New Feature for New Players - Test All Starting Heroes

Hey guys,
In the next big patch (Magneto patch in early December), we're trying a new thing that allows new players to mess around and test all the heroes on the starting screen until level 10. At that point they get to pick any hero they want to make their "main", but they keep the progress they made on the rest of the heroes.
So, if you happen to not have some of the starting heroes, you will actually be able to play them up to level 10.
We're going to put this into test center fairly soon.

Is it possible for Marvel Heroes 2015 to drown players in loot explosions? Massively's MJ thinks it is! But that's not a bad thing -- unless you happen to be MJ's inventory space, that is. Marvel Heroes' newest game mode, Industry City Patrol, adds even more opportunities for fast-paced action and equally fast loot collecting; the timed challenges keep you on your toes while the bosses drop plenty of goodies. And if that's not enough, the Midtown Madness and Cosmic Chaos events are in full swing as well. Do you think MJ can clear space and take in all the prizes? Join us us live at 9:00 p.m. for a romp through Industry City while MJ fights the ultimate villain: a full bag.

Marvel Heroes : The Heart of a Superhero Game is Being One

Posted Nov 25, 2014

While not every game system or design feature directly serves this principle, at the end of the day the Marvel Heroes design team's goal is for a player to feel like a superhero. This ambition was a core part of the development of our earlier Midtown Patrol game mode, and is just as much in evidence with the release of our latest patrol mode set in the Brooklyn district of Industry City.
Read more of our exclusive developer diary, Marvel Heroes 2015: The Heart of a Superhero Game is Being One.
In our earlier game mode of Midtown Patrol, the idea was to recreate that classic sensation of a hero on patrol, moving through a crime-ridden city to challenge menaces that unpowered police were ill-equipped to handle. Saving civilians in distress, fighting back supervillain teams such as the infamous Brotherhood of Mutants, and even stopping bank robberies were all key pieces of, well, making a superhero feel like a hero.
For Industry City Patrol, we didn't just want to replicate Midtown or make it obsolete. Rather, the goal was to take this core idea of giving players the space to feel like a classic superhero and to give it a new spin.
IndustryCity.png

Despite the chaos of supervillains and alien menaces, in Midtown heroes can (and often do) operate more or less independently dealing with fairly discrete threats such as a mugging, an ambush by A.I.M., or a team of supervillains. In Industry City we wanted to cultivate the feeling of the superhero team in a similar situation - but with a greater feeling or urgency and a deadlier sense of threat.
As a patrol zone like Midtown, Industry City is a continuous zone, meaning that a player can choose to stay in the zone for as long (or as short) as they'd like. Unlike Midtown, however, Industry City's threats are not a disconnected tapestry of unrelated crimes but a sequenced set of events that affect and influence the entire map.
For example, in the event "The Clone Saga" the hero is first alerted to the bizarre appearance of multiple Spider-Men lending their hand to erratic vigilante behavior - stopping crimes, but also innocent bystanders in the process. With several of these errant Spider-Men appearing across the zone, heroes need to split up to deal with them.
Once this immediate threat has been dealt with however, a greater threat appears in the form of a clone of Superior Spiderman and an army of Scarlet Spidermen. Now, the players must band together and fight this concentrated threat as a group.
Similarly, in the event "Cult of the Eye", the action begins with reports of mysterious black-robed cultists kidnapping innocent civilians. Upon thwarting the kidnapping, events move on, revealing the kidnappings to have been orchestrated by the Serpent-Men attempting to procure sacrifices to summon the Mindless Titan. The players attempt to stop the sacrifices, and in the process witness the unleashing of the mighty Mindless Titan.
Rewards, as well, had to be changed to match this style of gameplay. Whereas in Midtown the action is fierce and unrelenting with predictable, punctuated appearances of supervillains, in the Industry City Patrol the gameplay progresses in stages, meaning that we couldn't just rely on dropping rewards off of individual supervillains. So, in addition to incidental rewards from defeating supervillains, players also receive a reward box to encourage players to participate in all of the various phases leading up to the final event.
Industrycity2.jpg

