absolutely. Monsters U will be a dynamo as will DM2. Those will easily be at the top of the year's biggest earners.

Which begs the question why WB put MOS in June one week before a Pixar movie and gave it's best spot to Pacific Rim.

I'm definitely taking the kids to Monsters U. I liked the first one alot, and I like the approach they've taken with this one.

Also WWZ has me intrigued. I'm a sucker for zombie flicks. I mean honestly, who doesn't like zombies?

My only theory is that WB wants not only a DCU franchise but a Pacific Rim. They knew MoS was a much easier sell so they gave the movie that needed the most help the better date.

This makes the most sense. Just hope it doesn't hurt MoS too much.
