so far so good, but something seems off to me about peters face for some reason

Yeah... His features were really skewed... I think I just totally messed it up because I was going so fast and doing it at that angle. I made some adjustments. It's still by no means perfect, but I think the new version is at least be an improvement on this version.

Looking great, I just think Peter needs to be a bit more miffed at having his mask stolen.

I opted for the idea that he was just exhausted with the whole situation so I was attempting less anger and more defeat in the face. Admittedly, anger/annoyance may have made the scenario read better.

Looking good, like the re-take on BC's figure.

Thanks... Her hair was positioned all wrong and when I started to try and fix it after a week away from it, I just thought, 'This needs to be scrapped.'

I tweaked Peter's face, some of the color of his suit, his hair, and added more lighting effects at and around his feet.

Also, I am near done with BC too!

The Spidey mask is untouched, but once that's done, I will pretty much just be tweaking color and shadows and then it will be done.

Well, I'm done with my new piece for round 1 of MrH7448's shh fantart battle.

The theme for round 1 is simply "Marvel", so I took the opportunity to use Spideyboy's request of Spider-man and Black Cat.

My idea was to do a Spidey-themed piece where Peter is exhausted trying to keep up with Black Cat who stole his mask...

i'd love to see a more distinct line of action arc for cat, but it looks awesome.

pete looks sleepy, he doesnt look exhausted. i dunno if he'd be straight up with his hands across his chest, he'd have his weight shifted on one leg, maybe a hand on his hip, or wiping sweat away.

love his costume, great detail!!

Yeah... I'm getting reactions all over the spectrum on Pete's look.
As for the phrase "more distinct line of action arc" I seriously don't know what that means, but I think its sounds like something I need to understand better. If you could elaborate, I'd appreciate it.

So I'm thinking a lot of us are just going to advance to round II of MrH's fanart battle, since it seems some people dropped out of round I.

With no guarantees of making it to round II, but a faced with several hours before 'Lost' starts, I decided to start a DC-themed piece, and should I make it to round II, all the better.

Given the broad theme, I decided to do something a little less straight forward than the Spider-man pic I just did.

This time, I'm using Robin, but I thought it might be fun to do an emo redesign of him...

My scan kinda lost some of the detailing, and I intend to add a lot more, but this give you an idea, I guess.

If you get a chance, check out the battle thread (linked at the top of my post). There's a lot of cool entries I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Thanks for the kind words about the spidey/cat pic.

As for robin, yes he will have a batarang (sp?) strapped to his bicep, as in the sketch... I intend to add a lot of details to flush it out. Another I already plan is an 'R' tattoo on his peck, where it traditionally appears on his costume (in the sketch as well)... Stuff that makes ties to the original costume design. For example, I'm thinking of how I will include the three yellow horizontal bars that appear on his chest in many versions of the costume.

Loving the emo robin. And as for Skins series 3 it's still really great, there is a really cute story with the twins, where one of them realises she's gay and falls in love with a girl called Naomi Campbell. LOL

Done with the soft shading pass.

I also tweaked the color overall to be a bit more red/orange...

Something I've been thinking about...

Yellow only appears on the inside of the hood, while it is a big color in the traditional robin costume. I could easily change the shirt to be red and yellow striped, but I kinda like it as is.

Should I change it? I just kinda keel like minimizing yellow is for the best, because it's a little bright for Emo, but I guess I weighting the trade-off between my instinct of what looks better and referencing the palette of Robin's costume.

Spent some time working on the background...

If you look, you can probably tell by the sketch I posted a while back, that I had not planed what was going on in the space to the right of Robin.

One thing I didn't want to do is another straight forward city scape with a bat signal.

I thought a foggy sunrise would be the LEAST obvious, given the Emo theme so I said, why not do that?

At this point, I think the background is done so I'll return focus to Robin and the wall.
