MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 3

I'm just worried about Ant-Man. I like the character and I'll definitely see the movie but I'm not sure if the general audience will be as interested.

I don't think you have to worry. The Marvel brand will virtually guarantee it makes a profit (which will be good enough for Disney).

Honestly, at some point, I could see myself (and maybe the general audience) getting tired of trying to keep up with the entire MCU. I mean, with all the shows and movies slated to come out, there is no way I have the time to watch every single thing. It just seems that it will be too expansive. I really don't know what they are going to do after Ifinity War 2. Reboot the entire thing?

After Infinity War they'll focus on the new actors and New Avenger line up. Old characters like
Thor
Tony Stark

Steve Rogers
Black Widow
Hawkeye
and Hulk

Will be given a rest in favor of newer characters.

Vision
Scarlet Witch
Quicksilver
Captain Marvel
Black Panther
Doctor Strange
Spider-Man
Winter Soldier

Characters like Falcon and War Machine may stay around too even if recasted. The Inhumans and Guardians will also remain. But the new Avengers team will likely consist of

Vison
Captain America(Bucky)
Black Panther
Scarlet Witch
Quicksilver
Captain Marvel
Spider-Man

A Brand New Seven Avengers. We'll probably get some Solo Movies for the heroes in the future as well. Especially Spider-Man. When Spider-Man's not available I can see Falcon taking his place if he isn't dead. Still thik Doctor Strange is FAR too powerful to join the Avengers though. He will also be one having Solo Movies.

I agree...if you put Marvel Studios in front of it the GA is pretty much "Oh, well I loved the other Marvel movies so this one should be good too"

At least that's the general impression i've gotten from people.

Looks like they're considering animated tie-ins for the MCU

http://mcuexchange.com/marvel-animation-considering-mcu-tie-ins/

It'd be cool if they did stories they don't have the resources/time to do on film like:

- A Thor story centuries ago
- More of Captain America during WWII
- The Human Torch
- Antman's adventures in the 80s
- Thor during the time between The Avengers and T:TDW where they were bringing balance back to the Nine Realms.
- Guardians of the Galaxy stories set between films.
- The Avengers as a team between CA:TWS and Age of Ultron

Maybe even introduce characters they don't have the film rights to.

The MCU is really expanding this year

- Back in time with Agent Carter

- Inhumans on AoS

- Street crime on Daredevil

- Global hunt for an evil robot in AoU

- MCU history and smaller character introduction with Ant-Man

- Superhero life on Jess Jones

Can't believe I get to see the rest (or majority of it) unfold within 9 months.

Cloak and Dagger would be a cool duo to start with in the cartoon MCU.

I was thinking this would be a good way to do more Hulk without a crazy budget. Maybe have Abomination and The Leader break free and Banner have to track them down.

I was in a lengthy back and forth with someone yesterday. We were talking about FF and I said I will see it but hope it bombs due to why they made the film. He said it's good Marvel doesn't have a monopoly and that it doesn't matter what studio the film is with because every studio even Marvel makes bad movies.

That last line is what started it because I said that Marvel hasn't even made a bad movie yet. Their worst movies are at the least just good. He said Iron Man 3 was trash, and that TIH, Iron Man 2 and First Avenger were bad. I said I've seen Ghost Rider 2, Age of Extinction and Green Lantern and those are actual bad films, I don't think Marvel has made anything that you can really categorize as bad. Am I being silly?

My friend is a known Nolanite so, just didn't think he'd criticize Iron Man 3 for script but has called Dark Knight Rises a masterpiece.

Well, Dark Knight Rises is anything but a masterpiece.

I don't think the MCU quality threshold is as high as is often regarded. They certainly have a handful of mediocre movies (but the casual audience don't seem to agree with me so I could be on my own here) but I'd say every film they've made so far has effort, love for the source material and a strong attempt to make a great film behind it, and because of that, they generally land somewhere in the 'good' range, even despite any flaws.

Like you, I could never call any of Marvel's releases 'bad' given what we've suffered through in the past.

Marvel worst movies can be categorized as "meh," whereas the other studios' worst movies can be classified with a confusion emoji...

HOWEVER, your friend is right to say that it's good that Marvel doesn't have a monopoly, and the reason for that is because not having all the characters at their disposal forces Marvel and Disney to be more creative with the lesser known ones that they do have, which in turn has allowed those characters to become stars. We probably wouldn't have gotten a kickass Guardians Of The Galaxy movie, or the Inhumans on Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. if it weren't for Fox owning the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

And by the way, I find it really disturbing that people are saying "I hope the Fantastic Four reboot sucks," or even going as far as already declaring that it sucks when it hasn't even come out yet, and therefore you have nothing to base your judgement around. I'll admit, when I heard Dr. Doom was gonna start out as a hacker, I joined the haters for a brief period... And then, I heard a brief summary of the plot with a few spoilers, and I thought to myself, "This film might actually surprise a lot of people, in a positive way." And as a Marvel Studios guy, that makes me want to see this movie (and the Deadpool movie) succeed, so it forces Marvel and Disney to continue to be creative with what they have.

So what if this cast is young?! So what if the Storm family is black with an adopted white girl?! So what if the film is a bit dark in its approach?! So what if this story takes place in its own universe that's separate from everything else?! If you think the movie is gonna suck simply for those reasons, then honestly, you're a whiny *****.

^ At this stage, we're waaaaaaaaay past the point of "simply for those reasons".

Your friend is one of those people that think that if a movie isn't insanely good that makes it automatically bad.

Iron Man, I feel is top tier. Thor and Cap, I'd put on the level of X-Men, First Class and BB.

You see to me they all(the non-MCU Marvel films) have at least one serious issue that pisses me off(Raimi's god-awful Steve Urkel-ish humor, Singer's heavy handed message mongering BS, all the decisions by committee of the latter Spidey-franchise, Blade's films being too much 'turn of the century' style over substance, etc.) that keeps them well below all of the MCU films as a whole. Batman Begins I'll agree is in the same quality range as the MCU films for me but then that's just 1 film in 7 tries that I even like(I hate all the other Batman films to varying degrees). I'd put the first 2 Chris Reeve Superman films in that same good-great range as well and that's where my DC appreciation dries up at least in live action movies. But they still hit better heights than FOX/Sony did, IMO.

Honestly the single biggest reason I'm so pumped for the upcoming DD show is because it's a MCU component. Otherwise I'd care much, much less. I've never been much into street level characters and the less power they have the less I tend to care. I like superheroes for the 'super' first and foremost. Otherwise I might as well just concern myself with stories of regular literary heroes. I also like them(superheroes) to have something of an edge to them but that's a secondary concern after the power one. So to me Hulk and Iron Man have always been my 2 go-to guys and the rest I'm much more casual on at best. So the whole MCU thing is a big help getting me to care more about Thor, Cap, DD, and soon Spidey, etc.

Man such a Marvel-y day today we got a look at DD red costume FFs Look at the Thing and a Concept look of Angel in X-men Apocalypse!
