MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 5

With so much great content out there, “fine” isn’t worth it. Life’s too short.
But not all great content is to everyone's taste: I agree AoS is not must see tv, but for me it is really good superhero fare while I do not have something else to watch or do.
I prefer something along my taste instead of some masterpiece in some genre or subject that I do not care about, we are far away yet from having too much content.

Having rewatched season recently, the first two episodes are far and away the weakest two episodes. But it bled viewers early on before the show got good.

Yeah, the first ten episodes were actually really rather difficult for me to get through: it felt so episodic and uneventful, and I had no idea whether there was even a plot-line or anything, but the second half of Season 1 hooked me - from then on it's been pretty smooth sailing.

I'm about halfway through Season 4 now, and I'm amazed that I actually never wanted to watch this show before. Like so many others, I looked down on AoS and I may have even rolled my eyes when the cast showed up at the Captain Marvel premiere.

Manish Dayal is in this show too, which makes it even better - I loved him in The Hundred-Foot Journey, and I had no idea he was in Marvel: kind of frustrating, though, that he can't be in the MCU proper, then.

While I wouldn't disagree with things not getting good until about halfway through, I will maintain that each episode (for the most part) was an improvement on the last. That shows you just how bad things were to start but also shows, imo, that things were clearly improving each step along the way.

True - things started getting really good (for me, at least) when Ruth Negga’s character Raina showed up.

I hope someone ask him when to expect phase four announcement, Fantastic four and Xmen.

Someone should totally post a ton of his answers later
I feel bummed because I asked Feige about a Fantastic Four theory on Reddit that I know he’s going to ignore.

But man, I would lose my mind if he responded even if he gives out his usual non-answers.

Feige’s a really cool guy. Hopefully we get some answers from this, but I suppose that’s unlikely.

Are there any plans to use previously forgotten characters such as Leader, Abomination or Justin Hammer in the mcu?

I'm not sure I'd call them forgotten characters but I love bringing back characters people think they've seen the last of. For example, General Ross and Harley.

Mr. Feige,

(1) Are there any storylines that you think are “unfilmable”?

(2) Has producing these films changed the way that you read and enjoy comics?

(3) Who is someone that’s yet to appear in the MCU that you are itching to introduce?

  1. Everything is filmable nowadays. It's about finding the most resonant character stories to bring to the big screen.

  2. Not really, I still like to read the comics every week from a fan's point of view.

  3. You'll know soon enough.

After Iron Man 1, when did you realize how this franchise would be huge beyond a 1-off superhero movie?

Opening weekend of the first Avengers.

Hey Kevin! Do you have a favorite individual scene from any of the MCU movies?

Also, do you have a script for Ant-Man and the Wasp 2? Because I have some ideas.

There are too many to list, but I will say my entire MCU career was building up to that "on your left" moment in Endgame.

Hi Kevin!

My question is about Joe and Anthony Russo.

When did you and your team at marvel realize that they were the ones that should helm the last two avengers films?

Was there a specific moment you remember thinking that they would be best to handle the conclusion to this saga?

We loved the experience working with them on The Winter Soldier. We had an amazing time developing the Civil War script with them, I think it was soon before production began on Civil War that we asked them to direct Infinity War and Endgame.

How much will the Disney+ shows weave into the films?

Totally and completely.

Hey Kevin! Thanks for speaking with us today!

Without going ino to details about developing projects, are there any plans to incorporate the Ten Rings from the first Iron Man, or the "real" Mandarin teased in "All Hail the King" in the future?

This might be the most revealing thing hes said so far. Now I'm curious.

Who are some people behind the scenes at Marvel Studios who should be given some recognition for making the MCU what it is now?

The best part about putting a tag at the end of a movie is so the audience can sit through the entire end crawl and read all the names of the amazing people who make the MCU what it is.

Hello Mr. Feige. It's absolutely unbelievable to have you here on Reddit.

I'm so excited I just have to ask something, even if the chances of you answering my question(s) are 1 in 14,000,605.

