Transformers Negatron: Discussion Thread for those that hate the way this movie is heading

the ONLY people that goto his website are his kiss ass worshippers and Transformer fans looking for news. Big deal.

btw...stay out of the Negatron thread if you're going to defend this movie.

Because everybody else has been banned.

Any summer movie with giant transforming robots in it is going to have mass appeal. Despite all the hype of GINO it never had that going for it. There is no comparison. Bay will be vindicated for his bastardization of Transformers and at which point he can belittle you all on his website.

The problem is that our giant transforming robots have become giant monsters.

This was gonna be response in "Fuss about Megatron" thread. Then it got closed. So, seeing as it hurt my head writing it all, it's going in here instead!

Me and all of my friends grew up on Transformers in the late 80's/early 90's. They were our ****. Every bit of pocket money - TF. Between us we had so many toys. Me, personaly, had G1 O.P, Megatron, Inferno and Grapple (which, if my really good memory serves me correct, were pretty much the same), Prowl, Mirage, Blur - I remember getting Skystalker (It was a big blue/grey jet/spaceship thing that transformedinto base, came with a micro bot) for my 5th birthday, I remember getting this big Truck that turned into a base and a jet that came with a untransformable (it's a word!) Prime figure, and a Car with another figure from the same range (anyone know what I'm talking about?!). I remember crying when Prime died. I remember being happy in the closing credits when they gave me hope he would come back. I remember renting some TF videos from near my Nans house that had these Green alien dudes riding around in Hotrods and Arcee's heads, I remember...a lot. Because of the idelible mark TF has left on me from my childhood.

But I, along with my friends, could not care one iota about the change of Megatron, or any of the other TF's for that matter. I think it might be because I've grown up a little bit. Or it might be because I understand he's in his protoform, or that the designs of the G1 Tf's look horribley dated when you take off your Rose-Tinted glasses. I don't wanna see giant toys fighting in streets of L.A - I wanna see massive transforming robots that don't look like they've been designed specificly to be mass-manufactured and sold to kids - I wanna sense of 'realism' (note the inverted comma's!), I want them to look like massive pieces of phenomenal technology that could make me die with a single stare, not like this...

...that image of Pat Lee's (i thinks!) Megatron, is, undoubtably, cool. But bring it into the real world...it'd look like a massive Megatron toy. I wanna see a Massive, terrifying robot...

..oh, there one is!

I understand why you hardcore fans are moaning (come and talk to me about Constantine...), but try and understand why other people don't care about the much needed changes.

RANT OVER!!!

Oh, I still think the movies gonna be a pile of garbage by the way, down to bay and that script.

I've said it a thousand times... one can expand and build on a visual concept, rather than throwing it out the window.

Exactly. No one wanted a direct translation. They wanted a faithful, recognizable adapation.

I totally hear what you're saying. Some of my friends are the same. For me, it's a bit different. I couldn't afford Transformers. I collected G.I. Joe (awesome, top notch comic book!!!) and Masters of the Universe. I only had 2 (two!) of the "larger" Transformers, Grimlock and Soundwave, and several of the small minibots (Bumblebee, Ravage, Lazerbeak, etc). I was rich!!! A friend and I actually pooled our money and get one of our friends (the "Kenny" of the group) a "fake" Shockwave for his birthday.

So I didn't "collect" Transformers. But, man, I loved the comic book and cartoon. The Transformers cartoon made the G.I. Joe cartoon look like the dumbest cartoon ever. And, the comic book (although not that good) only complemented the great cartoon. I LOVED THE STORY.

Decepticons could fly. Autobots couldn't (without jetpacks or just jumping really high like The Hulk). Some Decepticons could mass shift, no Autobot could (until Blaster). The introduction of Jetfire/Skyfire was special... a flying Autobot!!! We LOVED him (the Robotech look didnt hurt). The Stunticons were SPECIAL... they were CARS and they did NOT consider themselves Decepticons! Awesome!

Don't even get me started on the energon cube/Earth natural resources thing, which I think is one of the primary reasons I'm a hippie, environment lover today.

So many "cool" things that I thought I lived through (story wise) were COMPLETELY abandoned by this movie. It's all about "ROBOTS THAT CHANGE INTO THINGS." :whatever: Or "Giant F****ing Robots" as Michael Bay has said and printed on his set T-Shirts. When, to me, Transformers was way more than that. So much potential........ it hurts. I might be an idiot, but I think the original Transformers *story* would have been better than The Terminator in the hands of the right director.

But, yeah, I know some of ya'll think it was just a dumb stupid cartoon.

After all this they really really should consider doing a remake of the original animated series, start with the War Within series and follow on with the earth era.

Yes, and I'm sure if you pop the hood you would see some robot hands holding up the engine.:o

Seeing as the Transformers are "robots in disguise" they don't need to have an Earth designed internal combustion engine.

Now - if this were a movie about cars/planes/trains/etc. that change into robots then such comments would actually hold weight. But this is about robots who change into vehicles & other devices.

Yeah, it looked cool, but try bringin it into the real world - it looks like a massive Transformer toy - not slagging the animation off, I thought it was dope as hell, but it doesn't look like it could be real in 'our world', it doesn't look like a being from an alien civilisation that has come to earth and can now transform into a car - it looks ill, it could (with enough work) look real but it don't look anywhere near 'realistic' (note the commas! I'm talkin in terms of multi-million dollar movie)...like I said, I like how it looks, and it's the part of me that wanted all the 'bots in the film to look G1 - but things that look cool as **** in a cartoon or in a comic are hard to make look cool in real (movie) life (this is where you moan about how perfect the Iron Man costume is, or Spideys, or...) - you make 'em look G1 in the movie and to most people they'll look like quite 'simplistic' designs - and I personally think they've updated the designs of the Autobots (Ironhide and O.P look raw) and Decepticons (Blackout is an actual badman) pretty well...

...all I'm sayin is, there's a part of me that understands why Superman79 could say that, but there's a bigger part of me that's stopped given a **** and is just looking foward to see a Transformer transform and shoot someone in the face on the big screen...could've brought more of the G1 mythology into it though...

Yeah... the animation was great, but the bot looked a bit Power-Ranger-ish. Maybe I've been brainwashed, but I've grown to like the robots in the movie..... I just wish Starscream and Megatron were a bit more faithful in terms of design cues (like Optimus Prime in the movie).

Guys, it's just some dude with a computer trying to make a faithful adaptation of what a live action transformer would look like. Not some multimillion dollar hollywood animation studio with the time, money and resources to make a piece of cgi look as detailed and realistic as humanly possible. The fact that it looks as good as it does is a tremendous achievement in of itself.

it must suck to hate this movie so bad. I would rather have something to look forward to than to just think about all the things i hate

We know that. My hats off to the guy and everyone here can agree that it was incredible. But Blind posted asking if it was to blocky and we answered. Its too blocky to work in the real world or the movie without looking like a Megazord or a massive toy. Not to menetion the other problems that would come with a design like that. Like big robot parts in alot of inside places.
