Am I the only one that doesn't think he sucks? I enjoyed Armageddon, Bad Boys and The Island.
I enjoyed Bad Boys back when I was 18. But it's definately not a "classic." Heck, I think Bret Rattner's Rush Hour movies are WAY better.
The Island had a good story. Orci and Kurtzman are good writers (they also did MI:3). But it was completely dumbed down by Bay's directing and is nowhere near the classic it could have been.
And, really, that last line is what it comes down to. Nowhere near the classic it could have been. Despite being given huge production budgets Michael Bay has yet to produce a classic.
Well if you think about it Transformers would never be a classic with ANY director though...even the Spider-Man movies aren't classic.

In Bay's defense, The Rock is a classic , imo.
I dunno about that. Maybe.![]()
But, I've never heard anybody refer to it in that way. Sean Connery I think saved that movie. But, to me it's about as classic as Con-air... or Blown Away. It's in the same "throw away" category.

and bay is a very good action director and thats what this movie needs. i bet my life this movie will break records and kick the **** out of spider-man this summer. can't wait to see it.the rock is a classicand bay is a very good action director and thats what this movie needs. i bet my life this movie will break records and kick the **** out of spider-man this summer. can't wait to see it.
The funny thing is that more people are negative over the director than the movie itself.

The only scripts Orci and Kurtzman have written properly are their television shows, namely ALIAS. MI:3 was worthless and Legend of Zorro was a borefest with no substance, and now the Transformers script can barely stand on its own, which is what really worries me about the new Star Trek, unless Abrams allows someone else to do a rewrite on it. Let's face it, they're good at TV because they have several hours to tell a story. Make them cram their stories into 2 hours and it turns into an illogical collection of scenes with no destination in sight. 95% into both MI:3 and Legend of Zorro and I still had no idea where it was going and what the movies wanted to accomplish......and I still don't.
My dream writer/director for Transformers was always Alex Proyas. Alas it did not happen, so I am hopeful that Bay can do to Transformers what he did with Orci and Kurtzman's The Island, which at least entertained 100% action-wise with some 50% side dramas on the human condition. I know we wont get 100%/100%, but a man can dream. Maybe Alex will do the sequel.

Tis sad that Gojistomp is no longer around - but thank God that we have http://www.archive.org and their Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Here's the Essay for anyone interested in reading it... [split between two posts due to length]
Wha!? Wha!? Wha?!
Spider-man-- especially Spider-man 2-- are definately classics IMO. Right up there with Supes 1 and 2.
And cryptic name can "strongly disagree" as much as he wants, what I say is my opinion, but truth be told, what I just stated, it is true.
