Glad to see you're on board with said theory. Being an animator it's something I discuss often.
See, I'm not impossible to reach
Bays films attempt to entertain the audience and just like the Hangover, they were successful considering the audience went for cinema and not the actors studio. As far as I'm concerned the TF movies like alot of movies have about 3 characters. and as far as I'm concerned they are as "fleshed out" as they need to be for the film to work.
My problem isint necessarily with all Bay films or other films that attempt to please a particular segment or the populance.
While I may be a bit critical of Badboys,Armageddon extra, for lacking characterization, I dont really hate the films because they were, at heart, popcorn films.
But, I am overly critical of the TF films because the franchise, and the fandom, deserved for more then to be reduced to a summer popcorn film.
And that trend has yet to end, you should be happy.
The 2 films almost did indeed end the trend.
The "existing" audience can hardly support their own material let alone a film,
I dont agree, but I cant debate thast.
But you cant tell me that a story could not have been told that would have stratified both the existing audience and a general audience.
Granted, it would have been difficult, but its been done before.
and hows that working out for them?
I know it worked out great for the first 2 films I pointed out.
Bay's work as a whole is a very strong contribution to the art of cinema, politics aside Criterion got it right. If the story was tighter I'm sure that would have been some people happy but then again 2001 is one of the most plotless films I have ever seen and unlike the moving photography films that one was also trying to tell a story. Who am I to tell the many "fans" of that film that it needs more story and they are liking something that shouldn't be liked.
I dont think I ever implied that someone else shouldnt like the films.
If it's fact then prove it.
I already proved it when I pointed to the fact that flim makers have used "incests" as a guide to alien looks for years.
And when I pointed out the flaw in your theroy that superior tech and living robots should imply alien life.
But you don't add them to robots unless you're trying to make a direct parallel.
Which is what Bay was trying to do with the designs used.
He was trying to draw a "mental connection" in the minds of the general audience by giving them a familiar alien look to other alien films they may have seen..
Humans are meant to be that parallel.
In G1 maybe, not in these films.
The audience knows the Transformers are aliens because in the first 10 minutes Optimus tells the audience they're from a distant planet. People don't guess this from the animal anatomy.
A] many film goes dont see or pay attention to the opening of films
B] its common practice for film makers to the audience visual cue's to what the characters are.
just saying Superman is an alien and has super powers isint enough. You got to show him doing something superhuman or show his planet.
Superior technology could mean only two things: from the future or an alien race.
You got a limited imagination.
And Sam is not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.
And neither is 90% of the general audience , further more most movie goes check logic at the door.
Thanks for proving my point.
So I guess Fortress Maximus has a very very big mother and that baby Aerialbots are born like cubs.
Very poor examples since there is no Fortress Maximus in this universe, nor have there been any TF's of his size shown.
But its not impossible to imagine that a normally born TF can grow, expand, add mass by other means to archive a greater size.
Sorry but breeding and births don't fit the Transformers universe.
Sorry, but they have been part of the TF universe, in one sence or an other since the begining.
They're are built individually as part of a technological arms race.
Continuity specific.
It doesnt apply to every continuity.
How does cell division result in gears, wheels, computer chips and wiring? Sorry but it doesn't fit.
In your opinion.
Fact is that it is how it was explained in the comics. If you dont like it, take it up with Marvel.
Transformers build other Transformers. They also give each other the life force before they function.
again, continuity specific.
They're humanoid because they mirror human flaws and strengths. They have guns like humans, they have fears like humans, they have conquest like humans. They exhibit cowardice, bravery, greed, and sadness. They fight for power, freedom and energy. they have languege and sophisticated tools.
They don't mirror bugs or fish. They're civilized beings. They mirror humans.
You just made the case for why they needed a cvradical look change.
They were alien life forms that mirrored humans, which was never logical sine they existed far longer then humans.
and why would you only be allowed to use physical anatomy for clues to the alien origin? Why not use other aspects of storytelling?
Because Bay isint capable.
