Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 8

I find Poni Boy's mission to be one of providing realistic outlooks and scenarios. The only people I see that have had a problem with him are the people that thought MOS was going to rake in $700 million WW. And that wasn't going to happen. He's certainly been the most competent poster on this thread for some time.

Thanks :yay: I'm a realistic person so that's how I convey my opinions. And I know some people don't like that kind of outlook but it's served by expectations well

Not sure this will happen, IMO it has maybe a 20-25% chance of getting there. I'm thinking it ends in the low 280's, 290 best case scenario. Does anyone here remember where ASM was after 12 days domestic? This may give an idea of were MOS may land possibly.

$190 mil

Is it about how much its bombing :o

See for yourself. A lot of the ones I'm seeing come across my feed are of people saying they like/love it, and others saying they've seen it (or will see it) again.

This just in: MOS B.O. went up an additional 12 bucks today, when I unexpectedly went again! Okay it wasn't that unexpected, but I did mull over whether to go again or not, and 'OR NOT' went down like a sack of potatoes.

Actually, 700m WW is still very possible. 398m in 11 days is impressive, and MOS has yet to open in various other markets.

Love your rational, I'm a realist aswell! Although I can let hype sway my opinion every now and then, meaning when a movie opens at 128-Mill, you start thinking bigger then initially thought!

With ASM opening on a Tuesday, and after seeing these numbers, its looking like a 280-mill Domestic BO for MOS. Not bad for a reboot at all, and a major hit with most fans. WB should be happy, and I'm happy for them, aswell as the staff and crew who worked so hard on this film!

Yes, the editing could have been better, they could have took some scenes out and implemented others to tell the story a bit better (scenes that they took out that we seen in the trailers), but overall im happy with it!!! VERY HAPPY!!!!!

Just hope Goyer does a bit better on part 2, he needs more laughs, and less ridiculous crap like Lois finding out before the Military and Superman how to beat an Alien race!!!! That was the most absolute retartedest (is that a word? Lol) part of the movie!!!

This should have been Sups figuring this out, NOT LOIS!!!! Just so ridiculous how once she explains this, no one has any questions and just goes along with it! I mean, the world is about te be taken over and the entire U.S Government and Sups simply agree's without question to her theory?

Lois didn't find out herself. Jor-el told her. didn't he???

Yea Jor el told her.

Wow, looks like I need to see the movie a 3rd time!!! LOL Whn did Jor-El tell her this? The only communication Lois and Jor-El had was on the ship, never remembering Jor-El teaching her anything else but how to escape? !

N-E-Wayz

Going to see it again in IMAX for the 1st time next week, my 3rd showing! I find something knew each time! :)

Jor-El (his holo-consciousness) to Lois: "We can stop them. We can send them back to the Phantom Zone. I can teach you, and in turn you can teach Kal. Will you help me?"

Seems pretty cut and dried to me but, some people get distracted by so much going on in the movie I suppose. Second, third, even more viewings... they do help. ;)

i guess this movie is really super fast pace that make people miss out a lot of details. ;)
and pay more attention to the conversation between clark and Jonathan, clark and martha... it will make you understand more about their feeling of having an alien son. it explains well and doesn't need more scenes to do that.

Monday's box office results in... it looks like both MU and WWZ has better legs than MOS... they lost less on their first Sunday>Monday vs MOS (although MOS had the entire week to itself)

They were both released on a Friday, though, compared to MOS, which came out on a Thursday.

Are there estimates for how much the new territories release will bring in this week/weekend? Should be a nice boost after MU and WWZ took such a huge share of tickets.

Then just ignore the 12M Wal-Mart figure.

Point is, if WWZ and MU opened on a Thursday, box office numbers for both films would likely be somewhat less than what they are now in terms of daily intake.

I don't follow how could having one extra day give both less money?

I don't mean overall. Just daily. For instance, if 10,000 people see a film on Tuesday, those same 10,000 people may not see it the following Wednesday.

If another film opens on a Wednesday (instead of a Tuesday), its numbers for that particular day will reflect everyone who wanted to see it from inception. Had it opened a day earlier though, you'd see a slightly lower Wednesday intake than what it would have made if all those screenings were collected in just one day -- as opposed to being spread out between two.

Nice to see Man of Steel is still UK number 1 and that it beat out WWZ

True.. but then MOS had ZERO competition on Monday, whereas both MU and WWZ have to compete among themselves and MOS... so, i think that at least even out the playing field...

I think we have been living in denial for a long time now... when the critics were harsh, we make up excuses for their complains (like maybe they hate snyder, they didn't understand this new take on supe, etc), then when the GA were mixed, we also make up excuses, like oh, well he GA don't understand that this is 'reality' and we dismiss their complains.. then when the WOM isn't as strong as we wanted, we make up more excuses..

Don't get me wrong... I personally loved the movie.. but i don't have my head in the sand.. i know at best this movie is under-whelming for a lot of people... and there are a lot of problems with it (real problems), which if WB listens to, could make huge improvements on MOS...

In fact, I personally think, re-editing this MOS could bring it from a GA rating of about 7-8 to a solid 10... a lot of the issues are just pacing/scene development/being unnecessarily.. etc...

Yep him and a few others I believe are hell bent on dragging this movie down and wanted it to fail from day one.

Honestly, I really don't see what you guys are seeing.. I know everyone have different opinions.. some thinks the movie will do 400M even, some predicted 1.5B.. I myself was (in hindsight) a bit over-optimistic with my 1B prediction..

Does it mean that just because someone thinks it'll do 600M (which I think is Tobias's num), that's wanting the film to fail?

And yes, some of us are disappointed with some aspects of the film and wanted it to do better, it doesn't mean we want Superman to fail? That's just ridiculous talk... I want as many superman movie they can churn out as possible...

C'mon be realistic. No matter how you reedit, people will still complain. If they can't see it or refuse to see it, no matter how you reedit, they will find other ways to complain about.

that is not an indication that MOS doesnt have legs. Lots of great movies and ones that were financially successful have had 60% or close to 60% drops its first monday. Harry Potter, Twilight, ASM had 57%, Spider Man had a 65% drop. They all went on to do quite well. Most Potter and Twilight films followed this pattern. Huge OW and decent following weekends until finish. I feel MOS 2 will need some polishing but it should make the money that TDK, TDKR, IM3 made, maybe even Avengers

Just seen that IM 2 had a 69% drop 1st Mon and a 74% drop the next monday...it made 312m+ by the way. so people saying MOS cant reach 300m or more are crazy

Iron Man 1 had a 73.4% drop its first Monday

I went through BOmojo and Avengers, Thor, Iron Man 3 all had 60%+ drops its first Monday.
