What If Marvel's What If...? - General Discussion

Too dark? How? I remember the 90s animated series having an episode where Peter turns into a spider. I think even the X-Men came out during that story arc. So I call BS on that. Bunch of prudes

I think the writer is referring to What If v2 #88, which was the 2nd issue after editorial decided they wanted to shift gears and make the What If stories darker and more serious. I read that issue when it came out (I was 8 at the time) and yea it was pretty disturbing lol. It was way darker than the Man-Spider stuff in TAS, which was pretty tame in comparison.

Such a terrible way to crap on a beloved hero

Just fyi that first video isn't real. Screen Culture posts fan-made videos posing as official commercials. They are kinda click baity. I first noticed them doing this during Wandavision.

Edit- apparently they actually didn't edit anything in this one lol. So nvm on this specific one lol

I'm most curious about the Marvel Zombies episode, I wonder if they'll retain their consciousness - albeit with hunger for brains or if they'll just be mindless Zombies.

I don't get this... Like - I don't feel like people would have an issue with "What If Tony Stark Were A Villain?" We've gotten so many Fallen Superman stories. What's the matter with a villainous Steve?

‘What If:’ Team Recalls Last Call with Chadwick Boseman – The Hollywood Reporter

“[Chadwick] really enjoyed the idea of being able to play this slightly different version of T’Challa,” Andrews tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The events are so extremely different, but the galaxy doesn’t change T’Challa; T’Challa changes the galaxy. There are a few more times where he pops up briefly in a couple other episodes, so we were able to record with him a little bit during the pandemic. Those records were over Zoom calls, and in the last record, when we were done, I, selfishly, was able to tell him how much I personally thought of him… He touched his heart and he was very thankful, but we had no idea he was going through what he was going through.”

Bradley also reflects on her own memories of working with Boseman, who died of colon cancer in August 2020.

“I have the sad honor of writing some of his last lines in the MCU. I obviously did not know that when I was writing them,” Bradley recalls. “Chadwick Boseman understood the importance of Black Panther. He understood how important it is that young people see a Black man standing shoulder to shoulder with Captain America and Thor Odinson, so that they know a Black man saves the world just the same as anyone else. He came in to record, and I joked that he didn’t bring his A-game; he brought every damn sport there is. He made sure that this was going to be the episode that shined, but we did not realize why. And the world is a little sadder for it. “

I wouldn't be surprised if we see Hydra Cap in Mulltiverse of Madness.

The first episode was great and a unique homage to both the MCU and the inspired comics. Events played out differently of course but it appears that Captain Carter inspired a new branch of the multiverse.

I was pleasantly surprised by animation style it actually made it Cinematic but with a twist.

I am so happy my dub has the actor who voices Chris Evans. :applaud
Decent start, the animation style works in action sequences very well.

The animation style turned out to be great! Loved the episode, the story was pretty dope and I’m interested to see what thy do with Capt. Carter next.

the art style was way more cinematic than I thought, some of the shots looked just like the McU

I am on the other side guys. I was pretty underwhelmed by the episode. I posted more in depth in the episode thread, but the word of the day is RUSHED! Waaaaaaaaay too rushed. I would have preferred breaking this into maybe a 2 part episode instead of how they did it.

mostly, I was joking to take a potshot at Secret Empire

But also tbh, I dont love alternate universe evil hero stories. The core of these characters that we love and connect with is their nobility and heroism and general goodness, especially someone like Cap. Stark is an ego-driven d*ck a lot of the time so him breaking bad isnt that far-fetched, but I still hated “Axis” where they made him full on doosh.

Evil Superman works somewhat because 1) he has god tier powers making him a scary ass bad guy and 2) many writers fail to make him an interesting character, so making him evil gives him more depth

I think having Evil Steve could work in say Captain America 4. Having Sam getting overshadowed by a seemingly returning Steve who turns out to be an evil version of the man who passed the mantle to him could be very good. But as a What If episode....I would advise not doing it.
