Transformers Negatron: Discussion Thread for those that hate the way this movie is heading

Spider-Man 1 and 2 aren't classic...classic superhero movies would be Superman, Superman II, and '89 Batman...those are classic...Spider-Man 2 is better than the first Spider-Man movie, but, even though it has its emotional element, it lacks the action that the first one had...Superman, Superman II and Batman had an emotional level and intense action to make them classics.

And cryptic name can "strongly disagree" as much as he wants, what I say is my opinion, but truth be told, what I just stated, it is true.

Yes. Like I said... Supes 1 and 2. And, I agree, Bats 89 too.

But, Spidey (both 1 and 2... and hopefully 3), believe you me, are as well. I have no idea what's going through your brain to say otherwise. Sure, you're entitled to your opinion, but it's my opinion that your opinion is wrong. I think a large (overwhelming) percentage of the fan community agree as well....

But, that doesn't matter either I guess, right?.... which begs the question: What is a classic? Surely, it can't just be what XXTBWCXX says it is. I'm sure world opinion must count for something.

holy hypocricy, batman.

Well, I have no problem with Bay himself. I like his movies. But I really don't like the decisions he's making. For one, they messed up by throwing in some director who has no idea what Transformers' is all about (this has probably been said before, but I don't really feel like reading through dozens of pages). While his ideas would somewhat make sense to someone not all too familiar with "Transformers", it just doesn't sit well with those who are used to what was given to us for years.

While the designs for the Autobots and Decepticons look really cool (IMHO) they just don't look like Transformers (especially that peice of scrap metal that is Megatron). All of their protoforms don't even look like their cartoon counterparts, which I don't really like much. This would be perfect if they were making a Beast Wars film. If that were the case then yeah, the designs could stay. But this

megatron2.jpg

is just too much. I'd really rather have Optimus look like this

optimus_1_full_1.jpg

rather than

optimusPrimeEmpire.jpg

regardless if it looks "too fake or corny" as I've heard Bay claim.

Storyline wise, I haven't read the script, but I'm willing to give this film a chance. I'm gonna mainly be in that seat for the action (I love explosions, so sue me) but I'm sure I'll be constantly cringing at possibly bad dialogue.

I have a problem with Bay. His movies suck. He has his own action cliches he injects into his movies because he has to make up for the fact that he can't tell a story to save his life.

I really predict TF will be the end of Bay..hopefully so, and good riddance if so. I mean he's taken a pretty good piece of property and twisted it into something unrecognizable. Shows his vanity and lack of consideration for the fanbase or the original's vision.

ACTUALLY. That Optimus looks like a fat guy. The optimus in the empire cover looks like a ideal figure of optimus prime, much more in line with his cartoon look than that Homer Simpson one.

This is what I hate. you guys piss on bay for what he does best, then squirt your paste all over 300 which is like a bay-meets-lotr kind of thing. damn. Michael bay's films are great entertainment. YEAH, I SAID IT. Go to the movies and enjoy yourself and stop whining.

ok... Got a hold of the infamous script (Which does seem to follow of the stuff seen in the trailers and TV spot)... Let's just say:

1- Starscream not trying to overthrow Megatron
2- Dog farting jokes
3- Main character of the movie being the descendant of a sea captain that discovered Megatron
4- Energon cubes changed from "robot food" to mistical source of sparks
5- Cheap underwear scaning jokes
6- Megatron and Prime: Brothers! ????
7- Cliché "this is a bad dream... wake up" kind of writing
8- Stupid human kills Megatron (How weak is that!!)
9- cheesy dialogues
10- (And, even if it not in the script...) Prime has lips!

... It's a lock: Speilberg's/Bay's Transformers sucks a**!

I havent been keeping up with the film, so I cant say wheather I think its gonna be bad or not. I like some of bay's films, and I hate others. He is great at action, but not so good at the story.

I have seen the designs planned for the film, and I have to say that some look pretty good, while others look just awful IMHO. Optimus prime looks o.k, but I dislike the flames and the design of his feet (reminds me of monkey feet). Megatron looks like....well, its not good, thats not megatron at all to me. Bumblebee looks o.k., but I dislike his face somewhat though. Starscream, wow what can I say about him, chicken little?? the rest will do though.

Like I said, I know next to nothing on the story planned for the film, but if I hear some good buzz, I will give it a shot. cheers.

Spideylover 10 stay out of this thread or next time it's probation

That's an amazing manip, do you know who made it and if there are more? I think that's close to ideal, and it clearly shows that the G1 designs don't look campy or more unrealistic than the Bayformers. I'd prefer it if Prime had a smaller torso and thinker arms, but that's just nitpicking.

