Dark of the Moon OFFICIAL Dark of the Moon REVIEW THREAD - Part 1

It just makes me sick how an action garbage like this makes such profit in the States, while intelligent films like "First Class" are being ignored and overlooked.

First Class. Such a great Movie, where I actually want to listen to more conversations between Erik and Charles or have other character build-up scenes. A Movie where I like the non-action scenes just as much as the action.

With ROTF and DOTM? I can see myself only fast-forwarding to the action scenes because anything else is simply embarrassing.

am i the only who couldn't tell the which deceptacons were which

megatron starscream and shock wave yeah they look unique enough, but i didn't even know it was soundwave as her car until that guy said his name

could we have had a bit of colour to try and spice up the look for Christ sake

^ROTF was far more difficult to tell apart than in DOTM. In DOTM the decepticons were basically gray/silver while the Autobots were colored. You could also spot Sentinel cause he had a good design.

I am simply depressed of a time that's come when people just want to watch such embarrassment. I know that a director creates his own vision of the world, but Micheal Bay's is just wrong. From the 'gay homicidal bugs-bunny comical Japanese person' to the 'psychotic schizophrenic German henchmen guy' to the Turturro person to the rich villain and 'ever posing sexy loving no matter what girlfriend' (that has to break-up some time for a plot twist) this universe will never exist, not even on an Island of clones. Or not to mention the dialogues between the robots.. even the cartoons like SuperheroSquad nowadays have more mature conversations.

Btw I completely agree with everything you said before. Great to know that there are people who see these things.

I actually totally forgot that it was Soundwave who was fighting Bumblebee. Because his voice wasn't as distinctive and he seemed to have a personality.

I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed that not more Autobots died. I actually never like too see anyone of them die, with exception of the Twins, but with stakes this high, and the overwhelming Decepticon forces, the death count should have been more even. Too many of the important Decepticons went out like b**ches and weren't shown in a good light.

Remember the first Movie? Starscream was effin' savage and death from above. Here he was chicken with his head cut-off. Devastator, who we all know is actually Brawl, took on 3 Autobots plus humans. Megatron and Prime fought evenly.

Now in DOTM, the only capable Decepticon is Sentinel Prime and... I think that's actually it.

That's the thing...

The REAL Optimus Prime would have never killed Sentinel in that fashion, or stated something such as "We will kill them all."

The reason why I fell in love with Optimus wasn't just because he was a wise and fearless leader that handed out ass-kickings, but because Optimus was also compassionate. He gave everyone every opportunity to change all the way to the very last second. Optimus didn't give Sentinel that opportunity.

I agree.

Killing Megatron is forgivable, because it was in the heat of battle. But Sentinel Prime was defeated. Crawling to his death. But my dude just pulls out a gun and pops him off.

It may or may not have been in line with Optimus's character, but damn. That was completely unheroic, and really, a terrible message to send to kids.

The first Movie, that would have been in the heat of battle. But here? Megatron saves his ass, is like "'sup dude? Time out?" and in response Prime takes off his head? What the hell?

He wasn't trying to save him, though. It was a mutual adversary.

Yes, but if Megatron really wanted to end it then and there, he could have easily taken a shot at Prime, who was wounded and on the ground. But he lowered his gun and even suggested a truce. Megatron, a truce. And how answers Prime? With an axe to the face. And then he guns down Sentinel. No honor on both accounts.

I guess I can see that. I just have a big problem with a movie being marketed to kids, where your main robot blows a defenseless enemy's head off.

Take the moral high ground, Optimus. Think of the children.

The message a kid should get from that is war isn't pretty and the right choice isn't always the heroic one.

Am I the only one who though the Wrecker scene was almost horrible to watch? Sure, they are machines and have no guts and all that, but watching them tear a defenseless Decepticon limb from limb, till it's lying as a torso on the ground before they kill it and Optimus watches completely calm. I was like "Woah! Hold on a sec! What the hell is going on here?!"

FADE IN

EXT. SUBURBAN BACKYARD - AFTERNOON

9-year-olds Mike and Timmy are playing with water guns in the backyard. Timmy trips over the sprinklers and lands on the driveway, scraping his knee.

TIMMY: (crying) Ow! I'm down!

Mike stands over Timmy.

TIMMY: Fine! It's over! You win!

Suddenly, Mike points his water gun at Timmy.

MIKE: Sorry, man. But this is war. And sometimes, the right choice isn't always the heroic one...

TIMMY: Wait, what?

Mike blasts Timmy in the face.

FADE OUT.

Wait wait wait...people now are complaining about the violence being too much???

