The problem is there isn't really much of a market for adult R-rated animated features in the US. The general consensus is that animated movies have to be G or PG to make money. Even Spider-Verse was released with a PG rating.

If you market it for adults and get a voice cast that excites people I don’t think it’d do bad. Sausage party was a huge hit and that was rated r featuring a cast that got people excited.

Yes well here’s hoping this will be too (if it’s even coming out in theaters). The r rated direct to dvd dc animated films do just as well as the ones not ‘r’ rated and MK has a big following so, we’ll see.

Eh, I want live action. My Mortal Kombat was always live action. Even first arcade games.

But I'm curious about this one. Who knows maybe it will be fun.

It feels like it's gonna be another cheap WB animation. It's rather sad, because there's so much outlandish comic book stuff these days...

If only Snyder was into this. He can craft amazeballs fighting scenes.

Animated 'Mortal Kombat' Movie Sets Cast with Joel McHale, Jennifer Carpenter

'Scorpion's Revenge' will debut in the first half of 2020.

A new group of Kombatants are assembling. Warner Bros. Animation is plotting an animated movie based on the fighting video game titled Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge.

Community alum Joel McHale will voice Johnny Cage, while Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter will voice star as Sonya Blade in Scorpion’s Revenge, which will debut in first half of this year.

Scorpion’s Revenge is directed by Ethan Spaulding (Batman: Assault on Arkham, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis) from a script by Jeremy Adams (Supernatural, Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans) based on the videogame by Ed Boon and John Tobias.

The voice cast also includes Jordan Rodrigues as Lui Kang; Patrick Seitz as Scorpion and Hanzo Hasashi; Steve Blum as Sub-Zero; Artt Butler as Shang Tsung; Darin De Paul as Quan Chi; Robin Atkin Downes as Kano; David B. Mitchell as Raiden; Ike Amadi as Jax Briggs; Kevin Michael Richardson as Goro; Grey Griffin as Kitana and Satoshi Hasashi; and Fred Tatasciore as Demon Torturer.

Rick Morales (Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, Batman vs. Two-Face) is producer, and Jim Krieg (Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) is co-producer. Executive Producer is Sam Register. NetherRealms' Ed Boon is creative consultant.

It's not funny how many times I watched this as a kid. The CGI fights were so corny but so good. I still remember the trailer for National Lampoon's Senior Trip playing on the VHS too.

I’ll be honest, when I saw a headline that said Joel McHale as Johnny Cage”, I assumed it was for MK 2021!

Yeah. If rumors are true and Johnny isn’t actually in the MK movie, maybe McHale will be considered for the role in a sequel (assuming this is well received).
