MMORPG.com and Gazillion Entertainment have partnered up to give away 10 Marvel Heroes2014 Team-Up Advance Packs in celebration of the game's first anniversary this week.
Team Ups are a feature in Marvel Heroes that allow you to summon certain Marvel characters to aid you in battle. These characters can be used actively or passively and each have a number of different powers to select from.
The 2014 Team-Up Advance Pack includes:

 • Beta Ray Bill
 • Clea
 • Deadpool-the-Kid

 • She-Hulk
 • Spider-Woman
 • Wasp
The pack also grants a number of exclusives, such as the Deadpool the Kid enhanced costume for Deadpool, Arachne (Black Suit Spider-Woman) team-up, and five team-up gear find boosts.

That's awesome, but how do I enter? Simple! Just tell us which team-ups from the pack you're most excited to see in Marvel Heroes and why and we'll select 10 winners tomorrow afternoon.

Marvel Heroes 2015 NearsJun 03 2014 12:56:16 PM

Massive launch continues Gaz commitment to improve and expand.

We're quickly approaching the imminent launch of Marvel Heroes 2015. The press materials are set, the assets are packaged, the servers are warm, the wire is taught, and the heroes are ready to rock 'n' roll. Soon, we'll launch and make new our pledge to delivering another year of impossible improvement and immeasurable growth (surprisingly measurable thanks to forthcoming infographics).

In-game, we're gearing up to unleash Surtur, the epic lord of fire demons and master of Muspelheim. But, that terrifying monster is just the beginning of Marvel Heroes 2015.

Throughout the course of our month-long anniversary celebrations, expect

 • Surtur Raid: The aforementioned ruler of fire demons headlines an epic end-game event for 10 players.
 • Omega System: Advance, alternately. The Omega System allows for even further character customization and progression up to and beyond level 60.
 • Daily Shared Quests: A new way to undertake missions and adventures reserved for earth's mightiest.
 • Achievements: Accomplish the impossible and be recognized – some are even catered to individual heroes.
 • Login Rewards: Showing our appreciation for committed players by thanking them with many awesome things.
 • Silver Surfer: The Herald nears. Will Norrin Radd's arrival presage doom, bring salvation, or just deliver a cool new hero to play? (Hint: It's the last one.)
 • 365: Days of. Gifts for. Oh yes, we have plans.
 • End of Anniversary: End of Anniversary: A celebratory surprise event to close out the month.
And that's to start!

oh and two new forums have been created

MR. FANTASTIC

Days of future.

As far as we know this has NOTHING to do with the anniversary coming tomorrow:
Gazillion Games staff recently visited Malesur's Stream and dropped some spoilers that show future content:

Oh... this is coming tomorrow though:

Thank you everyone who sent me e-mails to keep me up to date, as I was not able to be in the stream all the time.

Mr. Fantastic finally! Gotta get back in this now.
well I been mentioning him since they said they were using stuff from fthorg and venom.

Ok I some new stuff for to day too.

Gazillion is handing out an anniversary gift per day per account for players level 30 or higher who log in and talk to a special NPC. In addition, the team has toggled the server to boost XP, RIF, SIF, and cosmic chest rewards by 50%.

Marvel Heroes has big plans coming up later this month, including achievements, login rewards, the Silver Surfer, and a special surprise.

for here's the Redeem code for gifts to players the code is : ANIRUOK

and now for news on the patch notes Reed Richards/AKA Mr. fantastic and the silver surfer and some raid details

If your shared quests do not work, you should read this. tl/dr: They will become active at 12 AM on June 5th in server time (got this wrong at first, sorry). There's a timer by the shared quests showing the time remaining before reset/activation.
Shared Quests should now work for everyone.
People are discussing ways to beat the (world first ARPG) raid here and more details on Raids here: Raids FAQ
The hero and costume BOGO are not active anymore.
MarvelHeroes.com has a brand new 2015 worthy design that you should check out!
Here's an excerpt from the Marvel Heroes 2015 announcement:
"Throughout the course of our month-long anniversary celebrations, expect:

 • Surtur Raid: The aforementioned ruler of fire demons headlines an epic end-game event for 10 players.
 • Omega System: Advance, alternately. The Omega System allows for even further character customization and progression up to and beyond level 60.

 • 365: Days of. Gifts for. Oh yes, we have plans.
 • End of Anniversary: End of Anniversary: A celebratory surprise event to close out the month.
 • Oh... Our kickoff is going to include a big weekend event, too.
So not all of these things will be available once the patch goes live, but some of them will be released at a later time this month. Given the current state of the Test-Center at least the things that I posted here will be available today!
Remember that this is the perfect opportunity to get your friends back or newly into the game as the gifts that we will get throughout the event will be a nice foundation not only for starters.
GeeksWithWives.com had David Brevik join their podcast. You can check it out here.
News about Silver Surfer:

 • Test center this weekend (pending final VFX approvals)
 • Release late next week and shipped to Advance Pack owners on morning of release.

Marvel Heroes : The Amazing Road Since Launch

Posted Jun 05, 2014 by Suzie Ford

Marvel Heroes has traveled an amazing road since launching in June of 2013. As Gazillion Entertainment prepares big anniversary happenings and to propel the game into its second year, we wanted to hear from Dave Brevik himself about the fantastic journey he and his team have been on. See what he had to say in our exclusive interview.
Read more of Bill Murphy's Marvel Heroes: The Amazing Road Since Launch.

MMORPG.com: How far you guys have come since launch! What's the last year been like, from your perspective?
Dave Brevik: The game has come a long ways since launch. The team has done an incredible job. We have worked very hard on trying to make Marvel Heroes the best ARPG in the world. There have been many late nights, many constructive conversations with the community and a lot of team-pride as the game continues to grow. We have doubled our DAU in the last six months and we continue to see fantastic growth. With this anniversary, it is an opportunity to expose the game to new players and have them join in the fun.

MMORPG.com: What do you think was Marvel Heroes' biggest hurdle to overcome in its first year?
Dave Brevik: There have been many hurdles, but our rocky start and thin feature-set were big problems. This created an opinion of the game that stuck with it for a long time. I think we are well past that, but it remains a secret with gamers. There have been many other free-to-play games that launched a bit early, but became big hits after a lot of iteration.
So, rather than giving up, we invested in what we had and spent the last year making thousands of improvements. I am really excited about the next year.

brevik.jpg
MMORPG.com: Of all the additions and changes, what's been your personal favorite?
Dave Brevik: My favorite addition was the very first: Eternity Splinters. It was my favorite for a number of reasons. First, I thought it showed the community that we are willing to change anything. All features and designs can be improved and we were not satisfied. We changed the business model with that change, allowing players to earn any hero in the game by playing. Secondly, it really showed off our ability to listen to the community and react to their feedback. And lastly, it happened so quickly, it set the standard and pace of our changes. We patch every week. We have added more content and features to this game than any other product that I know about.
MMORPG.com: Now the flip-side... what change do you wish you could go back and do-over?
Dave Brevik: I don’t think there has been a feature that I wish we could do-over. With weekly patches, we can rapidly iterate on anything we do. The only do-over I wish we could have done would have been to label the game “open-beta” at launch and lifted the beta tag after several months, Gmail-style.

