Official New Avengers Discussion Thread!

I had an idea of a fanfic that involved Spidey gathering a group of like heroes to take Norman down. Norman gathers Spidey's rogue's gallery and turns them into a shield anti-spider-man task force. In the end Peter dresses up like the Green Goblin and attacks Norman at a press conference pretending to be Harry which causes Norman to snap in front of everyone and he gets removed as Shield head.

I had an idea of Dark Reign with John Walker being the main character involved in taking Norman Osborn down. :awesome:

Wow, that would of been an awesome ending to Dark Reign.

maybe I will write it ...it stemmed from an idea that One More Day didnt happen...Aunt May died and Peter and MJ are dealing with everyone knowing his identity and coming after him....Osborne toys with him. One of the cool things in my idea is that MJ isnt just sitting around waiting for Peter to get home...she becomes an active participant

Avengers Prime is a MUST HAVE for me, I've been dying for the Cap/Thor/IM story where they straighten their s**t out.

can they seriously just not keep characters out of the Avengers that don't belong in the Avengers? Spiderman should not be an Avenger. Wolverine should not be an Avenger. and now Ben Grimm? what the ****?

Hey like bendis said, they all owe luke cage, so they have to start a new avengers. Damn bendis, you just won't stop till I completely think cage is a *****e will you?

I don't see the big deal having Peter, Ben, and Logan in the Avengers. Sure, they aren't traditional, but its nice to see different heroes join. Although I could do without Logan, I do like the relationship him and Peter have going since becoming teammates. And having having the Thing in the mix could make for a good team book.

Eh, I just ignore 'em. Avengers is at least gonna feature mostly real Avengers, so it should be pretty easy to ignore Wolverine and Spider-Man.

My problem with Wolverine being on the Avengers is that first of all, he has no place in the Avengers to begin with. Someone who is the leader of the X-Men's assassination squad should not be on the regular Avengers title in the Heroic Age.

He doesn't fit in New Avengers because he lives in San Fransisco, the New Avengers, with the exception of Ms. Marvel, is a New York City based street level team, and while he fits with the street level team, he lives too far away for it to make any logical sense.

And if there is an X-Men that should be on the Avengers it would go to Beast or Iceman. Any other X-Man is unworthy of being an Avenger.

My problem with Spider-Man is that he's on both Avengers and New Avengers. Keep him on just Avengers. He belongs on that team and Avengers would really kick ass being the perfect blend of A-listers (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Daredevil, and Spider-Man) and B-listers (Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Hank Pym, Wasp, Wonder Man, etc.)

Yeah, I agree with you on both points, and like your line-up. It does bugs me that Spider-Man is in both titles, he should just be in Avengers and have DD replace him in NA.

Yeah, Daredevil should be on the New Avengers at the very least. But I'd really just like to see him as an Avenger for a short while, he's like the only major Stan Lee character that hasn't been on the team beyond just a few appearances.

To me the perfect Avengers line-up would have all the A-listers. While I often disagree with Mark Millar, I absolutely agree with him on why I like team books. With Justice League you get all the A-listers (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash), and it's badass seeing these guys team up and take names. So to me, the Avengers should have Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Spider-Man. Outside of the X-Men and Fantastic Four, these guys are Marvel's A-list.

But what makes the Avengers, better than the Justice League is that the Justice League roster feels too static. Outside of a certain set of B-listers (Aquaman, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, the Atom, Hawkman, Red Tornado, Elongated Man, Zatanna), it doesn't feel right to have other heroes step up to the plate and be a part of the Justice League. But with the Avengers, it feels much more comfortable to include more B-listers, C-listers, all the way up to Z-listers. But if I had to pick a certain set of B/C-listers I would go with Hank Pym, Janet van Dyne, Ms. Marvel, Wonder Man, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch and have all of the characterization focus on the characters who don't have a book. But honestly, unlike with the Justice League, I (and I'm sure others) would be totally open to other characters like Songbird, the Thing, Hercules, the Falcon, Justice, etc.

Daredevil is good the way he is. Him and Spidey would never be Avengers if I got my hands on a cosmic cube.

Daredevil I can understand, but what's wrong with Spidey being on the Avengers?

Eh, just my preference (kinda like your thing about no X-man being Avengers-worthy :argh:).

He works best solo, IMO.

Beast and Iceman are worthy. But the others are too *****ey (Cyclops, Wolverine, Angel, Emma Frost, Namor), dead (Jean Grey, Banshee), or really not interesting enough to be on the Avengers (pretty much everyone else).

He works best solo, IMO.
If I want a solo Spidey, I'll read Amazing Spider-Man :o

I always thought Colossus or Night Crawler would work as Avengers.

Iceman, Beast, Angel, Storm and Rogue would all make for cool Avenger prospects. Especially Rogue, her being in the Avengers would be very interesting.

But above all I want Jean Grey on the Avengers right after she comes back from the dead (Second Coming?). There's no reason for her to sit on Utopia while Cyke is still banging Emma. I have no interest in her hooking up with Wolverine creating soap opera drama for the billionth time between the 3 of them.

Spider-Man, Daredevil, and every X-Man save Beast would never be Avengers if I had my druthers. They've got their own successful franchises. I like the Avengers to have their own, distinct stable of characters.

Eh, for me, the Avengers should be an eclectic mix of successful Marvel characters with some lesser known characters getting their chance to shine amongst the big guys.

I never got people's aversion to having certain characters on the Avengers. The basis is always ''Spider-Man's too successful!" If we use that line of thinking we might as well remove Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man from the ranks.

agreed...its like the Avengers were pushed aside in favor of these characters.