Failure, as well, was never really a danger in Midtown, but it most definitely is in the new Industry City Patrol. As events can often be failed, it has also provided us the opportunity to scale up the threat - and the rewards - more than we were able to do in a game mode like the Midtown Patrol.
Industry City Patrol thus represents an evolution of our other game modes - not just Midtown Patrol, but also of our escalating defense modes such as X-Defense and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Holo-Simulator. Industry City is, as well, as much a child of our thinking on raids and bringing a similar kind of collaborative playstyle to a venue that is more accessible to the average player, while at the same time providing a rewarded challenge to experienced players when they might have just twenty minutes or half an hour to spare.
As we continue to refine and develop Industry City, we're also going to be keeping an eye onto future game modes and possible future patrols, learning lessons from our experiences with these and our other game modes, but also continuing to evolve and present new challenges and new playstyles for our players to face.

I actually spent $25 on this game this weekend. Bought 4 characters (Jean, Ms. Marvel, Cable and Psylocke) but unfortunately got 2 Moon Knights back, another Ms. Marvel and Dr. Strange. Ugh! 2 characters I have no interest in and 2 duplicates. I bought a costume for Cable with my remaining funds and got one for Ghost Rider. All in all, my BOGO gamble was a bust

Marvel Heroes : Magneto to be Second Playable Villain

Posted Dec 06, 2014

Magneto being the owner of arguably, one of the coolest superpowers ever, it's no surprise MH 2015 is adding him to its villainous roster. As the game's 41st playable character, he'll add not only his ahem...magnetism, but the voice of James Arnold Taylor, known for portraying Ratchet, of Ratchet and Clank fame, and Tidus from Final Fantasy X.
Developer Gazillion certainly seems excited about Magneto's entrance; Ryan Collins, Creative Designer and Community Manager says:
“Magneto feels amazing and has some of the most intense VFXs in the game. Players will see debris float around him and build up as he defeats enemies and destroys environmental objects. In turn, debris becomes a secondary resource that Magneto can use on a variety of powers, including a toggle that automatically fires shrapnel at the nearest enemy. My favorite part to use is Magneto’s Ultimate where he crushes his enemies with three Sentinels and creates a whirlwind of destruction from their parts.”
Magneto will be available as an Eternity Splinter unlock or as a real-money ($17.99) purchase. The Magneto Bundle comes with:
Magneto Hero
2 Costumes (Magneto Marvel NOW! White Costume (Default), Magneto Classic Costume)
Magneto Hero S.T.A.S.H.
6x Fortune Cards (One each of Mark 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6)
1 Retcon Device
For more information about Marvel Heroes 2015 and the addition of Magneto, check out the MH 2015 news page. For a peek at the new Magneto costumes, watch the video below.

Magneto now playable in Marvel Heroes

Marvel Heroes got a new playable character today, its 41st overall but just its second playable villain. That villain is Magneto, X-nemesis and master of magnetism who can "wield the power of electromagnetism to levitate and crush enemies with debris, cars, and even Sentinels with his ultimate power."

Renowned voice actor James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ratchet, Final Fantasy X's Tidus) is the man behind the mask, and Gazillion creative designer Ryan Collins says that Magneto boats "some of the most intense visual effects in the game."

can someone explain to me what just happened? I just logged into the game and I have Hawkeye, Rocket Raccoon, Black Widow, Captain America, Human Torch, Colossus, Luke Cage and Punisher unlocked but I never purchased them. Did they just randomly give a bunch of heroes for free that I missed?

Ok, I just checked this myself. I pretty much had all those characters, except for Human Torch. Now I have him too. Maybe they decided to give away all starter characters? Because I think that's the exact roster you can choose, when you start the game for the first time.

*Edit*

Checked the store page. Doesn't say that I own Human Torch. So either this is just for a limited duration, so we can play and try more characters, or it's a bug.

weird. I see that they are all 1/10 so it looks like they are capped with an option to purchase for uncapping.

BTW, how did you buy the characters? Individually or in one of those mega packs? Do you still play?