MarvelGroup_t.jpg
MMORPG.com: What sort of plans do you have coming up for the anniversary? Care to shed the light on what that counter's all about?
Dave Brevik: The countdown timer is all about the anniversary. Marvel Heroes has changed so much in the last year, it deserves a new name. Our first season has come to an end and our second season is beginning. Marvel Heroes will now be called Marvel Heroes 2015. You see this naming style used in sports-games, office software and even the auto-industry. We are proud to break this ground for MMOs.
We have an incredible amount of fun things happening in-game for the anniversary. First, we are launching our first Raid featuring Surtur, the Omega system end-game advancement, server-wide shared quests, trading, Mac Open Beta and many other features in this month of celebration. Next, we are having an incredible give-away this week. We are handing out 365 gifts, including a Punisher costume, a free stash tab, unique items and many other fun things. Lastly, there will be live events happening and special bonuses given.
MMORPG.com: Will Marvel Heroes be showing us anything at E3?
Dave Brevik: We have some meetings there, but no plans for the show floor this year. We may end up doing a few of the other shows later this year. It was just too close to our anniversary to focus on a booth as well.

MarvelHulk_t.jpg
MMORPG.com: One final, personal question... how come we can't play Agent Coulson, yet? Or at least have him run around with us as a pet. Work it out!
Dave Brevik: Agreed! Putting our top people on it immediately. Top. People.

Ok the live stream is over and this is from the poster Juy justin on the marvel heroes forum this is a breakdown what the dev's told on reddit
David Brevik Q and A - @reddit_AMA

BELOW YOU WILL FIND THE Q&A WITH DAVID BREVIK ON REDDIT.

Source:http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/commen...vik_ceo_of_gazillion_best_known_for/?sort=old
Q. do you think time is linear or cyclical?
both
Q. Any plans on changing the retcon system ?
no plans at this time
Q. Can we get them to drop again then ? Or at a cheaper price (less splinters ? cube shards ?) With the new patch there are a lot of new builds we can try.
We will look into the drop rate. I have heard this a few times from a few people.
Q. Hello Mr. Brevik. I was disappointed to hear that Shared Legendary Questing was abandoned, but I think that the new Shared Daily Quest system shows some potential. Are there any plans to overhaul the current rewards provided for completing a Shared Daily Quest (in particular a large sum of experience to match/exceed that which is provided by Legendary Quests)? I feel that it's important to provide strong incentives for grouping, and in its current state, it doesn't feel like the Shared Daily Quest system provides enough of this. Are there any plans in the near future to further incentivize group play (particularly while leveling) and would you be able to speak to them?
There is a problem with the rewards right now for Shared Daily Quests. Some of the rewards (XP/omega-orb) appear as soon as you complete the quest. The other part of the reward is suck into your inventory. We are going to fix this in the future, but both are being rewarded, it just isn't obvious.
Q. I have completed the MM daily twice now. While the chest rewards were indeed in my inventory, neither time did I see a XP/Omega Orb drop from completing it. I know you said there is supposed to be XP drops from them but the way it works now makes LQ still the way to go. I look forward to when/if this gets fixed. <3
Well we just patched, so if it wasn't working before, look for it today.
Q. What are your thoughts on Diablo III? Did you think it was as bad as people say it was?
I liked D3. I think the game is even better after the last expansion. I had different plans for D3, but they did a good job.
Q. What is something that has made you just stop and laugh while playing? 3 personal examples: 1: I saw 2 cops in MM firing away at a gang member tagging a building. 2: On my 1st hero I thought "~bound to X~" meant I needed a matrix of unbinding to remove it, so I wore the same eq until lvl 51 when a lag click showed me the light lol. 3: I got my first pet drop, Old Lace, the day before we all got Old Lace. I try my best to laugh instead of get mad. By the way, have you ever rage quit while playing Marvel Heroes/any-game?
I laugh a lot while playing. You should watch my streams on Twitch with my wife "thejunglequeen". We laugh all the time. Those are funny examples and I can't of anything off-hand. I have never rage-quit MH, but I rage-quit EQ for a few days when I got caught in a death loop with my Necro and de-leveled from 55 to 52. After a few days, I went back and played again, but switched to Bard. It took years for me to play my necro again.
Q. Mr. B, Now that a portion of the raids and the Omega system has been implemented, what are some other "Big" features your team is planning? (Outside of future raids)
We have a bunch of plans for this month. The next pretty big feature is Achievements coming later this month (hopefully. on track atm). The next really big thing will be story focused.
Q. Would you rather fight 1000 duck-sized horses, or one horse-sized Jeff "Doomsaw" Donais?
Doomsaw is horse-sized, so Doomsaw. It's on!
Q. 1) Any plans on an Enchanced for IM (yes im talking about rescue suit) 2) What plans do you have for raids? is there gonna be a loot table exclusive to raid tied whit a currency system to get said "sets"?
1) I would LOVE to put Rescue into the game 2) Yes -- very similar to WoW
Q. Hello Mr. Brevik. Thank you for doing an AMA. What is the latest information on Stark Tech? Happy Birthday to MH!
Thanks! Stark Tech is not completed, but still on the road-map. It won't be this month.

