Nope. Ubisoft said Kassandra is the canon protagonist character of Odyssey. And at least one of the books have reinforced this. I think Ubi focused on Alexios so heavily in the marketing, because they didnt want to alienate male gamers. That doesnt seem to be a priority concern this time around.
For the sake of fairness and equality I think the male Eivor should be the canon protagonist of Valhalla. Then in the next game make the female character the canon protagonist and so on and so forth. That way the canon is giving equal priority to both male and female gamers.
If the argument is fairness, we need like 10 games with only a female lead to get to "fairness".Nope. Ubisoft said Kassandra is the canon protagonist character of Odyssey. Dude, I am a male. In what way is making a female character the lead of a game alienating to men? Beyond men having infinitely more choice in that regard, I love playing as female characters. When given a choice, I created a female character in Nioh 2. Your response buys into the dudebro narrative that screwed up Odyssey in the first place. That men hate playing as women. Notably, super attractive women. No. Just no.No, because then theyd be doing to the male fanbase the same thing they did to the female fanbase. Neglecting one to appease the other. They cant undo what they did. They can be more fair and equal going forward, and fair and equal means rotating the gender of the canon protagonist.
Somehow I don't think neglecting men is going to be an issue facing the video game industry.

By the way, the idea that this is a question of fairness in terms of adding multiple female leads in a roll is a can of worms you really don't want to open. Because... yeah.
I didn't say a female lead alienates male gamers. I said Ubi probably worried it would when they were choosing whether to push Alexios or Kassandra in the marketing. They chose to use Alexios more heavily despite him not being the canon protagonist character which I consider evidence that they were worried about marketing with a female lead.
I'm not sure what you're implying with your second paragraph, but I do consider it an issue of fairness that the franchise not neglect or prioritize one gender. Alternating female and male canon leads while continuing gender choice in the games is the best way to accommodate all gamers whether they be male or female or whether they prefer male or female protagonists.
I hope the next setting will be Japan.
