Transformers Negatron: Discussion Thread for those that hate the way this movie is heading

I'd like to say something:

I for one have been on the fence about this movie from day one. I've swayed back and forth between anticipation for it, to outrage about certain things but i've always remained solid on one thing: Speilburg needs to go down with this ship, especially if it's a disaster.

I'm too lazy to do it, but i'd like to go through all the post on here and see all those that defended the all knowing, sinless deity that is Mr.Speilburg, then see those same ppl's reactions when (or if) this movie is as bland as some have forseen.

My point? ppl have been dogging Bay from day one, and convieniantly forgetting the fact that Speilburg has the pull and power to change, any and everything he so chooses. So if this movie isn't all it could be, all you Bay-haters/Speilburg worshippers need to realise who the real face of the TF project belongs to: Steven Speilburg.

I think it's a combo of Both, I think Spielberg is too busy doing his own stuff and just letting Bay do whatever the hell he wants... it's obvious enough Spielberg looks at this as a cash cow and if he really cared for the characters he would've directed the damn thing himself... instead we've gotten exactly what I thought would happen based on prelim reviews... a Sethu film with some real huptiness in order to project typical ******ed Bayness... awful jokes mixed great action and crap dialogue... not exactly the transformers film I'm hping for but I could be wrong

That's what i've been saying from the getgo. This is techiqually Speilburg's movie. HE HIRED BAY, when he could have directed it himself.

It pisses me off whenever he says he's a big fan of TF's. If he's such a fan, he should have jumped at the chance to direct it himself, instead of twisting the arm of a director who didn't want to do it in the first place.

I agree Golgo, but on a slightly devil's advocate type of point, maybe he didn't want to direct it and get another director to do it who was a big profile director

i mean look at what's happened with Halo... Peter Jackson loves the material to death and then backed that Niel Blongkompf guy to direct it and the studios caved in and backed down altogether... perhaps if either Jackson himself or if he got a huge time director to do it then it could've been made perhaps...

How come I get pinged out whenever I say something like that? Oh well.

You people need to take this out of the Negatron thread and into the other threads overrun by 1) folks who think the original franchise sucked so much and 2) substandard hollywood cheese is all we ever could have hoped for.... and we should be glad we got it. Just my 2c.

I think it will fit into both honestly... I think the action will more than make up for all the cheese and stupidity the film's dialogue and deviation from the original story so it's somewhere in between IMO

In my book especially with a movie I've waited so long to see- since I was a kid- action will never make up for cheese, stupidity, and dialog. I could probably even forgive it if the underlying plot was worthwhile and intelligent. That's not the case here.

It will be interesting to however just to see as a mark... if Iron Man is any indication it will be sticking more closely to the souce material than any other comic book film to date and I'd defn like to see how people respond to it if it does live up to some awesome expectations vs the box office of this film... wehre a fun action block buster with all the summer dullness and yet kick ass visuals which could've been a lot closer to the source material... it will defn be very incredibly interesting

For me, there two things that make up the core of a good superhero/adaptation movie.

1) truthfulness to the core essense of the source. Prejudice and alienation in X-men. Obsession, sanity, and crime wave in Batman (the detective aspect I think has been somewhat missing from ALL the movies unfortunately), etc....

Sentient machines + environmental destruction/rape in Transformers (unfortunately, this movie doesnt deal with that).

2) faithfulness to *iconic* imagery. Batman's long cape, cowl, emblem. Wolverine's claws, Magneto's helmet... etc. There's room for "adaptation" here like X-Men's suits as long you don't go over board and paint flames on their suits.

Transformers seems to have gotten it right with Optimus Prime (as a robot). That's a huge plus. But wrong with almost EVERY OTHER aspect of this movie. Including Cyberton (I just found out) being NOT a purely mechanical planet.

It's called respecting and understanding the source. Not making a Gobots movie and calling it Transformers.

I dont see the difference between the animated movie version and the game version. Both lookied like living population resided there, so lights on buildings and such. Am i wrong, could you show some comparative screenshots?

I love that picture from the game too. It looks awesome. Maybe I'm spreading false info (and I apologize if I am), but acording to AvangardeX the planet is not purely mechanical. I don't know if this is referenced in the prequel comics, the novelization, or in the movie itself.

Nobody refuted his assertion... so I dunno.... I'm waiting to find out.

Ah, now i understand where your worries came from. A lot of stuff seems to be different in the novel versus actual film, such as the iceman scene and this perhaps.

I just wish they would cut out all this crap about "protect" or "destroy". They are not here for earth, they are here for a certain object.

Protect - The Autobots are searching for the Allspark, but aside from that, they do not want to create any harm with the humans. They want to find the Allspark and end the Cybertron wars with the Decepticons.

Destroy - The Decepticons too are looking for the Allspark, but they don't care if they kill anyone during the process.

It makes sense if you give it some thought.

I've seen them mention quite a few times that it was "protect the earth or detroys it". I think they also say it in the new game video. Actualy now that i recall watch the trailers again: some are here to destroy us.... a few to protect us.

Yes...7 Decepticons, only 5 Autobots.

I dont see what your getting at with the count? They still say to destroy US, as in direct mention of earth/humans. Thats not what they are supposed to be about at all. It's not like you said, were there still can be point of views, they really say directly the bad guys are here for US and to kill us, like any alien invasion movie. Did you watch that new game footage yet?

Haven't watched/heard anything about the game...but regarding the movie, the most that come to destroy, meaning they come to find the Allspark and if needed, they will destroy, and that's seven Decepticons...and the Autobots, who come to look for the Allspark too, but if Decepticons are the ones who don't care about lives of the humans, then the Autobots will be here to protect people from the Decepticons. The "protect" and "destroy" lines are fine by me. Even though a classic transformers line would've been better.

This may be taboo but I copied this from the Optimist thread:

The first time I've read the script- movie I've always looked forward to was a mixture of 'Small Soldier's and 'Indepence Day' and looks like that's what I got, so I'm more than happy.

Now Tempest19 has often said he is what we should expect of the general audience since he has no real knowledge of G1 or other incarnations. So if this is indicative of what the general audience sees in the script and previews then all I can do is put my face in my hand and shake my head in disgust.

BTW...I'm not claiming that one person speaks for all...but yeah...still shaking my head.

Small Soldiers and Independence Day?

Anger... rising...

I'm part of the general audience. This movie looks good in my opinion, and I know nothing of the characters or "G1". So maybe Bay isn't doing this for fans (for it may be too confusing,) but for the general audience.. Idk. Just me.

He can't be serious, he is probably just saying that to stir people up.

We're not asking for much. Just an engaging, memorable G1 Transformers movie that captures what made us life-long fans in the first place. :trans:

Bayformers is half-assed garbage that trivializes our fandom. Why should we lower our standards? Why should we give up on something we've anticipated since Reagan was in the White House?

Why?

Because Micheal Bay has his head way up his ass and needs coke money we should give up?
