Transformers Negatron: Discussion Thread for those that hate the way this movie is heading

i'd take a fitting story over playing to the G1 fans anyday
(in a bay film no less)

Yah...Bumblebee is better suited as a Camaro...that way, Sam gets a great car and a hot-ass girl.

Yeah that was obviously a direct shot at the thought of BB being a beetle but if your father was taking you to buy a car and you had a choice between a crappy looking Beetle and a crappy looking Camaro, which one would you take? On top of that it looks as if he meets Megan during the movie after he buys the car. Megan probably wouldnt give him a chance if he was driving a yellow Beetle. I just don't see the Beetle fitting into this particular story line.

It wasn't a shot against anything; it was paying homage to the original.

It never ceases to amaze me how people interpret the world around them the way they see fit.

I'm going to miss Bumblebee being the underdog. I've always liked the fact that he persevered and was among the bravest of the Autobots even though he was the smallest. Turning him into a camaro was kind of disheartening because he is now a big, badass musclecar...what's so underdog about that? And who did they pick to take the role of the underdog? Jazz...makes no sense.

Whole-heartedly agree with you there Nosebleed. It's just not the same with Bumblebee now a "big bad muscle car".

Too bad they didn't make Bumblebee a [comparatively] smaller fuel efficent car like a Saturn's ION or AURA or Honda's Accord or Civic [although none of those vehicles come in a yellow color] not as impressive as a sports car but it would certainly have allowed Bumblebee to remain a small but scrappy Autobot.

Hell, they could've made him a Dodge Neon, those come in yellow by the dozen. But that isn't BADASS enough. [sarcasm drenched]For robots who wanted to stay in disguise they sure picked some discrete vehicles[/sarcasm drenched]

1) Mini Cooper all the way in my book. I don't know about the rest of the country but you see them (and Yellow VW Beetles- the new ones- A LOT in New York City).

2) A Solstice.... just like Jazz... instead of Jazz. Either that or any old roadster... or spider... or something like that that the Solstice evolved from.

Anything but the tacky muscle car. I for one would NOT have gotten a muscle car when I was 16. Hopefully, I'll be able to teach my kid that s**t like that doesn't matter one iota.

But, it's Michael Bay... what'd you expect.

Pleaaase...as if Batman doesn't have even bigger nitpickers. Don't even give me that. :whatever:
Not this bad. Generally people still find things they like, especially with the new franchise. Yall are over the top bad. Even die hard fans of Batman's source material don't throw tempre tantrums with different adaptations and interpretations of their characters.

You think that people are complaining en masse for no reason at all...just to complain? You figure there is a reason. Bay has shown no respect for the fans...at all. The first producer to inform Transformer fans about this movie made all sorts of empty promises to the fans. So this has been a real bumpy ride for us. Plus the fact that a lot of us were hoping for more than just an empty but pretty action flick. Maybe something with a little bit of depth, something smart...like the comics and graphic novels. But we're getting an even more simplified version of the cartoon origin. So yeah...some of us got mad.

But we're the worst so what does it matter.

You were expecting something 'deep' from a franchise based on action figure concepts from the '80's? Seriously, bro...

Bay has shown no respect? I highly doubt that. Just look at the main character. He kept that virtually the same in order to please you guys. And the character descriptions are all accurate in essence to how they were originally, so I don't want to hear all that.

But, this movie really isn't being made for you. You're already a fan, and will see it regardless of how negative you talk about it. This movie is being made to draw in a new generation of fans, and to inroduce the concept in a serious and cool manner to people who are new to the whole ordeal. Why can't you understand this?

So you're just like the rest of the people who come here thinking that ALL there is to Transformers is a few action figures and an 80s cartoon. How can you come to a comic book forum and not realize that there IS more to characters than just what's on the surface. There are 20+ years of comic book history STILL RUNNING TODAY. So don't give me that crap that this stuff can't get deep.

Once again, speaking about things you don't know about. You think Bay was the one who wrote this film? Its the writers who've created the character descriptions...all of them Transformer fans. Bay didn't even WANT to do this movie in the first place...but money talks. Then when he gets interviewed he takes a defensive posture and says stuff like, "Oh...so you're a Transformer fan huh? So you LIKE those boxy robots? Well, I'm not trying to make a toy movie" Then let's do this...let's call the fans crybabies...because I'm a professional and I can spew whatever I want. He's an ass.

I understand this...and have had this conversation with dozens of people just like you talking like they know everything. I CAN'T understand why they would want to alienate the existing fans. What the hell does that accomplish. You are telling me there is NO middle ground. That they had to COMPLETELY destroy everything to make things marketable to everyone? I call BS on that...try telling that to Jon Favreau.

And those action figures probably wouldn't have been so popular- or just fleetingly popular (like so many of the gazillion toy franchises in the 80's) -if it weren't for the pretty 'deep' sci-fi concepts the Marvel writers wrote around them for Hasbro boxes, cartoon, and comics. Transformers would have blinked out like Insectaurs, Gobots, etc.

This movie... is actually a parody of those concepts. I think it's a shame.

You're so over-exxagerating b/c things didn't end up exactly how you envisioned them. Bro, you might be a nice guy ... but you're going nuts over this.

I guess its hard for you to understand that we wanted a movie that respected what Transformers had the potential to bring. But you are right, its made for the general audience and they will be happy with the story-lacking, non-character driven movie that Michael Bay will put out on 7.3.7. And you're also right that I will watch it...because I love Transformers. But it had potential to be fun AND smart sci fi...not just popcorn action.

I'm not choosing any sides and I can understand your aggravation with this movie but how do you know it will be "story-lacking" and "non-character" driven?

I dont know about Nosebleed, but to me-- aside from the script leaks, novel reviews, etc etc--- it's because of Michael Bay's history. Even a smart or great script would be rendered cliched, trite, and unbelievable on-screen by that man. The Island is a great example of this.

Leaked script, recent reviews, knowing Bay is at the helm...etc. If I'm wrong then I will admit it and be happy at the same time. And I'll melt my 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime.

quote THAT for truth.

Sorry, but I just don't see the studio taking a chance to make an epic Transformers film. It would only appeal to hard core fans and maybe gain some new fans. It just wouldn't have the same mass appeal. Not many people want to watch a 2 and a half hour film about two robot alien life forms talking about their differences. People want to see action and lots of it, when they hear giant robots in a movie. Take what you can get. You don't have to like it or accept it, but you should.:oldrazz:

LOL, the last line was me being sarcastic. Don't take it too personally. :o

You think Transformers was just a "silly toy commercial". Good for you.

But people like yourself shouldn't have creative control of the franchise. Why can't you understand this? :whatever:

Your definition of "epic" is strange. I don't think any TF fan wants a movie without action and a bunch of long-winded conversations about relationships. :whatever:

We want action but without the right context it's just loud, forgettable garbage right up there with Go-Bot fight scenes or LXG action sequences. I like lightsaber fights just as much as the next guy but we all know there's a huge difference between the Phantom Menace and Empire Strikes Back.

Bayformers = The Phantom Menace (waste of time)

What TF purists wanted = Empire Strikes Back (classic)

Woah, slow down there partner, we don't want to be going to extremes now. I share your thoughts though, I would totally love it for Bay to prove me wrong and make me look like a fool just for the sake of my beloved Transformers.