World opinion would make titanic a classic I guess. Well a classic is obviously whatever's the best of its type. Spidey isn't a classic and never will be since it's not the best. Box office determines popularity, not quality.

Well, even though it's not my cup-of-tea, I would not disagree with someone that called Titanic a classic. I saw it, thought it was well-made, well-acted, and a great love story. It is a classic.

I'm curious.... just which comic book adaptation do you think is "The Best?"
  1. Batman 89? (perhaps... but, sucky plot tho).
  2. Batman Begins (hell no... I like Batman Begins... but, HELL NO)...
  3. 300? (I wouldn't call Miller's 300 a comic book).
  4. V? (Maybe... but Moore hated it so maybe that says something).
  5. Superman 1? I'd agree. But then I don't understand folks who liked Supes 1 didn't like Supe Lives.
  6. Superman 2? I'd say Spidey is right up there equal to it if not better (because of the effects).
Spidey 1 and 2 are classics. I think very few people disagree with that. That doesn't mean they were perfect.

That's a week for you,i warned you already

This is the thread for ppl that want to complain and moan about the movie, leave them to it

Whatever... Back to Optimistprime then!

Look at what you're missing, boys! :wow:

How can you type that and still sleep at night? Spidey panders too much to the lowest common denominator to ever be a classic unfortunately. I wish Raimi would try to aim higher than his b-movie audience. Special fx that cost a ton do not make something a classic either unless they're groundbreaking work and spidey broke nothing but my hopes and dreams. it has to be excellent in almost every way to be a classic in my mind.

The comicbook movie genre, specifically the superhero movie part, has but one classic and it is superman the movie. Batman Returns comes damn close though.

Well, I agree about Superman (1). Batman Returns? Did you type that right??? That's a joke I hope. Maybe you meant Batman Begins??? But even then I wouldn't say that "comes close" to Superman. IMO it doesn't come close to Spidey 1 and 2.

As for Superman 1 being 'perfect'.... rose-colored nostalgia notwithstanding, I can find plenty wrong with Superman 1. Not the least of which is a way too old, cigarette smoking, not really all-that Margot Kidder and the uber-long drawn out story. Not to mention the comical and not-so-menacing Lex Luthor. :woot:

I actually agree with this post. But if you believe that, why are you defending Bay of all people?

I suspect its the same guys that did this

Well I never claimed it was perfect though its strengths far outweight its weaknesses, which makes it so enduring after all these years of lesser comicbook movies. There are a lot of immitators, but rarely any cb movie that could match or surpass it for some reason. :wow:

Batman Returns, I can confidently say is miles ahead of spider-man 1 and 2. It just has so many layers to it, elfman's brilliant score, great performances, the story faulters a bit, but overall it's an excellent, very well made film that successfully introduces two villains (three if you count shrek) which is admirable since most comicbook movies have trouble with just 1 villain's story.

I like bay's films and think he's being overlly criticized for what he does so well, which is produce flicks that BLOW YOU TO THE BACK OF THE THEATER.

I can't be the only person here who thinks people are blowing things way out of proportion, while eating their cumpets, adjusting their monocles, holding up one pinky while typing some bile online, making bay seem like some completely incompetent director who's only doing this for the $$$$ when that's absolutely not true.

That's who brett ratner is.

The brett ratner part got me:oldrazz: I agree with you on the Bay part and the CB movies I liked Batman Returns but I still think spidey 1 and 2 were good but always seemd to be lacking something for me.

I don't hate Batman Returns. I enjoyed it. But, I can't stomach the scene where he takes of his mask towards the end. It's soooooo badly done it almost ruins the whole movie for me. One second he has the black makup under his eyes and the next frame he doesn't. I also hate the "reimagined" Penguin-as-a-lunatic-monster backstory.... I would have preferred the real "mobster" or white collar criminal Penguin. As much as I like Tim Burton (and I love Tim Burton and I liked Batman 89 a lot), anyone who calls Batman Returns a good comic "adaptation" is out of their mind (IMHO). Only Burton's visceral imagery and great performances save that movie.

Elfman's score is brilliant (as usual)... as it was in Batman 89 also. And the performances were indeed all top-notch in Returns. So I'll give you that. But so are the performances in Spider-man 1 and 2. So I don't get your point.

Anybody that places Bay on such a higher pedestal than Sam Raimi is pretty much wacko in my book. And if you have any notions that Bay is making this movie out of his love for Transformers then you are more than delusional...you must be brainwashed.

If you mean the villains and aunt may, then I agree with you, but everyone elses performances have been mediocre, nothing special.
