MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 1

I don't even think TWS is better than the original. I think both are equally great but for different reasons. The first oozed this great nostalgic atmosphere that I loved and the 2nd found it's own way with the political thriller angle and probably the best hand-to-hand action in any superhero film to date. I gave them both 9/10's.

I am not really a big fan of the first, it was okay, but certainly not up there with the best, I thought TWS was an improvement in every sense and was a great movie in general.

The first was average to me, but was a decent set-up for bigger and better things to come.

Well if you were someone who loved The Rocketeer then most likely
you loved Cap1 as well and for largely the same reasons. I fall squarely in that category.

I have no idea what they plan to do but I'd like to see those 2 come back. Not so much Nelson.

Well it's not like they're real busy these days. And yes the leader would be very easy to recast since he looks very different than you used to before he got his powers.

I'd like Marvel to somehow acknowledge this film and including these 2 would be a great way of doing so. I'm not sure how popular Liv was but I liked her and I'm sure Ross would be relevant. I think a Ruffalo Hulk film might happen some day, although not in Phase 3.

Anyone else want to see President Ellis more? I like the actor who played him(he was in Shawshank), and it just makes the whole universe seem more connected.

Needless to say I'm a huge MCU fan but I must say having just seen Guardians recently I am truly reinvigorated in my MCU passion. I can't wait for Phase 3 and the Infinity Gauntlet saga. They need to go REAL big for this one, and it seems like they are!

I was watching Avengers again and something caught my attention. When Loki says to Natasha "you lie and kill in the service of liers and killers", could this have been some kind of clue that maybe Loki knew about SHIELD being HYDRA?

Well to be fair, the idea of SHIELD being corrupt was planted in the MCU long before the reveal, with the reveal being the final nail in the coffin. A lot of "good" agents were always performing more grey-shaded activities from the beginning, so Loki was arguably right either way.

Intelligence agencies also just tend to lie and kill

"That man's playing Galaga!" :hehe:

I have some lurking to do in this thread to catch up with what's been discussed but just to point out, I'm a big Marvel fan, especially when it comes to film. I even made a similar thread over at The Trek BBS (my name is currently bigboojeg for Halloween, but it will be back to bbjeg after).

I hope William Sadler comes back.

Depends if they need to show the president at all. If they do then yeah, have Sadler come back.

Maybe Cap3 will be about Captain America getting elected for president. 2016 is an election year, after all.

Cool off, I'm just kidding...

Word. Not to mention that the idea for a Hydra-infested SHIELD in Cap 2 came well into the production on the Avengers, so the script would have already been written and that line would have already been delivered.

...
I guess, as a starter off, do people like this as a concept? Should this be a format for other comic movies to follow, continuity? ...

Yes and no. Though I greatly enjoy the continuity of the MCU, some movies do better as a stand alone movie. With that said, I wouldn't mind a Han Solo (Pre-Star Wars Episode IV) movie.

Any speculation as to how much interaction there will be between the Netflix series, AoS, Agent Carter and the movies?

I have a feeling, simular to how AoS hints the movies, and how the movies nod at the series (through Sitwell), the Netflix series will follow a similar joining.

I just don't want to see them recasting someone like RDJ and having everyone else in the Avengers pretend he's the same guy...

I like to think of it as reading one comic and then another drawn by a different artist (or the James Bond movies up to Brosnan or Batman movies up to Clooney), just different takes on the same character.

The fact we're going to potentially have so many heroes in the MCU by the time that Avengers 3 rolls around is just so exciting... Potentially:

Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Vision, Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, War Machine, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Deathlok... Oh, and Star Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket Racoon and Groot too!

And there's room for Wasp and any other possible heroes on that list too. Who'd have thought, say, 10 years ago we'd have an entire Marvel Universe on film?

That would be a Marvel to see, truly.

Welcome to the Hype!

Thanks.

That's exactly how I see it too. I have no problem with the Rhodey replacement for e.g. and like both versions. That said this will be like taking the best writer and artist off of Iron Man and going with someone new.

Oh & welcome!

That's possible. It would be like Loki to tease Widow like that, and he grew up with ODIN and Heimdall so it's very possible he could have known. Remember MCU Odin has a no-interference unless absolutely necessary policy.

I'd rather not have Iron Man 4 and Hulk 2 if it meant sacrificing Black Panther and Carol Danvers.

I believe both will happen, but one probably won't happen until after Avengers 3. If I had to bet on which one of the two would be made before Avengers 3, I'd have to pick Carol.

G'day,

If the rumors that Avengers 3 will be a split movie ( part 1 and a part 2) are true then a Carol movie would make sense as Captain Marvel would be the ideal person to recruit the GOTG to join the Avengers for part 2

if Ironman 4 actually happens with Robert, I pray it happens after Avengers 3.
I need Black Panther before the third team movie

Something tells me we won't get Black Panther until Phase 4

Just a gut feeling

So Phase 2 we should have Ant Man, Cap 3 & Dr Strange with 2 spots open. Thor 3/Hulk 2/Ms Marvel/Black Panther. What are the other possible contenders?

Then Carol is a must. Kevin Feige is going to have a lot of explaining to do if Marvel completes their announced schedule and not a single film is led by a woman or a Person of color.
