That's exactly why I like that shot. That right there is people's kind of idea with Superman. That he is so perfect and can do anything us normal folks can't so how the hell can we relate to him? Well it looks like we'll finally get to see that here.

My sentiments exactly:highfive:

How the heck are you guys seeing trailers in IMAX? I watched TDKR on opening day and the movie started immediately with no trailers attached.

Let me answer that for you. He probably saw TDKR at a Super Terrible Fake Digital IMAX Lite (STFDIL) venue. They showed trailers there. Not at the true IMAX screens.

That's what I figured. Because all the true IMAX screenings had TDKR just start up immediately.

Off topic....but what is the difference between IMAX and IMAX lite. I have only seen one IMAX movie and I don't remember if it had trailers or not.

Real IMAX can have trailers too. But IMAX reels are only 2 hours 50 in length, and The Dark Knight Rises runs at 2 hours 45. So no trailers.

The biggest indication on IMAX or LIEMAX is the size of the screen. IMAX is much, much bigger.

Ahhh...thanks! The screen I saw was gigantic. That's all I remember. Hmmm...I never knew there was a difference. I will see MOS in IMAX, but I rarely go to the movies anymore.

I actually saw TDKR in a 'LieMAX'...and although it wasn't true IMAX...it still was one heck of a picture. It's two 2K projectors, but it is certainly a very crisp and vibrant digital projection...aside from size, it certainly looked to be at least a moderate step up from the 'regular' digital projections. But they still shouldn't be calling it IMAX or more importantly be charging IMAX prices for it. MAybe a little more as a 'deluxe' digital projection, and call is 'IMED'. :cwink:

But it was considerably more impressive in terms of pure picture quality than one would be led to believe comparing it as an 'inferior' misnomer for IMAX. It should be 'Digital Plus' and only a little more per ticket.

Agreed. I also like the fact that notas much of the field of view in the IMAX scenes is lost. No matter how careful Nolan and co. crop the IMAX images for the 35 mm version of the film, you are still losing the intended composition of the image.

Your avatar reminds me of my friend, complaining about Superman bumming for a ride, instead of flying. "does he not know he's superman? why doesn't he just fly, damn it" :whatever:

Now when Superman saves the common man, it will be from a place of raw experience. He'll have lived as one through and through, will understand where people are coming from, and that'll contribute to his character development. In turn, it also makes him more relatable to us (there's that old tired issue of whether or not Clark is relatable enough for the masses. Problem solved).

One dead give-away to a true IMAX screen is that the screen is more of a square and around 8 stories tall, whereas a LieMAX and other Digital Theater screens are more of a rectangle (widescreen).

'LieMAX' is basically just an enlarged 35mm/regular digital projection....same source and constant aspect ratio and all,. True IMAX means it's been printed back to 70mm projection celluloid and projected onto yes the full/tall screens...with the IMAX-filmed shots taking up the full height, and the 35/65mm done ones being fully wide but less tall.

Personally, I'm still not crazy about changing aspect ratios during the film, and even cropped down, just shooting the IMAX format still imparts a special clarity and quality to the shots. As far as what was 'intended'...the IMAX shots are ideally intended to be seen in the full-heoght format, but also framed when shot to still achieve their storytelling when cropped down to widescreen. So in that respect, he was still not taking exclusive advantage of IMAX since you didn't want to have vital narrative information that you knew was going to be cut off in the vast majority of viewing outlets for the film. Bu for the true IMAX venues that could show the entire frames, it's nice to have that extra level of 'scope', if you will.

I guess I'm lucky.lol

Course, having the trailer for "The Expendables 2" played with IMAX sound, especially when there's nothing but shooting and shouting..really leaves a impression on a fragile person's body.lol
You sure it wasn't LieMAX (digital IMAX)? Because it's my understanding that the the size of the 70MM film platters don't leave enough room for trailers thanks to TDKR's length. I've seen the movie on two different real IMAX screens, and they both started up the movie immediately. That, and I don't think they've even put out 70mm prints of Expendables trailers. LieMAX can pretty much feature any trailers they want.

The shot of Superman soaring into the sky is what makes it worth watching. Still not crazy about the Superman logo.

If that's the case, then I guess I was at a digital one.lol

Yeah even though it's digital IMAX now, we didn't have any previews to TDKR. We have a legit IMAX screen.

Curious if people had a problem with the use of the Khazad dum music with the teaser.... personally I loved it, and whereas before I identified with it only as having to do with Gandalf I can now identify it with Superman as well.

No, for me that particular piece always makes me think of Frodo with a tear in his eye. I cannot separate it because it is such a part of LOTR and really made that scene poignant.

I got trailers before my screening of TDKR at my local AMC. before the trailers showed a disclaimer came on saying the trailers weren't the IMAX experience. As for the movie it showed and sounded great. If it was "LIEMAX" it still showed and sounded great, and I don't mind lol.

Yeah, if it was AMC, it was more than likely LIEMAX (since I believe it was IMAX's deal with AMC that started the whole digital IMAX takeover in the first place), but it's still sold as "The IMAX Experience." And I agree, it looks and sounds great...if you're not used to the real IMAX experience, that is. :cwink:

where is a good place to get the real deal?

Anyone think they might do like an 8 minute preview like they did for Batman Begins?

What is the deal with that wing that appears in the air beneath him while he's flying at the end of the trailer? Granted I'm not an in-depth Superman reader, but I've read quite a few Superman books and I've never seen that before.

You know...i'm just going to say this. I thought the teaser did something in a short amount of time, that no other incarnation of Superman has done IMHO. It sincerely gave a very human element/quality to the character, than I have never seen before. Every aspect of it...from the LOTR music, the Narration, home movie and pictures of him as a child, the inner strength conveyed, to working on a fisher, and to me, the biggest of all, him hitch-hiking, when he really does not have to.

Those things, in that short period of time of a teaser remind you, has done more for me in really, whole-heartedly, wanting to see this film. This film may totally go in a completely different direction, with a completely different tone, but that teaser has giving me the hopes, that FINALLY, this is the type of Superman that I have been waiting for my whole life.
