Next Assassin's Creed Game Reportedly Set During The Viking Age

Ugh that would leave a bad taste in m mouth and take me out of the game too much

Nope. Ubisoft said Kassandra is the canon protagonist character of Odyssey. And at least one of the books have reinforced this. I think Ubi focused on Alexios so heavily in the marketing, because they didnt want to alienate male gamers. That doesnt seem to be a priority concern this time around.

For the sake of fairness and equality I think the male Eivor should be the canon protagonist of Valhalla. Then in the next game make the female character the canon protagonist and so on and so forth. That way the canon is giving equal priority to both male and female gamers.

Ubisoft Family Accused of Mishandling Sexual Misconduct Claims

It is all nice and fair to say that, when 2 of the games had the female lead either cut or drastically reduced.

What's with the upside down smiley face?

If the argument is fairness, we need like 10 games with only a female lead to get to "fairness". :lmao:

No, because then theyd be doing to the male fanbase the same thing they did to the female fanbase. Neglecting one to appease the other. They cant undo what they did. They can be more fair and equal going forward, and fair and equal means rotating the gender of the canon protagonist back and forth.

Dude, I am a male. In what way is making a female character the lead of a game alienating to men? Beyond men having infinitely more choice in that regard, I love playing as female characters. When given a choice, I created a female character in Nioh 2. Your response buys into the dudebro narrative that screwed up Odyssey in the first place. That men hate playing as women. Notably, super attractive women. No. Just no. :funny:

By the way, the idea that this is a question of fairness in terms of adding multiple female leads in a roll is a can of worms you really don't want to open. Because... yeah.

Somehow I don't think neglecting men is going to be an issue facing the video game industry.

I didn't say a female lead alienates male gamers. I said Ubi probably worried it would when they were choosing whether to push Alexios or Kassandra in the marketing. They chose to use Alexios more heavily despite him not being the canon protagonist character which I consider evidence that they were worried about marketing with a female lead.

I'm not sure what you're implying with your second paragraph, but I do consider it an issue of fairness that the franchise not neglect or prioritize one gender. Alternating female and male canon leads while continuing gender choice in the games is the best way to accommodate all gamers whether they be male or female or whether they prefer male or female protagonists.

Ubisoft, of "women are harder to animate" fame, does not deserve the doubt you are giving them. The stuff that has come out points to pure sexism in their decision making. Full stop.

Yeah Ubisoft flatout said they don't want an AC game set in Ancient Japan as there are a lot of games that are set in Japan. And Ghost of Tsushima probably is the final nail for that.

But I hope they don't cross out the possibility of the other East Asia countries as themain setting as well. Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mongolia... it would look visually different from the previous AC games. I kinda want the neXt AC game to be set somewhere in Asia.

Asia or South America would be ideal.

But if they feature Europe again, I want them to go Spain, Portugal, Germany or Russia.

So I just watched the gameplay footage, and man, they really aren't even hiding they are just making a Witcher 3 clone anymore (they even found Johnny!). I am not complaining, it looks like a lot of fun and the Witcher 3 is one of my absolute favorite games. But this isn't Assassin's Creed anymore at all. :funny:

I can't wait to play this.... however, I hope they go back to a massive city like Unity and Syndicate but five times larger than those locations.

When it comes to open world games, I don't really visit/roam around forests and mountains. And these last AC games are so big but they are mostly untouched lands. I usually avoid those areas after I'm done with the location objectives, when I know I am going to be attacked by animals out of nowhere. I am also not into the fantastical elements. Like if I want to play a fantasy game, I would have already played The Witcher 3, Shadow of Mordor and those other 3rd person that features a lot of mythical creatures.

So I'm hoping Ubisoft reinvents Assassin's Creed again after this one. And please go to Asia.

Looks good but can't say I'm all that hyped up even though the viking age fascinates me. I'll probably get it because it's Assassin's Creed but not sure if day 1 and especially with Cyberpunk 2077 finally coming out around the same time
