Ugh, that art is pretty hard on the eyes and I'm not really diggin' the heroes line-up either. It's also very disappointing to hear that Vol. 3 won't be as political - that's what made me fall in love with the book. I know we don't know much, but it's looking an awful lot like this book is going generic Marvel on us.

I just realised that. This sucks, why did they have to 616-ify all the characters? The hammer-axe mjolnir was one of the coolest parts of Ultimate Thor's design, now they've trashed that with the glowing chestplate, iron man has turned to the 'classic' colors, I'm suprised wolverine isn't in his standard yellow and blues.

Also, I'm wondering how soon this will tie into the ancillary series'. Wolverine and Sabretooth appeared to be at a temporary truce to find Wolverine's wife/sabretooth's mother but now he's been put on Bishop's team with no mention of that subplot, and is back in his old school ultimate suit in UXM, not his x-men suit shown here which would make less sense to where now that he's not associated with the actual X-Men. I hope this doesn't turn into 616 Wolverine where he' everywhere at once once the new Ultimate Wolverine solo starts too.

I'm wondering if Spidey joining the Ultimates is gonna happen sometime in the Death of the Goblin arc too. It would probably make the most sense considering Norman was in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody. Perhaps his escape could be the catalyst for Peter joining the team.

...Oh god. The main thing I liked about the Ultimate universe is that there isn't any contradictory crap like characters being everywhere at once. It's a pretty easy timeline to figure out. With Wolverine wearing different costumes and participating in multiple storylines though...

No, he left on his own after Xavier died. That and Cyclops disbanded the X-men so they're just a school now so Wolverine's with Bishop's crew apparantly.

I'm not totally sure on real world timelines, but could this "iffy" roster and the including of Spidey and Wolvie, and even Magneto, Venom, and Sabretooth on the villain side, coincide (as in, Ultimates 3 coincides) with the big Ultimate whatever plans they've been talking/dropping hints about?

If they did an Ultimate event that had some concrete continuity and crossover-ness, and it all made sense for, say, an arc or something, well, that wouldn't be so very bad.

Yes, this is my own hopeless wishing that Magneto's return will be well-handled and Kirkman won't plan it or take it up and ruin Magneto like he's ruined everything else in Ultimate X-Men.

There's probably more to this than meets the eye. I'm with y'all in hoping that Ultimates 3 gives us some new villains instead of using the X-Men's Brotherhood. They might just be using the Brotherhood as issue one fodder though...kind of like a way to reintroduce the team again via a big battle before getting into the meat of what volume 3 is about.

I'm such a MAD stan, that the 616ish makeover of all the characters doesn't bother me...I'm just excited to see him drawing Marvel characters again. Even though I can easily look past it, I would've hoped MAD would use Ultimates as an opportunity to really take some chances with some character designs.

I'm thinking, with Thor and maybe Valkyrie on the cover, that the weird chick with the hair might be someone like Ultimate Enchantress...? The others are pretty easy...Mags, Mystique, Multiple Man, Sabes, Blob and Venom.

Even though it's doubtful, anyone think the mystery blonde Ultimate could be Mockingbird? Just trying to think of other possibilities since Ultimate Valkyrie was that Defender chick...but then again, she was just using the codename and wasn't the real Norse thing. Would be funny to see an exhange between both women in vol. 3 if that is the real Valkyrie.

Multiple Man does look a bit like Gambit but I see there are two of him in the large version of the pic. Plus Gambit is dead as far as we know.

I still think that they should have gone for an Ultimate Masters of Evil, except simply called "The Masters" and with a whole white supremacist angle. The Red Skull, Zemo, and Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker organize such groups as the KKK and the Aryan Brotherhood into a major nazi/fascist guerilla movement called "HYDRA," withe The Masters being an inner circle of super powered enforces who's job is to counteract The Ultimates. The roster would be The Red Skull, Zemo, Von Strucker, Strucker's kids, Crossbones, Sin, Viper, Klaw, Mister Hyde, Venom (manipulated by the group, who play up on his obsession with killing Peter Parker), The Fixer, and maybe Batroc and crew.

See, that I like. That's an Ultimates-style adversary.

Except, these days, it could be general social comentary instead of a critique of the government and the military-industrial complex. Hell, the idea I proposed could be a critique of how we're so focused on terrorism in and from the middle east that we're ignoring plenty of home grown terrorists.

Pretty cool to see this match up. Another possibility could be Ultimate Spiral, since we saw her in UXM a while back. If this is following the stuff that's going on in UXM, where is Longshot? BTW, all of those guys are just Multiple Man. There are three of him there, hence Multiple Man.

Loeb: All that stuff is dealt with. The way Scarlet Witch is dressed the way she's dressed is because of her mother. You will meet the mother in Ultimates 3 3.3.

Loeb: Thor will play an enormous role. If you figure out who chick with sword is, that might explain more. Also a cornerstone of the volume with McGuinness.

What I meant is there are reasons that the hammer is different and such and its not just because of artistic preference....yet people got up here and started crying as if they knew that is was just artistic preference...

Interesting. I think the clues Loeb gave about sword girl and gun guy point to both of them being Valkyrie and Hawkeye, considering Loeb talked so much about getting Millar's blessing in regard to his use of the characters. It's still hard to believe that Ultimates 3 Valkyrie is the same Ultimate Valkyrie from the Defenders...I figured it might be Valkyrie, but I thought it was going to be the real Asgardian one. Hm, maybe Loeb will reveal that Defender Valkyrie was the real Valkyrie all along...disguising herself as a superhero reject...?

I like what I'm seeing and reading though. The foreshadowing to Ultimatum should appease those who want the Ultimate Universe to be a true alternative to 616 in reality and not just in advertisement. Sounds like some big changes to the status quo are gonna take place.
