Transformers Negatron: Discussion Thread for those that hate the way this movie is heading

The funny thing is that more people are negative over the director than the movie itself.

..well that's because Bay has a history of delivering, well...crap. If Speilburg was the Director instead on EP, the negativity towards the film would probably be cut in half.

Am I the only one that doesn't think he sucks? I enjoyed Armageddon, Bad Boys and The Island.

I just knew CFlash would be all over this. :D

I really hope Bay reads that essay. I doubt he will, but just so that if the movie fails, he'll know why. Then he'll blame Orci & Kurtzman....

The farther we have gotten into this movie the less we hear about or from Don Murphy. Is that because he has less to do with it now that it is in post-production, or has he just decided to shush?

I enjoyed Bad Boys back when I was 18. But it's definately not a "classic." Heck, I think Bret Rattner's Rush Hour movies are WAY better.

The Island had a good story. Orci and Kurtzman are good writers (they also did MI:3). But it was completely dumbed down by Bay's directing and is nowhere near the classic it could have been.

And, really, that last line is what it comes down to. Nowhere near the classic it could have been. Despite being given huge production budgets Michael Bay has yet to produce a classic.

In Bay's defense, The Rock is a classic , imo.

Well if you think about it Transformers would never be a classic with ANY director though...even the Spider-Man movies aren't classic.

Wha!? Wha!? Wha?!
Spider-man-- especially Spider-man 2-- are definately classics IMO. Right up there with Supes 1 and 2.

Orci's and Kurtzman's story for The Legend of Zorro is part of the reason why I'm still concerned about this movie. It's a terrible Zorro story - it should've been much better. If it had been Jack of all Trades: The Movie it would've been better - {change a few names it it could've been}.

Their Jack of All Trades tv series was pretty entertaining [an action-adventure comedy series] - and I probably liked their work on Hercules and Xena.

I'm still hoping the Transformers movie will be good - so I'm not going to dismiss the final product off hand - Orci and Kurtzman at least seemed enthused in that video interview they did last year on Yahoo.

I dunno about that. Maybe.
But, I've never heard anybody refer to it in that way. Sean Connery I think saved that movie. But, to me it's about as classic as Con-air... or Blown Away. It's in the same "throw away" category.

*ahem* this is the NEGATRON thread...

The funny thing is that more people are negative over the director than the movie itself.

There are screenplays that are great but have a bad director who never manages to fully realize the scope of the film's potential with his or her vision. Then you have scripts that are mediocre to begin when reading but are fully transformed into a work of art by the artistic vision of the man at the helm. I'm not going to comment on the script for this- Bay's rather flimsy word withstanding my suspicions that it's almost exactly the same as the leak- but I can comment on the director, and Bay is not the kind of director I would just unleash upon a Transformers film. Bay makes things explode and falls into the former category described in most of his films (which didn't exactly have Oscar-worthy material to begin with). That's all well and good, but I'd rather have a film I remember for respecting the source material while giving me the action it deserves than what I'm seeing Transformers turning out to be: a flick where things explode to the gasps of crummy actors with a brief flash of an Autobot-Decepticon emblem to placate fans.

Oh well. I'm just waiting for this film to make hundreds of millions and to hear all my uneducated friends say "THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOME BECAUSE OF THE EXPLOSIONS AND GIANT ROBOTS!", then to see more info on the front page about the "upcoming sequel" to the "breathtaking special effect wonder that was the Transformers movie".

the rock is a classic:o

It's not even on this list:
http://movies.ign.com/articles/673/673392p1.html
And I think that's a pretty inclusive list.

In fact, I don't think I've ever seen it on any "classic" list. Maxim list? Nope, not there either. And, that one spouts off a 100 movies.

Die Hard, Raiders, Aliens, Matrix, Die Hard (did I say that already).... those are classic. The Rock... um.... is not (IMO). (that doesn't mean it's "bad"... it's just not a classic.)

The Rock is the ONLY movie by Bay I can rewatch and Enjoy

Take away Sean Connery and Ed Harris' awesome performances and The Rock would be unwatchable crap.

The only scripts Orci and Kurtzman have written properly are their television shows, namely ALIAS. MI:3 was worthless and Legend of Zorro was a borefest with no substance, and now the Transformers script can barely stand on its own, which is what really worries me about the new Star Trek, unless Abrams allows someone else to do a rewrite on it. Let's face it, they're good at TV because they have several hours to tell a story. Make them cram their stories into 2 hours and it turns into an illogical collection of scenes with no destination in sight. 95% into both MI:3 and Legend of Zorro and I still had no idea where it was going and what the movies wanted to accomplish......and I still don't.

My dream writer/director for Transformers was always Alex Proyas. Alas it did not happen, so I am hopeful that Bay can do to Transformers what he did with Orci and Kurtzman's The Island, which at least entertained 100% action-wise with some 50% side dramas on the human condition. I know we wont get 100%/100%, but a man can dream. Maybe Alex will do the sequel.

Eh, Orci/Kurtzman are OK. I rather enjoyed MI:3.... I thought it was the best one out of the three. But, yeah, it wasn't super-great.

Alex Proyas.... wow.... we probably would have gotten the best darn sci-fi movie since the original Matrix (and Terminator before that). I, Robot was a suprisingly very good sci-fi movie (once you realize the term I,Robot is a reference to Asimov and not an adaptation of any one book).

And, with Spielberg and ILM as help, we STILL would've gotten the action. Minus, Michael Bay's horrendous (absolutely horrendous!) editing style.

P.S. Don't even get me started on Star Trek. I'm just happy B&B are taking a backseat (finally!).

hmmm. It's interesting you chose Spider-man and X-men (had minor changes) for examples instead of Godzilla, Catwoman, Elektra, LXG, or Batman and Robin (had major changes).

Spider-Man 1 and 2 aren't classic...classic superhero movies would be Superman, Superman II, and '89 Batman...those are classic...Spider-Man 2 is better than the first Spider-Man movie, but, even though it has its emotional element, it lacks the action that the first one had...Superman, Superman II and Batman had an emotional level and intense action to make them classics.

And cryptic name can "strongly disagree" as much as he wants, what I say is my opinion, but truth be told, what I just stated, it is true.

Its your opinion but its true? Way to not make sense. It IS your opinion...that is all it is. What you deem classic or not classic are matters of opinion and preference. Nice Capt Kirk imitation btw.