Michael Bitton : Marvel Heroes Team Ups We'd Like to See

Posted Jun 18, 2014

Gazillion has a 2014 Team Up Advance Pack for sale in Marvel Heroes that allows players to pre-purchase the main slate of team-ups coming this year so we more or less know which team-ups we’ll be able to acquire this year (aside from surprises, of course). With that in mind, I’d like to share a couple of team-ups I’d like to see Gaz add to Marvel Heroes in the future. Feel free to share your own shortlist in the comments.
Read more of Michael Bitton's Marvel Heroes Team Ups We'd Like to See.
mhteamup.jpg

Earlier this year Gazillion added a follower system to Marvel Heroes called “Team Ups”. Unlike generic followers you might find in other games, Marvel Heroes’ version uses notable Marvel characters, some of which may be better suited to a role like this versus as a full-blown playable character.

Gazillion also has a 2014 Team Up Advance Pack for sale that allows players to pre-purchase the main slate of team-ups coming this year so we more or less know which team-ups we’ll be able to acquire this year (aside from surprises, of course). With that in mind, I’d like to share a couple of team-ups I’d like to see Gaz add to Marvel Heroes in the future. Feel free to share your own shortlist in the comments.
Sif
Like most of these I’ll be listing today, I’d love to see Sif as a fully playable character, but if there were any notable characters that would be a shoe-in as a team-up hero, one would have to be Lady Sif. Let’s be honest, her kit would probably be pretty basic as a full hero in terms of gameplay and visual effects, but she’s still a great character that would be fun to have as a companion for Thor – or perhaps even Loki.

sif.jpg

Agent Coulson/Hill
Agent Coulson with a Maria Hill enhanced costume (a suggestion by Gaz themselves) would be great for those playing Avengers characters. Clark Gregg really embraces the Coulson character and I can see Coulson being a supremely entertaining team-up, if nothing else. There’s no way his voiceover would be anything less than incredible. For the more serious types, Maria Hill would be a sufficiently crabby alternative.

coulson.jpg

War Machine
Ol' Rhodey just wouldn’t be well served as a mere enhanced costume for Iron Man, so if he may be a while before we see him as a playable hero, why not put him in as a team-up first? From a gameplay point of view, I could see his additional utility focused on spirit restoration, filling a niche that we haven’t seen yet from existing team-up options.

warmachine.jpg

Black Cat
Another character with plenty of overlap in existing hero kits; there are just way too many agile melee characters and Felicia’s kit wouldn’t really do a whole lot to set itself apart. Not that I wouldn’t love to see Black Cat playable, I just think she’d make a better companion, at least for now. With a bleed heavy kit, she could be a great source of additional DPS that’s always ticking.

blackcat.jpg

Rescue
This is a bit of an odd one in that I don’t actually care for this character much at all. Pepper Potts is all right, I suppose, but Rescue doesn’t do a whole lot for me. It also doesn’t help I found her incredibly annoying to fight in Marvel Avengers Alliance’s PvP mode. That said, Rescue is a character that I feel doesn’t really fit in Marvel Heroes as a playable character at all. Rescue is a purely supportive character, which goes against Gazillion’s self-sufficient character philosophy in Marvel Heroes. She’s simply better suited as a team-up. We haven’t seen any pure support team-ups just yet, so she would be a perfect fit in this space. Shields, heals, maybe even a passive resurrect on a timer, these would all be great power options for Rescue.