Eh, I'm over the whole "take the enemy prisoner only to have them break out and kill somebody" thing. This is the only thing I give Bay credit for, the Autobots legitimately put an end to the threats.

I'm complaining that the Autobots seem to be more violent than the Decepticons. I think on the Decepticon's side we have Megatron ripping Jazz in half and lots of shooting. Autobots? They are like ****ing berserkers.

Or for them being responsible for the destruction on an entire city and the killing of thousands of innocent humans. Where were they going to take them? To Transformer Jail?

It not just this Movie. In ROTF the violence also seemed pretty excessive. Let me say that I have not problem with Autobots killing, it's how they portray them doing it. Killing in the heat of battle, or if there's no other choice in order to protect someone, that's one thing. But here we have them pretty much playing executioner.

Or for them being responsible for the destruction on an entire city and the killing of thousands of innocent humans. Where were they going to take them? To Transformer Jail?

You know that the Autobots actually let them do that, right? Just to prove a point. That's another thing that's ****ing wrong with this Movie.

Both sides have been equally vicious, to me. But I'm just having a hard time defending Optimus's decision to flat out execute a defenseless enemy. It's not a really a problem, per se. It's just a very curious move for a movie widely marketed towards kids. Optimus is the franchise's flagship character, and our lasting image of him here is blowing some dude's head off while he's crawling away.

Wait what?! I've only seen it once thus far but this actually happened? :wow:

...in either case, I still don't blame Optimus for doing what he did. I mean that mofo DID kill him in the last movie.

What I liked:

- I loved the historical fiction with the moon landing. Seeing Buzz Aldrin on screen was really cool!

- It was weird not seeing Megan Fox, but I thought they did a goob job establishing Rosie Whiteley's character.

- Ken Jeong was basically Leslie Chow again only with glasses this time.

- I don't know what the name of the red Autobot with the blades was, but he was cool.

- Laserbeak was badass!

- I'm guessing The Wreckers were supposed to be Bay's replacement for the Dinobots. I approved of them.

- Soundwave executing the Dr.Boskonovitch Autobot

- Patrick Dempsey was such a *****e and I loved it!

- When Optimus Prime showed up in Chicago and gave that Captain America-like speech

- Optimus Prime Vs. Sentinel was a great fight!

What I didn't like:

- The subtitle. Darkside of The Moon sounds better.

- John Turturro's character just won't die!

- Ironhide getting killed off.

- I liked Sentinel Prime (and it was really cool to hear Leonard Nimoy), but I felt his character should've been developed more before he turned heel.

- The plot of the film was taken from an episode of the original cartoon titled "The Ultimate Doom", but they halfassed it by not even bother to show that the gravity from Cybertron caused natural disasters. Oh yeah and the planet collapsed from Red Matter being used on it apparantly. Ugh!

- When Chi-Town was getting all fu**ed up, I felt like I was watching Terminator Salvation.

- They need to stop wasting film by adding a needless 30 minutes. When they did the whole chase scene throughout the collapsing building, I knew they did it to kill time because the film was starting to drag on.

- Shockwave AND Starscream were both killed by humans (who got way too much screen time)!!! Seriously, FU** YOU, MICHAEL BAY!

- And finally my biggest complaint with the film was the rematch / final fight between Optimus Prime and Megatron (who was hardly in the movie I might add), which ended in one move when Optimus decapitates Megatron. I was like "You got to be fu**king kidding me? That's it?!!" It was like getting pumped up for a boxing / MMA main event only for it to end in 10 seconds. After that, Optimus kills Sentinel, says a few things, and the film ends abruptly so I didn't get that sense of closure if this is supposed to be the last Transformers movie.[/SPOILER]

So overall, it was better than Revenge of The Fallen, but like Spider-Man 3, the first half was good then it goes downhill after that.

Yeah, but not only was Sentinel a traitor (usually treason alone is punishable by death), but he also killed Optimus' friend, Ironhide, so Prime got his revenge and rightfully so.

With that said, I had a bigger problem with Optimus Prime executing that defenseless Decepticon during the opening scene of ROTF.

People are still ******** over Optimus killing Megatron and Sentinel? Between the two of them, Megatron and Sentinel were responsible for the loss of thousands of innocent human lives, Jazz, Ironhide, and even Optimus himself in ROTF. They needed to die. No loose ends. END. OF. STORY.

And how many deaths was Optimus responsible for by allowing the attack to take place to prove a point?

NO. Optimus was WRONG.

The honorable thing to do was to simply take them into custody!!! Who cares that aside from their fellow Autobots, they've killed hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of humans their entire occupation on Earth.

Optimus still should've kept them alive so they can face...prosecution in a court of law?

...wait, what?
