MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 1

I actually liked Liv Tyler as Betty, and although Will Hurt couldn't match Sam Elliot's Thunderbolt Ross I'd still like to see him return for continuities sake. I wouldn't be completely upset if Tim Blake Nelson was recast, I'd like someone less hyper for The Leader, perhaps William Fichtner could be a good choice? I also felt Ty Burrel made for an awful Leonard Samson.

Thoughts?
Almost the opposite. Tyler was unwatchable and proved her talentlessnes once again. If they ever make a sequel to TIH she is the only person that I want to be recast.

Saying it again, Michael Emerson for the Leader.

ahhh always read on this board but never joined until now!..

so a thought.. since the netflix series is gonna be in NYC.. are they gonna show the destruction or rebuilding of NYC after the battle of New york? since it is all in the same universe

They will probably make mention of it.

I hope they not only mention it but use it as a reason as to why Hell's Kitchen is the way it is. The modern Hell's Kitchen wouldn't work in the Daredevil universe, so unless they want to say that the MCU Hell's Kitchen developed differently and is still like the 70s and 80s, the battle of New York seems a valid reason why things could have gone down hill and crime could have risen.

I got a name of an actress who could use a career boost by being a part of the MCU:

Rosario Dawson

Why does the Marvel cinematic universe Hell's Kitchen have to be like the modern day Hell's Kitchen? Modern day New York was never attacked by chitauri(or was it?:cwink:).

yeah i agree.. well since there is city destroyed more villians have shown up etc etc like that. but they didnt mention how the NYC is in Iron man 3 Thor Dark World or Agents of Shield..

I love Rosario, but who would she play White Tiger?? Misty Knight??

Her career does need a boost though. Sure she's a fairly recognizable name, but her career should be a lot better than what it is currently.

Great idea, this.

That's a great choice.
Speaking of a boost she certainly gave me one with her performance in Trance, makes me which I could afford an 85 inch 8K tv

I'm going to keep picking Rosario Dawson in MCU until she's actually cast in an MCU film. It's not a good thing when her highest grossing film ever is Men in Black II.

So long as superhero movies keep up quality and don't rehash the same ideas and don't constantly reboot then it'll keep going on strong. I see no reason why the public at large would tire of the format the MCU has used as a model.

I'd understand that if the MCU hadn't learned from the mistakes of Sony and Fox how the bubble would burst because at some point people would get sick and tired of reboots to reboots or shoddily put together cash grabs.

But the MCU has created a brand, the MCU has created continuity, the MCU has created an entire cinematic world.

This can only get stronger with age, like the Bond movies but better because of the diversity of it all.

There's only been five Marvel reboots thus far:

  • Punisher in 2004 (as a reboot of The Punisher in 1989)
  • Punisher WarZone in 2008 (as a reboot of The Punisher in 2004)
  • The Incredible Hulk in 2008 (as a reboot to HULK in 2003)
  • Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011 (as a reboot to Captain America in 1990)
  • The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012 (as a reboot to Spider-Man in 2002)
Five reboots out of Thirty Five Marvel movies isn't something anyone would call constant rebooting.

The studios to do the most rebooting are a tie between Lionsgate and Marvel Studios.

This is why I'm loving Marvel's formula for the MCU - each movie and tv series proposed gives us different characters, different themes and tones and genres. They're comic book characters immersed in fantasy/period pieces/spy adventures/political thrillers/action comedy/space opera.

They're giving everyone different flavors and showing people that CBMs aren't all origin tales. They're mixing it up and giving us a grab bag of surprises.

Well so far it's only been Avengers characters getting movies, they've been quite different from each other in style and tone but are one set of characters. Guardians is the first to be set apart from the herd so to speak.

I'm really looking forward to a MCU that exists of groups in different corners.

I'd love it if Avengers was in one corner of the universe dealing with Global threats, Defenders in one corner dealing with street-level threats and Guardians and other Cosmic heroes in another corner dealing with galactic threats.

i feel like such a dumbass. there for a while, i had this unreasonable meh opinion towards Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, and Iron Man 2, I recently watched all three and can safely say that they're now some of my favorite movies of all time  Yes. even Iron Man 2. It's a great movie, and highly underrated. That last battle scene alone is enough to watch the movie

Can somebody explain me if Fox and Disney share ownership over the Inhumans? Because these characters debuted in a Fantastic Four comic and they were featured in a lot of FF stories.

I think Marvel/Disney has full rights to the Inhumans because I recall Kevin Feige talking about it as a possible Phase 3 movie.

you guys think anyone from the Captain america film will make an apperance to cross over into agents of S.H.I.E.L.D? or just make references? or cap himself will show? would be awwesome

Anyone interested in the long list of actress I have in mind for Monica Rambeau? I'm pretty certain it's similar to a lot of people.