I have a few:

  1. When did you become aware of the r/marvelstudios subreddit? What do you feel about the insane hype here?
  2. Out of all the characters in the MCU, whose story arc is your personal favorite and why?
  3. I really miss the Marvel One-Shots that were a fun way to explore the world around the MCU through peripheral characters. Can we expect them to return?
  4. Cap lifting Mjolnir was one of the strongest (crowd-cheering) moments in Endgame. Does he become worthy in that moment or has he been worthy for a while since, say, Avengers: Age of Ultron?
  5. Did you get a chance to watch a screening of Avengers: Endgame with the moviegoing audience? If so, how did it go?
Some more; feel free to skip these if they reveal too much:

  1. How closely can we expect the Disney+ shows to connect to the movies? Will there ever be characters who debut in those shows and appear as regulars in the movies later?
  2. Billions were snapped, and then brought back. Will we ever get something (Movie, Disney+ show, One-Shot) depicting the aftermath of either the snap or its undoing in the MCU on a more global scale, like The Leftovers?
  3. Will there be more Avengers movies down the line? Or was Endgame the end?
Once again, thank you for doing this Mr. Feige. Congratulations on the $1 billion for Captain Marvel and the $2.5 billion for Endgameand thank you for 11 years of amazing superhero movies.

  1. Marvel Studios producer Jonathan Schwartz is always lurking around here and tells me about it.

  2. Tony Stark comes to mind.

  3. We're coming up with many new, fun ways to explore the world around the MCU.

  4. We think he was always worthy and was being polite in Age of Ultron.

  5. Yes, and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

What did you think of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse?

Loved it.

Hey Kevin! You probably won’t see this comment in the flood of them but I’d like to ask, with the Marvel writers and directors having so much freedom with the story, how much of the overarching story do you control and how much is up to people like James Gunn and Taika Waititi?

Filmmaking is a collaborative medium.
Hello Kevin, thank you for doing AMAA!

My question: is there an actor/actress that hasn't been in the MCU movie yet, but you wish to see in the MCU?

Yes, lots.

Hi Kevin, thanks for doing the AMAA!

People have expressed views that, in Endgame, those brought back by the snap could have died in accidents (like someone being brought back 100 ft in the air where a plane used to be). Is it possible that Hulk, when doing the snap, not only brought everyone back, but also brought them back in a safe place?

Thanks and have a good one!

We refer to the version of Hulk in Endgame as Smart Hulk. So, yes.

Martin Starr was both in the Incredible Hulk (very briefly in the computer lab) and in Spider-Man: Homecoming as Peter Parker’s debate coach. Can we assume these are the same people?

Hey Kevin, it's Kevin and I wanted to ask what made you guys start with Ironman as the first film to start a legacy with? It was an incredibly great idea with the script and actors making it awesome! But why Ironman first?

We thought Tony Stark was a great and unique character for our first film because he was so different from any comic book character that had been brought to the screen before.

First, I just wanna say thank you. I´ve been a huge Avengers fan since I was a kid. Seeing Iron Man in theaters for the first time was a dream come true. Younger me could not imagine how far the MCU has gone. Thank you so much. Now, question.

Why was Jon Favreau chosen to direct Iron Man? I love the movie and think Jon did an amazing job. But he had never done anything like it in regards of scale, budget or genre. What made Jon Favreau stand out?

Jon Favreau is one of the best storytellers on the planet, and Elf is a stone cold classic.

You have been involved in producing Marvel movies since 2000, some of which, Pre-MCU, had missteps. What kind of lessons did you learn from those that helped you create this vision of the MCU that is now not only a worldwide phenomenon, but also has been a hit with critics?

Thank you for the MCU. I can't explain how much of a comfort and joy it has been to be able to grow with these characters over the last 10 years.

Respect the source material.

Hire passionate filmmakers regardless of how much money their last movie made.

Hire the best cast regardless of their current marquee value.

Thanks for doing this, Mr. Feige.

Is there anything in particular you and the creative forces behind Marvel Studios consciously do to try to avoid falling into this so-called "comic book movie fatigue" people are claiming?

Also, how many Easter eggs are out there that no one's has caught onto yet?

Nobody would get fatigued before the creative forces at Marvel Studios who do this 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so we believe that if we're still taking risks and making unique choices to keep ourselves excited, the audience will feel the same way.

The lack of returning character music themes in the MCU has been known to be an issue a few years ago. Nowadays, the MCU uses past themes pretty well and seems to have upped their leitmotif game quite a bit.

Is this something you actively made an effort to help improve? Was getting Silvestri back for Avengers 3 and 4 your choice? and was it always planned? Do you oversee the scoring process of each film with the directors? And lastly, what is your favourite MCU theme?

If you answer even one of these, I’ll be very satisfied :D

I'm a film score nerd. Working with Alan Silvestri was one of the best experiences of my life. He's a genius.

Hello Kevin

Who is noobmaster69?

Aren't we all a little noobmaster69?

Hey Kevin! What's your favorite DC movie? I'd be floored if you do answer me!!

Richard Donner's Superman 1
