Mass Effect 3 - - - - - Part 14

Was it as annoying as the final battle on Earth in the core game? Because THAT was annoying.

It maybe annoying, but it wasn't hard, which was my problem with the combat in Omega DLC.

Don't get me wrong, i LOVE that DLC because it puts the focus on Aria which is my fav character in ME universe, but i'm not looking forward to playing it again because i was struggling big time during the combat there...especially the last bit.

I did not find Omega or Citadel that challenging, but the new mechs in Omega was pretty hard to kill though. But for me the best thing about Citadel is all the banter between your squadmates during combat.

Hard and annoying? I thought it was fairly easy.

I didnt find Omega hard at all and I played it on Insanity. But, as I said before, the beginning of Citadel was stupidly hard on Insanity. I'm sure it'd be fine on normal though.

Heh..maybe i should just accept the fact that i'm just suck at these games:oldrazz:

I am guessing the majority of gamers for Mass Effect are male, so if so that would explain why MaleShep is the version most used, and why Ashley usually gets saved over Kaiden. It's a total wish fulfillment thing, where they get to be the hero saving the galaxy and getting all the girls. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of the female gamers playing Mass Effect play as the FemShep for that same reason (to be a badass female), but their numbers are just smaller compared to the amount of men that play the series.

I liked Kaiden better so Ashley got to stay and get blown up. She is a cranky ***** so I saved my buddy.

Most people who play any of the big games are male. :woot: I think the above is also to do with the default choice being manShep. Most people don't switch from default & if Femshep was default she'd have got a lot more action. And Kaidan is a bit boring...if it had been Garrus, Thane or Mordin people might have saved the male character.

All that tells me really is the amount of effort the writers put into characters. where some characters like KAIDEN was in the same boat as Coal train with gears of war and they turned it around for Coal in the third installment and made him cool to fans that wanted Coal dead. It's also why some writer like Bendis gets praise as marvel's super scribe. In reality he's not, he's just doing what others are too lazy to do and look at where it put him.

Cause he actually does some thing to make a character that isn't doing well become better, while other writers are just too lazy to do so and play with the usual faves that are usually marketed.

I'm saying this as an example, on what the true issue there is. and it's effort on the creators parts for these characters and actually wanting to do some thing to make cool or better or not and franchise as awhole better. otherwise he was still likeable but alot more could have been done with him. Kaiden did turn bad ass to save a fellow class mate in his past but the writers of Mass effect were too lazy to explore that with him in present. it's just a matter of effort and wanting to do so and that';s why I brought up coal train with this. and this has been shown alot with marvel characters as well and how you can tell a part the more talented writers from the ones that are too lazy and aren't doing much for the medium. any way I not expect many people to see this or agree but it a clear to see what the issue is there with charactrers like kaiden and coal train there in the I want them dead sense "cause I find them boring or I think they suck," Among fans.

Kaiden turned out be the better investment as he had more to do, interacted with more characters on the Nomandy, and an improved personality in general.

With Ashley, I felt they dropped the ball with her after ME1. I think Ash should have pulled a Garrus and quit the Alliance and did something on her own like Private Security or something. She was already being blacklisted by the Alliance, combine that with how both the Counsel and the Alliance swept Shep and the Reaper claims under the rug, it would have been an easy move for her. Removing the one scenes that showcases one of the more unique aspects of the character didn't help things either.

So I'm thinking of finally getting the Trilogy on PS3 so I can finally play the first ME and own ME3, but before I do that, what can I look to expect from playing the first game? I've heard it's very different from ME2 and ME3 so I'm kinda worried that I won't enjoy it as much.

If you enjoyed ME2/3 you should like 1. Primarily the three main issues with ME1 is that the combat is a lot clunkier, you need to deal with a cumbersome inventory menu and most of the uncharted world sidequest re-use the same 2-4 bases over and over.

None of that stuff is really a deal-breaker though and the critical path content is all still very good, but here just so you can get a rough idea:

Hope that helps.

I didn't even have much of an issue with the controls, played just fine. Even after I played ME2 and went back to ME1 again. But I did loath the menus. And the elevators. Those goddamned elevators.

Spidey has covered the main problematic differences. The planet surface exploring in the Mako I found to be a bit boring after a while. The gameplay is certainly clunkier but the game has a great story and a super villain & supporting characters. I think its a rite of passage & something that needs to be played to get the full ME experience.

Being able to take Shepard from the start of ME1 to the end of ME3 is an experience I'm glad to have been able to participate in on the PS3.

Thanks guys. These next few months are going to be quiet for me since I'm waiting on The Last of Us in June, so I'm looking for something to get me by until then. I really want to do a complete playthrough so I figure now is a good time to do so. I just always get a little concerned when I go back to an older game.

I just finished ME1 again; it's not as good as the other two, but I still think it's a great game. You just have to forgive for something because it's an older game. The clunky gameplay & some awkward animation are the two biggest offenders. Characters have these great talks, but their animations often don't match it.

Criticizing Mass Effect 1's animation specifically is kind of strange considering Bioware recycled a ton of animations from that first game in the sequels.

I only played multiplayer once and didn't like it, so I wouldn't be the right guy to take that kind of survey.

I loved the elevators. To this day, I'm still surprised people didn't like them. I always felt that listening to compelling characters talk to each other was infinitely more rewarding than looking at a loading screen for the same amount of time. Also, passed the time quicker.

Kaidan complained to much about his headaches and past....so I let him blow up on Vermire, Ashley was a ***** in Mass Effect 2, so I cheated on her with Miranda, Ashley continued being a ***** in Mass Effect 3....so I shot her :funny:

The elevator method would have been fine if there were enough dialogues for every elevator but generally speaking you'd take a lot more elevator trips than conversations were available which meant you just end up spending a lot of time looking at a silent lift. That and everyone always just staring forward and being rooted in the ground kind of rubbed me wrong. Maybe if they animated more and there had been a lot more conversations and a lot less lifts. I'm fine with when they do it in-mission though.

As it is the loading screens are animated now and the characters banter all the time - there's not really anything they do functionally that isn't done better at the moment short of trying to hide a load screen.

It was funny/cute that they lampshaded the whole thing one last time in Citadel but I'm glad we don't have to keep staring at that lift anymore:

Also, Bioware once tried to explain that the elevators were traveling hundreds of floors something. I guess that doesn't apply to the one in the Normandy?

Regardless, I never found the elevators to be a problem. At their very worst they're a minor nuisance.

i liked the elevators. the dialogue, radio announcements and 'elevator music' were fun. and game you a break to take a hit, take a shot or do whatever else :ninja:

I was watching the elevator scene with Javik and Vega and Javik was trying to sway him over to the dark side of the force :woot:
