I've lurked on this board for a while, and after having watched "the clip," from A$$-chin's late-nite show, I felt I had to post. Now, I have to say, since I feel I'll probably get torn a new one for this post, that I'm an avid X-Men fan. I love a ton of comics, but X-Men have always been "my superhero comic," and I've geeked-out, gleefully, over every incarnation, be it the several cartoon series,' the games, or the films. My favorite thing about the X-Men are the Sentinels--or, more clearly, the massive smack-down that the X-Men put on the Sentinels, in every incarnation--followed by Apocalypse, and then Magneto and his Acolytes. There's just something about seeing this group of mutants coordinating their attacks against the ultimate symbol of human intolerance, and hatred, for mutant-kind, that gives me goose bumps. Ever since I learned that the first film was being made, I've been patiently waiting for the mutant-hunting robots to make their appearance. I didn't expect them in the first film, I was hoping for them in X2, though I quickly got over it since the film was a superb one, and now that I've seen this clip, I'm very disappointed. The Sentinels, as much as some fans will state to the contrary, are a HUGE part of the X-Men universe/mythology, and deserve a far better treatment than they receive in this clip, and we, as fans, as the main source of profit for these films, deserve a far better representation than what I watched. I know that they might (might) appear in other parts of the film, but this is the only official release, so far, that has dealt with the Sentinels, so it's all I, and we, have to go on. Now, I'm not going to say that this film will suck, since I'm holding out final judgment until the movie opens, but I've been following, as I'm certain many of us have, the production of X3 through sites like aintitcool and darkhorizons, and I've been very worried about Ratner's abilities, Rothman's forcing the film to be done for this summer, and the numerous rumors surrounding plot points. This clip, with this pi$$-poor "Sentinel," only bolsters the fears I have that this will be a sub-par X-Men film. I'm not only disappointed by the "Sentinel" itself, which is more than enough for me to continue to have reservations, but also by the chunk of clunky script I heard the actors blurt out, the horrific orchestrations playing in the background, and the terrible s/fx transformation of Colossus. I've read some posts saying that people heard this was an unfinished part of the film...I certainly hope so, since I found it completely awful. I'm not condemning this film before it opens, but looking at that clip, a clip that the makers of this film freely put on national TV (albeit only on Leno), I can't honestly say I was impressed, as some have, and I must say that I was really let down. I'm not trying to change anyone's minds, and I'm not whining, but as a fan, I'm sorry to see that this might not be the spectacle we all hope it will be, and it might be a different kind of spectacle altogether. ---MyPantsRTight!!
