Just came back from a 10:45pm showing packed house. I think a good number of people in the theater with me were also repeat viewers. Bodes well for this films legs.

Damn, 10:45pm and it was packed on a Tuesday? That's awesome.

I'd be really happy if my prediction came true for this weekend:

1) Monsters U - $90 million
2) Man of Steel - $80 million
3) World War Z - $21 million (Really think this is going to bomb hard - no buzz)
4) This is the End - $14 million

To be fair the chain offers discounted ticket rates on tuesdays, so that probably played a part but still to pack a theater on a tuesday at near 11pm is impressive regardless.

80M the 2nd weekends is sorta unrealistic to me. the most is 70M it can make

Comparing 4th day in release non-holiday Mondays, MOS took in another $12,585,005 on 6/17/13 while Iron Man 3 made $11,267,610 on 5/06/13. :yay:

2 movies a year every year? Yep.
noy really.

i can take that 2 movies a year for all DC characters.

Marvel has at least 4!!! IM3, wolverine, thor, captain american!!

With the exception of GL, I have always seen that as WBs thing: quality over quantity.

Come now, that's hardly a fair thing to say. After Catwoman, Jonah Hex, The Losers, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? SR & Watchmen are iffy, but the TDK films are the only ones that are widely considered quality.

Let's all be clear here, WB is in this for money as is any other studio. They have a few winners, and a whole heap of stinkers...as with every other studio.

Pixar is probably the only modern studio where one could bring forth the quality over quantity argument.

Cap is next year.

But I think you're looking at the saturation thing in the wrong way. The more superheroes that are already being put out, the less room there will be for more. I don't think anyone knows where the limit will be but I definitely think you need to look at the saturation issue as a general superhero thing, not something that happens on individual company basis.

That's a good point, but I think that it may work favorably during transitional periods. When it comes time for the cast and crew of the Iron Man franchise to hang it up, start bringing out characters like Black Panther, Dr. Strange, The Punisher, etc.

As for the more obscure titles from the medium, I think that depending upon their subject matter, they can occupy their own niche without being associated with superheroes. Most people I know never had a clue that films like Road to Perdition, A History of Violence, and the Losers were based on comics.

Yes, right now a new superhero movie is helped by the already established popularity of the genre. There's no sign of any type of oversaturation in superhero movies yet, even though it was a popular "excuse" when MoS got some bad reviews.

When it comes to movies like the others you mention I don't see it as quite the same genre. I don't see comics as the genre for Marvel and DC, I see them as superhero movies. Comics is just another medium (like film, TV, books etc) and you can tell stories from all genres within that as well.

Nope...the MCU films are all part of the same continuity, we are basically getting the next film in the series twice every year. It's too much in my opinion, I'd rather we get an opportunity to miss and anticipate these films, but I'm old fashioned like that.

Wolverine is a sequel to 4 year old movie.

Saw it tue at 1:50pm. Packed. Loud clapping at end. Same for the show at 7:30pm I took a cousin to Mon. Can't wait for the Japan numbers to roll in after Aug. I have a feeling they're gonna go bonkers for it. Just a hunch.

School is out in June

Even so, I think the point is to gauge how much money MOS could make more than compare the films quality or appeal. Being that June means no school, MOS has an advantage in the money making aspect. While we figure out what MOS is going to top out at, seeing how it matches up to any film gives us a better idea.

Then the summer holiday in japan mostly is already over.

11.5m on Tue ? dy-amm !! .. more than i thought it would do

$325m would be an excellent start for the MoS films & I guess Phase 1 of DC.

only thing that remains now is a strong performance in the other INT markets

It's the WW number that is really going to make a statement in this regard. For better or worse.
