Official Halo Thread

Hopefully Halo 4 is the last Halo game on 360. Halo 5 deserves a next gen system.

so the creative director isn't in control of the creative direction the game goes in? he shouldn't be leaving... he should be fired.....

I don't think you understand the article... or me. He was in control and the team was following him. The problem was that what was coming out wasn't what he had in my mind and things were becoming chaotic with him trying to get things to come out the way he wanted them, but couldn't do it.

One guy leaving because he wasn't getting his way means nothing... Now if more and more people leave then i will say that.

Until then, I hope this guy enjoys not making lots of cash...

According to the Kotaku article, which goes a little more in depth:

This doesn't mean Payton thinks Halo 4 will be a bad game. The core team is top flight, and they are there because they want to make the best Halo they can. It's just not the Halo Payton wanted to make.

So, just because he left 343 Industries, it doesn't necessarily mean that Halo 4 will be a bad game. Just a different game.

Considering I partly blame Payton for all the screw-ups in MGS4, I'm not sad to see him go.

Guys... I'm so mega pissed right now. I've been playing ODST for a while and decided today that I would finally play through it. Continued from where I left off like normal and after finishing the latest chapter, the game wants me to do everything from the beginning again. What the ****? -_-

After you complete the campaign, it becomes free roam.

If you want to play again, you have to start a new file.

Here's the thing, I haven't finished the Campaign yet. I just finished Act 6, Kikowani Station and then went on to the next beacon, only to discover that I had already played that part.

I'm pretty sure there's a door that you have to go through to access the final level - not a beacon.

I could be wrong, though. It's been a while since I played it myself. Search online for some walkthroughs to see what you're supposed to do.

I've looked it up. I'm not the first to encounter this problem. For whatever reason I have to find all beacons and do all flashbacks again, before I can advance. The Data Hive, the next chapter, isn't even listed on my list of objectives. But all chapters except for chapter 6 are marked as unfinished.

I think that actually happens... Is that where you have to go down the tunnels? I'm pretty sure it's because you stay as rookie from that point onwards, there are no more flashbacks. You've got to find Dare.

Yeah, Buck says "Hold on, get us down here." And then the Data Hive Mission is supposed to start. But when I went to the next point on my Map, it turned out that I was playing the very first Mission again. And all Missions I finished up to that point suddenly were unchecked on my Mission list.

Played 'Beaver Creek' on Halo : Anniversary today at a gaming Expo... Gameplay wise... Like the original, but with a couple of Reach tweaks (Namely Assasinations). Some chages to the map itself, but nothing too drastic.

Game looks great.

you're welcome.... the 5am start was worth it to be able to play about ten minutes of Halo:Anniversary..... Now to collapse and sleep for a day LOL

I've heard alot of people credit Payton with MGS4 not falling apart, actually...

From what I've heard of his leaving, some are just taking this as a sign of Halo 4 being more of the same, and not being some radical change in the series.

Which...should be a good thing. Why fix what's not broken?

He pushed for MGS4 to be "Westernized," which I saw absolutely no reason for.

But then again, I'm a diehard MGS/MGS2 fan, so I admit to being biased.

So I forced myself to replay all of the flashbacks and finally beat ODST. I must say it was a fun ride. Definitely more fun than Reach. Which I thought was rather lackluster.

I actually wouldn't mind some changes. I wish the action would be a lot more, what's the word, dynamic? We are playing a super soldier after all, but the FPS action itself feels very generic. It's FPS standard, but I wish the game would push to do a bit more. FPS games in recent years like Mirror's Edge, Bulletstorm, Brink and the unfortunately cancelled Avengers game, showed that you could do a lot more from a first person view.

I'd love to have some parkour elements, quickly maneuver through and over obstacles, disarm enemies in close combat, have a robust melee system. Maybe throw in some of those close combat moves from Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

In short, I would want to be able to do anything you see in this clip. And it would be possible too. But I don't know if Halo fans would welcome this level of change.

"Westernized" in what sense?

Because, I do know that it was still a very insane game. Yet it still made sense admist all that...what people call "Japan insanity".

I'm a huge MGS fan too. But, I wouldn't want any MGS game to be like MGS2 was.

"Westernized" in what sense?
The simple fact that you could easily just blow through the game with an extensive arsenal. Stealth gameplay was no longer a necessity. It was an option. That annoyed me.

And a couple of other gameplay mechanics (such as the "over-the-shoulder" view) felt more akin to current-gen western games then what I've come to expect from this franchise.

I don't know. It just played more like Gears of War than MGS to me.

And don't even get me started on the story :o.

MGS2 was a masterpiece goddamnit :cmad:.

MGS2 was basically a trainings simulation of MGS1.

Which tied into the overall theme of the game. And was still unique enough to stand on its own, without being shrugged off as a simple MGS rehash.

Don't get me started on this, guys. My Bengals lost and I'm tired :csad:.