And lastly Art has been released for Rogue, and she's (sort of) available for presale as part of a 'Bring on The Villains' Pack. Ditto Venom, Magneto, Juggernaut, and Star-Lord.

Hopefully this is an indication of how close to release she is, since all the other characters in that pack more or less have 'announced' release dates.

CYCLOPS

This image has been resized to fit in the page. Click to enlarge.
SPIDER-MAN

06/23 "We have official approval to do Peter Parker's daughter as an enhanced costume"
Spidey 2099 is most likely an enhanced costume.

GHOST RIDER

06/01/14 Alejandra Blade: She still needs some VFX work since her "hair" is completely unique. As it turns out, Ghost Rider's head is most complicated than it seems (hence how it reacts to how fast you're moving!) I will check with the art team this week to see how she's looking.
Phantom Rider - No current plans since his powers are so incredibly different from Ghost Rider.
JUGGERNAUT

Fear Itself coming but not at launch.
X-23

3 Costumes currently.
AGENT COULSON

If made playable might get a Maria Hill enhanced costume.

DUAL SPEC

06/12 Doomsaw "We have dual spec coming sometime in the next 8 weeks are so. Are current plan is to offer everyone a free second spec that they can use for PVP or anything else (raiding, solo, groups, different builds, etc). Currently the UI for it is being designed, then we'll get the back end server systems set up for it and put it on test center. It will probably launch at both raids and pvp come out of beta in 8-10 weeks."

This image has been resized to fit in the page. Click to enlarge.

PVP

Lots of things are coming for PVP this Summer including a more robust PVP system with ladders, Raid Sized zones, seasons and voice announcements. They will be slowly increasing the rewards as they get get closer to launch along with other quality of life improvements. There are not specific plans for PVP gear sets beyond PVP rings. Rings will get a full design review before PVP is out of beta and you will be able to exchange them.

RAIDS

Raids FAQ - https://forums.marvelheroes.com/discussion/78170/official-marvel-heroes-raids-faq#latest
The Resolution of Loki as a hero will be coming with the release of Surtur. A "Gear Advancement System" will be coming. Raid gear will be the best in game and the final loot drops will be added after the raid is out of Beta. Slots that never had you uniques will finally have uniques and there will be exclusive boss drops. There will be an alt system to getting raid gear like in WOW. 1 more raid is scheduled for this year.

This image has been resized to fit in the page. Click to enlarge.

ACHIEVEMENTS

06/24 "We are still adding more achievements every day and have a list of about 10 more we want to add before test center. Likely they will start testing next week or so and ship mid July.."
06/27 Achievements will launch at end of July and are in the internal testing rounds.
All achievements will have points and some unique rewards. Achievement Titles are highly likely.

OMEGA SYSTEM

Omega System FAQ
https://forums.marvelheroes.com/discussion/98120/omega-system-faq-in-progress/p1
The remaining 6 locked sections are will be unlocked through in-game events throughout the year. (Their name hints as to which events unlock them). They may coincide with new character releases.

ZONES AND MODES

BROOKLYN PATROL ZONE

"We're painfully aware of the performance issues in Midtown. The new Brooklyn Patrol version is a test case for certain new tech that we are hopeful will greatly help this. If that proves out, we will retrofit Midtown to take advantage of said new tech as well. It's very non-trivial on the development side of this, so despite the definite need for this we are proceeding carefully so as to avoid even worse explosive side effects."
ONE SHOTS

They have plans for several new One Shots each year. Some could be stories that can be considered side chapters that involve alternative dimensions, some of them are based on time travel and some are explorations of new zones. They will have unique rewards and achievements in the achievement system. There are numerous "What If" one shots coming and Daredevil as the leader of the hand ninjas in the Shadowland will be in one of the next 3 One Shots added.
BRONX ZOO(Full Zone)

