Eh, in the case of something like Fant4stic, it definitely meant what we think it means. I think they should stop using it as a buzzword.

And, in the case of Dark Phoenix, it MIGHT also mean that... since it seems a space mission at the beginning of the film is as galactic as the film will get.

Yeah. "Grounded" is very much an inkblot word that appeals to studios. It can mean anything from "nothing extranormal" to "relatable and human." The context of the quote feels closer to the latter, but the emphasis on there not being uniforms, etc. is closer to the former (keep in mind, they don't appear to be telling a story related to the Xavier mansion and X-Men so uniforms wouldn't make sense, but the emphasis on no uniforms feels like an emphasis on avoiding comic bookiness. Doesn't mean that's what the finished product will show, but I think there's evidence of both interpretations of "grounded.").
Indeed. I'm not saying there isn't evidence that grounded can mean "nothing extranormal", but in the context of what we've seen from the film (faces coming out of walls, horrifying visions and a burning man in a washing machine etc) and what we've heard from extended footage, it's probably along the lines of "human and relatable", which fits with Boone's attempt at making this film a very performance driven horror-film. It's also in the context of a clearly supernatural horror film, where grounded can take a different meaning as opposed to say, a sci-fi dystopian Western like Logan, or a more traditional flick like Deadpool (where the writers also used terms like "gritty" and "pre-post Apocalyptic" when describing their films)

I was about to post that! Maybe a poster with inspiration from Bill's works.

Or a sequel :P

Trilogy confirmation hopefully!

I dislike the word "grounded" precisely because it has no practical meaning. It doesn't communicate anything useful, since what its supposed to mean widely varies based on who is saying it. Ends up mostly being a marketing phrase.

Probably because the Disney deal isn't done yet. The real word will be revealed once they start handling Fox.

I can see X-Force still happening, but not sure about everything else.

Some movies take a long time to even enter production (looking at Gambit). The thing is they don't have a lot of time and it would be stupid to cram all of these spin offs in more or less 18 months before Disney starts calling the shots. Jus the pressure of making those films months after the finalized deal with Disney is something directors wouldn't like to have. Deadpool 3, X-Force and a X-Force trilogy are possibly guaranteed because those would feature Wade Wilson. But Laura, Jamie and Remy... Its not like Disney is desperate for a potential film that could gross less than $500 million. They do have a lot in store in the next 3 years. So I don't see them being generous to Fox's other mutant films.

Deadpool and X-Force can be relocated in MCU. But main X-men movies must be rebooted

Disney doesnt have ideas to integrate them yet. But coming soon, Donner and Feige will include x-men and F4 into MCU post-phase 4

I'm hearing bad things from people. Barely anyone outside of seriously hardcore X-Men comic readers have any idea who or what the New Mutants are. Combine that with the "horror" aspect and a general confusion and disinterest from the average moviegoer, and you've got a perfect recipe for failure. While Fox now understands these issues and are actively trying to fix this mess, I'm afraid that all the happy go lucky reshoots they can muster up won't save this one. Very sad.

Where did you hear this?

There's also been...next to no talk of reshoots at all. This isn't Suicide Squad, so unless you've got an ear on the set of New Mutants, this all sounds like conjecture. And not even good conjecture. Or perhaps this is another case of someone having an 'inside source' like when Wonder Woman was supposedly a disjointed mess.

Or perhaps that's what some folks want.

Or just lies. Lol

I just feel sad for the property. The New Mutants deserve better than this.

Bad things. Really bad things from very, very smart people. This movie will be bad like all Crooked Fox movies.

SAD!!!

Well, the thing is in deals like this, they always have to pretty much act along the path as they would have before and conduct business as usual. So for awhile now until stuff is officially in place, anything can be announced and a movie being in production doesn't mean much as it can be stuck in pre-production for many years.

I could believe we'll see a New Mutants sequel if the first one is a hit. It sounds like this might be well into the development stage and if it gets the green light by the end of the year and starts shooting by early next year...

Of course that will be determined both by the first movie's quality and whether it clicks with audiences. Granted we have a Hollywood insider in this thread who is hearing "big things" about reshoots. And he knows people, the best people. Stable genius, and all that.

They need to get on with the new trailer already.