I got most of them either through random Hero Boxes bought with Splinters, or from BOGO sales when you got a random box for every purchase of a Hero. But for the Guardians of the Galaxy I actually bought the whole Team pack. I must have at least 2/3 of the roster unlocked by now.

Haven't played in a while, since I'm occupied with Final Fantasy XIV and Dragon Age Inquisition. But I might jump back in soon, when they release X-23. I think I will actually buy her Pre-order pack.

Are you finding it easy to get splinters? I finally got enough (400) to buy the heroes I would have wanted to get before I went and purchased. They don't seem to drop that often and when they do its only 1, which would take forever. Luckily you occasionally get a pack of 10 as a login bonus

Sometimes, when I don't have a lot to do, I farm them. I think you should get a Splinter every 5-6 minutes guaranteed. So what I do, is to play long enough until a Splinter drops, alt+tab out, and set a timer that goes off after 5-6 minutes. When the timer goes off, I go back in, kill a bunch of mobs until a Splinter drops again, and then repeat the process. And while I wait, I catch up on my TV shows.

Optimally, I can get 8-10 Splinters an hour. More if I'm lucky and get the rare 2, 5 or 10 Splinter drops.

Cool, never knew that. I thought it was pure random. Do you have Nightcrawler, Gambit or Rogue? I'm thinking one of them will be the next character I get whenever I'm ready. Also do you have any team ups? I'm thinking of adding Havok. Finally how exactly do you get costumes in this for free? I can't believe they cost as much if not more than the actual heroes

Got Nightcrawler and Rogue. Nightcrawler is pure fun. His Teleportation is awesome. As for Team-ups, I got Drax, Gamora, Groot, Domino, Spider-Man and Magik.

Costumes sadly cannot be acquired for free. They are one of the few things in the game, that you have to pay actual money for. Whenever I buy a costume, I wait for a sale. When they are like 25-50% off, or when there's a BOGO Sale. You buy 1 costume, and then get a random costume for free. If the random costume doesn't happen to be something I like, I use it for random costume crafting. I'm actually not too unlucky when it comes to crafting random costumes. I got 4 Enhanced ones out of it. Female Loki, Female Panther, Female Hawkeye (I'm lucky with the ladies :funny:) and Horseman Gambit.

Massively Interview: Marvel Heroes' Magneto makes his mark

Heroes are all well and good, but there is plenty of fan love for the villains. There's just something about those bad boys and girls redeeming themselves that makes those characters so interesting. Gazillion knows this and has responded by releasing Magneto, the latest of the playable villains, to the Marvel Heroes lineup. Fans of Professor Xavier's long-time nemesis/friend can now jump in and command the forces of magnetism to defeat foes and destroy the environment. We chatted with Creative Designer and Community Manager Ryan Collins about this latest addition. We even gleaned a few snippets about the upcoming Axis One-Shots and got a release time-frame for the Spider Girl enhanced costume.

For those who want to see Magneto in action, we've also included his official trailer. You can also tune in to Massively TV on Monday, December 8th, at 9:00 p.m. EST to watch him live. Continue Reading

It's still random though. You need 3 costumes you don't need anymore, and a unstable molecule. And at least 200,000 credits I think. So, yeah, I guess there's a way to get them for "free".

I used the default costumes that came with all my characters, only the ones I knew I wouldn't play too often, and used them to craft new ones.

There's also a bit of a problem with it currently too

Random Costume Recipe 12...67

of which the Dev's have still to a address to those of us helping
them test& find these things . yeah you can do that all the way Nathan stated. but maybe wait for them to state that it's fully fixed Issue wise.

Ok Ryol
nir just did it today

You need 3 costumes (which you have to buy) in order to get one random? Yikes, that sounds terrible

what the designer said up top too havok about the starter heroes

Well, you don't really need to buy the costumes. Every character you unlock, comes with a default costume. I used those to craft random costumes. And you could basically get those default costumes back again, by getting a character to level 60, and Prestige him so you start again from level 1. I only did it once so far, because I lacked 1 costume and had Spidey already at lvl 60.