06/25 "Lizards coming soon"
08/11/13 - Doomsaw: "I believe Doctor Curt Conners and Doctor Calvin Zabo are investigating and will report back with their findings once their investigation is completed. I believe there is a brief glimpse of the aquarium section of the zoo in my Marvel panel video tomorrow at ComicCon."
05/09 Doomsaw: "Bronx Zoo is going to be added to an early chapter of the story (explaining what Lizard is doing after his escape from the Raft). The environment is completely done (and looks really cool), but Lizard and another enemy still need VFX and AI work and then it will be launched. I would guess by end of Summer, maybe a little earlier."
They are waiting on the final boss to be finished along with some zoo animals. As soon as they are done, it will be added to Chapter 2, I believe. Probably by end of summer.
The Bronx Zoo maybe and a terminal and there may also be 2 versions. Kraven and Lizard will be 2 of the bosses.

This image has been resized to fit in the page. Click to enlarge.
06/20 - What is after the Bronx Zoo? Doomsaw hinted: "A mystery to solve. And then something Red."
ENDLESS DUNGEONS

Last time I heard it was 30% done and is expected to launch in 90 to 100 days or so. They are group or solo "dungeons" with the element of randomness. There will be 5 "tilesets" at launch, with more planned on a regular basis. There are currently 5 dungeons so far with 5 levels each. There are many things still under debate including how you enter them to if there will be modes you can win. It sounds like there may be a random dungeon generator every time you go into another area.

HARDCORE MODE

Currently in discussion. Will not be in the near future.

Marvel Heroes' super first year

Super-hero, Patches, Free-to-Play, Marvel Heroes, Anniversaries
1

In a game focused on super heroes with super powers facing super villains, you wouldn't expect a birthday bash to be just ordinary, would you? Of course not; it should be super! Gazillion agreed: Marvel Heroes just wrapped up its mega month-long first anniversary celebration this past weekend. From multiple buy-one-get-one-free offers to plentiful buffs and boosts to 365 birthday gifts for each player, the event was filled with festivities fit to bear the "super" moniker.

The celebration itself capped off a year of growth and expansion for the action RPG; the Marvel Heroes of today is not the Marvel Heroes that players logged into back in June of 2013. Even before the big release of Marvel Heroes 2015, which kicked off the anniversary festivities on June 4th, the game had already evolved quite a bit. How has it changed over the last 12 months? Let's take a hop, skip, and super leap down memory lane for a look. Continue Reading

Parts of the Event extended

Taken directly from the thread here: Hello everyone,
Quick announcements:

 • We will be extending the Summer BBQ event to extend through the 4th of July Weekend.
 • We will be extending the Soccer event to extend throughout the World Cup. (Congrats to all the teams that are doing well, for people who follow the tournament in Brazil, and good job to Germany for their overtime goal tonight!).
 • A reminder to have your friends, family, life-model decoys to finish the Stan Lee quest if they haven't yet.
 • We have a fairly small patch this week, focused on a few bugs fixes and such. We are already working hard on the patches later in the month with Login Rewards, Achievements, Raids out of beta, Mr. Fantastic, Star-Lord and so on.
Have a great week and we'll check in daily.

Michael Bitton : Lightning Strikes Twice with Storm

Gazillion has steadily undertaken the task of reviewing and reworking each and every hero in Marvel Heroes over the past year, with priority given to the starter characters players choose from when entering the game. This massive slate of reviews is nearing completion and the latest review to hit was for everyone’s favorite weather witch: Storm.

