Nine most racist Disney characters ever

Id have to say the Lion King. How can 2 black parents give birth to Michael J Fox?

Oh and Goliath from Gargoyles, in one season when he was human he was black, but when they did the same trick in the last season (Goliath chronicles) he was white. wtf?

Actually that would Matthew Broderick as Simba:o

I seem to recall Wayland Smithers being black in the first seaon of the Simpsons. Maybe it was just a tan. :wow:

The Korean artists made a mistake on Smithers with his skin color and hair.

Well if you really wanted to get into it... what about Radcliffe from Pocahontas's or Frollo in the Hunchback? those were both "stereotypical racist whitemen" and you don't see the whites complaining... not saying we should... but i didn't take it as offensive. i take it as a play with stereotypes and characters. just how i take the other characters. It's only offensive if your really uptight and looking for it to be, none of the disney movies are teaching anyone to HATE these characters... and thats the difference.

Scary.
In that you cite individuals surrounded by others of the same type NOT as they are and then saying it's the same "sort" of stereotyping.

Please don't decide that being offended by a stereotype that covers ALL of a group must mean you are uptight,.. because you've yet to post an example of a white dipiction that is an accepted stereotype of the entire white "race".

These kind of arguements where you take a "slice" of one thing to excuse an entire cake being covered comes across as lazy.

Reminds me of the arguement put forth by the Aryan Nations in the Northwest in regards to Katrina:

They compared their yearly heavy snowfall and scheduled isolation and power outages that happened EVERY YEAR where they had solutions based on previous winters with the ONE major Storm/Flooding that destroyed a city and left people w/o anything to fall back on.

as far as they were concerned,.. because they could weather a scheduled disaster,... they were better people than the blacks who couldn't smoothly handle an occurance that had not occured before in anyones living memory.

And pointing out that they had disaster plans that did not depend on outside help BECAUSE they had plenty of experience on what to expect EVERY YEAR was like spitting into the wind.

Meh.

The crows were pretty damn offensive.

No offense... but by you constantly saying "Aryan" nations over and over.. doesn't that kinda of put you in the same boat as "separating" people into groups? And sorta make you racist your self?

Racism in Disney doesn't concern me.
That Dumbo scene with the hallucinations of pink and purple elephants? I've never got a good night's sleep since I saw that as a child...:(

Pardon?
I named a SPECIFIC GROUP ONCE who named themselves.

This is like calling a person sexist because he calls female adult females what they call themselves - women.

Sorry you can't be serious.

well it depends on the use... aryans to most means "blonde hair blue eyes"

And if they claim to be part of the Aryan Nations,.... what does THAT MEAN?

Somehow I doubt that it means they all have blonde hair and blue eyes.

Hence the reason why I don't believe you are serious.

well like i said it depends on how you say it... if your part of the "aryan nation group" then ya your racist bigots... but if you say aryans as meaning white people (like some do) then thats a racist comment

sorry, i read that part out of context... read it as the N/w nations are Aryan for some reason...

sorry.. i was worked up from previous peoples posts

Although based on an outdated stereotype, I'm not sure I would consider them offensive.

Sure, its old, and in today's context humorous, but many of us look at it with a satire in mind. In those days it was serious, not satirical.

it was just as serious as drawing jimmy durante with his big nose... back then it wasn't shown as hate.. but cartoon characters... i'm sure at the time it wasnt nearly as offensive as if cartoons were like that today.

You're right, it wasn't offensive simply because racism was the norm back then. It was okay to make fun of black people for their skin color. That doesn't make it any less of a sign of hate though.

true... demeaning ya.. but i definitely don't see it being as "hateful" as people deem it today... im sure alot of african american kids watched it back in the day and enjoyed it... hell i didnt even realise the racism behind it growing up when i was watching it

They're not half as bad as some of the racist comics produced by DC comics. But some of them are pretty bad; especially King Louie

HOW the hell is king louie bad? only black trait he has is jazz... which isn't even a "black exclusive" type of music... And if your saying.. "well he's also a monkey" then doesnt that make you kinda racist for assuming black people look like monkeys?

lol

plus if you feel that way about louie i guess you missed the nod to the british invasion and how the vultures were a nod to them

No problem this board has been "tense" for a little more than two months along color lines.

People are doing ill and off colored humor trying to break the tension and they are making it worse,....

I personally think that most people are at least a tiny bit racist. What I mean is, a lot of children are raised to "look after their own", even if its not on a major level. You can ask pretty much anyone who says, "I'm not racist!" the following question:

"Could you see yourself personally marrying someone of [insert race here] descent?"

My suspicion is that a higher percentage of answers would probably be "no", and when you get past the ones who use defensive excuses, I think it'll likely boil down to race, at least to some degree, and its not always "I hate this or that race".

As for myself, I'm fairly sure I'd have problems marrying an African woman, yet some of my friends are African. At the same time, I'd at least consider marrying a Spanish or Latin woman. I think if quite a few people were totally honest with themselves, they'd find themselves in a similar situation.

I hope no one was offended by this post, and if they were, I sincerely apologize.

That's not an entirely fair assumption. I don't think it's a racial thing, just a preference for certain types of appearances, just like a preference for blondes over red-heads or green eyes over brown.
