Oh and by the way, if you play the game, Venom absorbs Canon so his tenticles aren't flailing all over the place and he gains control over himself. He becomes complete and the giant white spider comes in. He is also much bigger, faster, and stronger.

I understand what you're getting at, but the Venom we see today is way too far off from the Venom we saw then.

Venom was originally just a hate-driven, evil Spider-Man. He lived to terrorize Peter Parker in every way. And while, yes, he was reluctant to harm innocents, it didn't stop him.

(In the church, he knowingly kills a guard...albeit feeling sorry about doing it.)

Somewhere along the lines, they made Venom's motivations so screwy that I couldn't even make sense of them. Because his innocence was supposedly "taken" by Spider-Man, he now lives to protect the innocent? That's so stupid. Hate is your motivation, Eddie - not compassion.

And of course, over time Venom just got bigger and bigger, and the tongue and drool got more and more exaggerated, and he started talking about eating people.

That's all well and good, but none of that addresses my questioning of you're disappointment over Marvel failing to restore the character's dignity. What dignity?

Hmph...I could've sworn that I've read multiple times that it isn't canonical. The two main problems with it being canonical are Silver Sable and Carnage.

Were it not for those two things, I wouldn't mind because it was a good story. But Silver Sable and Carnage interfered with forthcoming USM arcs featuring the same characters.

Sable's arc is before the game and the future Carnage is a Gwen Stacy clone and not a Peter Parker clone. There. Mystery solved.

As I said, Venom had dignity in those first two appearances. And clearly, he was popular enough to warrant so many returns. But they overused his character too quickly, and poor attempts to "revamp" him led to the disgraceful mess that we see today.

Yeah, you keep saying the character was dignified, but you're not explaining how. I'm not seeing it. At all.

That's fine. Not everyone likes every character. But when I read ASM 300, 316, 317, I saw a villain with a lot of potential. Potential, which I feel, has been wasted in modern comics (but then again, what didn't the '90's f*** up?).

I'll still hold out hope that Venom's return in USM will show me that character for who I am named. Because I most definitely not seeing him in The Ultimates.

It's an artist rendering. Joe Mad draws all his characters like that. He exagerates the hell out of anything. Chances are that The Hulk will be even bigger than this guy. Don't worry. You're Venom is still the same. Especially if Loeb is writing him.

There's some new Ultimates pages out...I haven't seen them in the topic yet, so I figured I'd throw them up.

MAD is a man among boys, but his Wasp is interesting...she looks a lot less Asian. Granted, anyone can change their hair color, even Asian women, but she looks pretty much like she does in 616.

I really hate the direction The Ultimates seem to be taking, especially with the art.

Forgive me but...

ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!?!?!

This art is ABSOLUTELY stunning! I've never seen better in a comic book.:heart::heart:

Joe Mad!!

Apparently not. My mistake. But they've always been on the fence about that issue.
Exactly.

I think there are some parts they want to keep and some parts they don't...I just think they aren't sure how to do that...

I think it will be something that, eventually, they'll just say "Well he got the spider on his chest in the game!"

Then, when someone says, "Bububu...Silver Sable!?"

They'll reply, "Yeah...well...oops? Next question!"

Haven't even read the first issue...

AND

dissing the best art in the biz?

I've never seen such poor taste!

Poor taste?

You're singing this art's praises, and you want to lecture us on poor taste?

Post any comic art against it and you will know this raises the bar!

BTW,

Who is that in your avatar? And where is it from?

I don't hate the art or anything, but the story is really what's bugging me. What I liked about Ultimates (vol.1-2) is that it went out of it's way to do something with Avengers that was relevant, in addition to being new and different. This seems to be Avengers EXtreme, nothing more than a redux of what's we've seen in the ninties with Heroes Reborn or in the 2000s with New Avengers. I much preferred the idea of Ultimates as a Government superhero strike force that was an extension of the American military than what's being previewed here.

Awesome art.

First helping out with the awesomeness of Iron and the Maiden, and now back on heavy art duties. Joe MAD! is back in the hizzouse.

...I only said it like that so that Spoons thinks I'm cool again. I'm trying to speak more in his language.

I can't see how someone can say this is the "best art in the business". I know it's "his style" and everything before someone points it out, but frankly, his style isn't worth my money. Everything is exaggerated and out of proportion to the point that it just looks comedic.

Also, I like the Jeph Loeb books that I've read, so I'm sure he'll deliver a good story, despite being paired with this Joe Mad guy, but it's not going to be the kind of story that I got into The Ultimates for. It just seems like they're turning it into this Saturday morning anime.

So are all comic books that aren't really political just rehashing what has been done the decades previous to it?

If you aren't a political book, you are just doing what's been done for the last 20 years...good deduction.:whatever:

If you want realistic, step outside.

Here's the best art in the buisness.

John Cassaday, baby!

Are you an idiot? That's not what I said at all. The Ultimate Universe needs to separate itself from 616 in some way to be meaningful. Taking the political element out of Ultimates makes it just Avengers, and thus removes any purpose the book had to exist.