When Marvel Heroes originally released, characters featured a power progression from levels 1-30, with an ultimate power earned at the end of said progression. Months later, Gazillion began releasing new characters with power progression up to level 52, with roughly five additional powers per character earned along the way, including a new Signature ability (earned at level 30) and the character’s ultimate acquired at 52.
Since Storm was one of the game’s launch characters, she’s only had a power progression from 1-30 up until this point, but still remained a fairly interesting and viable character nonetheless. Even prior to her rework, Storm had a full suite of visually impressive powers at her disposal, and aside from being squishy, could clear packs of mobs better than most. The character did lack a reliable boss shredder, but her largest flaw was probably her kit’s focus being on a single ability: Thundering Maelstrom. If geared properly, Storm players could basically fly around the map zapping everything while holding just a single button. Thundering Maelstrom was visually impressive to be sure, but like anything else, it got old, and there wasn’t a whole lot of depth or nuance to her gameplay pattern.

With Storm’s level 52 review, Gazillion has maintained the power in Thundering Maelstrom, but they have also given the character a whole lot more options, including a viable wind tree for players who prefer conjuring tornadoes to lightning storms. A new boss shredder in Electrocute does wonders for fighting bosses, though channeling this ability can put you at risk of dying. It looks too cool not to use, even if I do put myself at risk. Imagine Emperor Palpatine frying someone with force lightning and you’ve basically got Electrocute. Microburst, a new single target wind power, is a bit underwhelming as an alternative, but I could see it working with some numbers tweaks.
Storm’s new Signature ability conjures up a powerful Typhoon. It does some impressive damage, provided enemies stay within the radius. Venom isn’t much of a fan though and will often swing right out, much to my frustration. An irresistible slow would probably help a bit here. Sudden Tornadoes, a new power that can conjure up roaming tornadoes to create havoc on the battlefield, is awesome once you’ve got all five going, but it can be a real chore casting the ability five times every 10 seconds or so just to keep these things going. Common feedback, and I would be inclined to agree, suggests that Gazillion change the power so Storm players summon all five tornadoes at once.
The retooled tempest powers, toggled abilities that provide various effects, are mostly a welcome change. I do feel that Arcing Tempest, Storm’s lightning themed toggle, is a bit underwhelming due to the erratic damage it deals, and could certainly be spruced up a bit. Freezing Tempest is probably my favorite due to its interaction with Storm’s new crowd control breaker, Storm Surge. With Freezing Tempest active, Storm players can activate Storm Surge to pulse out a massive irresistible stun. At high ranks, this can stun a pack of mobs for long enough to dispatch them completely and even lock up a boss for a little while. Going this route will lock you out of some consistent projectile protection offered by her wind toggle, but I think it’s probably worth it.
[YT]3N2JhIrHB_4[/YT]
Aside from all the new gameplay additions, Storm’s VFX and SFX have also been improved across the board. Some have complained about the appearance of Storm’s wind powers, but they look fine to me given the VFX soup that Marvel Heroes tends to end up being, especially while playing Storm. If the wind powers looked proper you probably wouldn’t be able to see most of the stuff going on in the game. My favorite addition to Storm’s aesthetics, aside from the aforementioned Electrocute, is the rolling thunder sound added to Thundering Maelstrom. Yes, TM actually thunders now. Woot!

Marvel Heroes launched last year in a decidedly less than superheroic state. The game shared many qualities found in the various ARPGs that have come onto the scene since Gazillion CEO David Brevik essentially created the point-and-click ARPG genre with Diablo in 1996. What really set the game apart from its peers was its unique blend of MMO and ARPG elements. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough. Gazillion Entertainment, the developer of Marvel Heroes, did a decent job blending these elements in the game’s initial release last year, but it was the rest of the game that simply came out undercooked.
Frankly, Marvel Heroes wasn’t a great game when we first reviewed it, but like all MMOs, Marvel Heroes is a living product and Gazillion has seemingly been burning the candle at both ends over the past year to make Marvel Heroes the game everyone hoped it would be. Did they succeed? Read on for our re-review to find out!

