MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 5

Wow, not excited or happy about this at all. This essentially seals Ghost Rider's doom to be away from the MCU forever. Now we'll never see him in the movies. Why is Marvel TV still a thing? Does Feige have a say?

I'm not sure we can say one way or another. I've got to imagine that eventually, especially after Marvel Studios starts doing more streaming shows, Marvel TV's resources, responsibilities and projects get subsumed by Marvel Studios. It hardly makes sense to have two entities, not that it ever really did.

We also have to remember, the Marvel Studios shows will be higher budget affairs and they don't have a TV infrastructure at this point. Marvel Entertainment does. We'll never see Marvel Studios putting out like 5 shows a year I don't think. Maybe 2 or 3 max until they get their feet wet into those ventures.

That is an interesting wrinkle. Not sure what this means:

However, sources stress that this will be a completely new iteration of the character in no way connected to the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” storyline.

Does this mean soft reboot or just mean that the story itself will not pick up where AoS left him? Or do they simply mean he will be "darker" and "edgier" in this show vs AoS? We'll have to wait and see what this eventually means. Suicide Squad's sequel was stated to be a soft reboot...and then they brought half the original cast back, lol. So this insider may just not understand exactly what the source was saying.

If this is not connected to AOS, this will make Luna one of a few actors to play the same character in two different continuities. The only actress I can think of would be Judi Dench as M in Bond.

Could be a soft reboot, though!

My thinking is he will start the show as Ghost Rider and his deal to be the Rider will be referenced and such, but no events from AoS will be directly referenced/shown and ultimately nothing from AoS will be relevant to the show. I also imagine the show will be edgier in tone.

I would guess it is probably just a shift for the character that maybe doesn't reference his time on AoS. They probably want to go darker with the character, I could see this being something like a drug cartel storyline with a supernatural influence.

Great minds think alike :oldrazz:

I don't see why it can't be the same GR, especially if it's the same actor. Doesn't mean they need to address what happened with him on AoS.

He must play The Champion!!!! :hehe:
That would be fun. Of the Elders, the Gardner feels better, but the Rock as the Champion is at least fun.

Are you saying that characters cast for television shows are never going to appear in movies? If so, I disagree. But even if you think that, it shouldn't matter at this point since he already appeared in Agents of SHIELD.

Plus, while they hinted at the character as well, there's still room for Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch to appear in a movie if you choose.

I'm excited. AOS is hit or miss but I really dug Luna as Ghost Rider.

Yes you'll never see Tandy and Tyrone from Cloak and Dagger show up in the movies, ditto for the Runways kids, you'll never see Quake or any AOS in the movies. They're all in a weird state of limbo within an MCU pocket universe that will never be acknowledged by Feige's side. Now Robbie Reyes will join them in the exile. I wish all Marvel characters were under one universe able to crossover

That's why I hope Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist get rebooted by Feige's team, whatever that may look like

Lighten up amigo, it's all connected :o

Doesn’t feel connected. Feels very separate imo. I know they acknowledge certain events but only the New York fight and that’s all I can remember

It's all connected in theory. In theory, communism works.

I really want Charlie Hunnam as Johnny Blaze.

Also, when will we get Ghost Rider and Hellstrom subforums? I'm far more interested in the former since I actually thought that Gabriel Luna was a far better Ghost Rider than Nicholas Cage. Even though we'll likely meet Johnny this season, I also hope that Ghost Rider does well so we can meet Dan and Ally.

As for villains, I'm 100% up for The Orb, Jones, Centurius, Deathwatch, Blackheart, Kazann, Zadkiel and Adam. I really don't want to see Blackout since Spirit of Vengeance was a horrible experience. And if we do get Blackheart, I want to see him as a comic-accurate GCI creation this time around since he was horrible in the first film.

And if this show does well, we may finally see Moon Knight and Blade in the MCU.

It feels that way since the movies never reference the tv shows. "It's all connected" feels more like a theory atm.