AESTHETICS - 8
Marvel Heroes likely won’t win any awards for having the highest fidelity graphics one can find on the market in 2014, but the developers have more than made up for the somewhat dated look with an intense attention to detail. Characters in Marvel Heroes really come to life with an impressive array of power animations and visual effects. You’ll also find little details like the fact Johnny Storm’s passive flame effect changes in intensity depending on how much Spirit (mana) he has left.
Not only do the characters look great, but most sound the part, too. Spiderman’s always cracking wise, Torch is as cocky as you would imagine, and Sue Storm is right there to scold Johnny just as she always has. That last bit really sells the experience of playing a game set in the Marvel universe, too. The characters all interact with each other and even with the game’s various major villains. Hearing these can get a little grating at times depending on the character, but discovering all the little interactions is a delight more often than not.
The environments and enemies in Marvel Heroes are similarly detailed, but the flip side is that there is a dearth of both. You’ll be fighting mostly the same enemies and bosses, even in different forms of content, and while there is some variety in the game’s environments, it wouldn’t hurt to have some more available.

GAMEPLAY – 8.5
If there’s one area that Marvel Heroes has improved on in leaps and bounds over the past year it’s in its gameplay. Ever since Gazillion picked up Jeff ‘Doomsaw’ Donais last summer, the team has had a renewed focus on really tightening up and improving the game; and it shows. I could sit here and get into all the little details, but the basic problems with Marvel Heroes’ gameplay at launch were in the game’s various playable heroes’ kits and in the game’s item hunt. Fortunately, Gazillion has improved both areas. For one, the team has gone through the game’s constantly growing roster and has almost fully reworked the characters that needed it, by adding new powers to their kits, among other things. The vast majority of these reviews have resulted in significant improvements for characters, making them much more fun to play and giving players additional options in terms of builds. Gazillion has also revamped a number of the game’s behind-the-scenes systems like defense, damage, and other tidbits to make the simple act of playing more fun. If you haven’t played since before these changes went in or you just haven’t played the game at all, it may be harder to notice, but the game is a good deal less spiky in terms of damage and characters across the roster are more consistent both in terms of the amount of damage they can take and dish out.
There are tons of new items and item types to hunt as well: Legendary items allow you to select from a variety of items with a linear progression of effects that are unlocked as you earn experience with the item equipped. Team Insignias offer players an item slot with team utility. Runewords are a throwback to Diablo II and allow you to further customize your character in interesting ways, and so on. Using Runewords as an example, the River of the Soul Runeword enables many characters to run builds without basic attacks due to its powerful spirit management effect. It’s a simple effect with significant impact.

On the content side, Marvel Heroes has added multiple new difficulty modes for the game’s story, new Terminals (formalized boss runs), a patrol zone for players to run to their hearts content, endless survival in X-Defense, and more recently, Raids. There’s a lot to do in Marvel Heroes, even at level cap, and even I haven’t done it all. Raids are the one area I haven’t been able to tackle just yet, but from what I understand, they offer players a truly difficult form of content to run once they’ve geared their characters properly, and Gazillion promises even better item rewards coming from this system.
Like any ARPG, progression comes primarily from the item hunt, but Marvel Heroes goes a step further with a new alternate advancement system called the Omega System. This is an account wide system that is a mix of EverQuest Alternate Advancement and Diablo III Paragon levels. Simply put, you earn experience towards the Omega System whenever you earn any sort of experience and you don’t need to be playing a level capped character to do it. Whenever you ‘level up’ your Omega experience bar you earn an Omega point and these points can be spent in the Omega system to unlock a variety of powerful effects for your character. Points earned are available to all characters just like Diablo III’s Paragon system, which is a definite plus.
The one caveat is that the Omega system feels almost needlessly complicated in the options available. There are just so many possibilities and combined with the time to earn points, the costs of certain nodes, and a UI that is a bit lacking in terms of providing adequate information, it can all be a bit overwhelming. It’s nice to be constantly working towards progression for my characters, but Gazillion could do more to clean up the system and make options easier to understand and plan for.
