His work on Ultimate Human is awesome. Thus, more Ultimate work.

No, no. His work on Ultimate Human is awesome. Thus, get him the hell out of that bull**** universe and onto a real Marvel book. :)

i havnt read the book yet, but all this talk ive been hearing about it makes me really dissapointed.

Give it a shot ... its good harmless fun and if you like Joe Mad then you will LOVE what you see.

He kind of sucks. The art's nice, but MAD would be better suited drawing posters than comic books.

I might have to ask to see your "Authoritative on the Subject of Posters and Panel Work and the Comics Medium" badge, sir, in order to put faith in that.

MAD isn't much of a storyteller and, hence, isn't really suited for comic books (which need to give the illusion of living and moving characters). The only badge you need is a pair of eyes.

Its high impact art.

It might not have natural flow but its still top quality.

It would be a complete waste of his talent to just work on posters and covers.

Yeah Ultimates 3 isn't very good, is it?

That whole Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver thing is sick enough but to just go out there and have Wolverine now be called James! I can't stand that!

Loeb seems to be intentionally overwriting this, but it's kind of week.

And Joe Mad is quite a talented guy, I think the Digitial Inking is taking awya from his pencils, the inks should accenuate, not color over. That's my opinion.

The only good panel has been the sex scene in the last issue, and it's just shadows.

Plus, it's a sex scene. There's only so many ways you can mess up on that topic.

I just picked up issue 3 to check it out. Wanted to make up my own mind on the way this is going.

I liked the art a lot. I agree with some of the other posters her, though, in that the story-telling is not quite up to snuff. But the panels are gorgeous IMO.

As to the storyline....I don't know yet. I think a lot of the issues are the characterization. It doesn't seem quite spot on for me, or enough. There are all of these new characters (new as in new to the ultimates) without much characterization. It made me think of when Millar and Hitch introduced the Black Widow and Hawkeye in that awesome issue back in Ultimates 1. You got this overview of the characters that Loeb doesn't seem to have going on. (like Black Panther. whats up with that guy?
[BLACKOUT]and yes, I think it's cap[/BLACKOUT]

And I agree...the quicksilver and scarlet witch thing is so sick....and logan being called james....is just weird. Wasn't the point that he didn't remember that? Isn't that why Cap surprised him in Ultimate war?

Okay....thats enough. Just wanted to share my thoughts.

The "thing" with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver has always been present. Millar hammered it into the first two volumes with a subtle hammer. Loeb just finally legitimized the previous subtlety. But everyone knew. There was no way not to know. And if you didn't know, what, were you under a rock, or hiding in a turtle shell? And no, it didn't work any "better" being "subtle," if it was really even subtlety. I dunno, being in a boat in Venice and holding onto your sister in a lover's pose ain't exactly subtle to me.

As for Wolverine being called James, I don't think The Ultimates ever called him Logan. I'd have to reread their meetings, but hey. Cap did tell him that's what his name was, all those issues ago of UXM. Why wouldn't Cap call him that? The X-Men have continued to refer to Wolverine as Logan, but that's them. They're also not The Ultimates. But I haven't read through the issue yet, so I can't really definitively answer this. I will, though.

Okay, it might have been suggested before, but are you saying that makes it less messed up?

what does that say about you? ;)

And I know that cap always called wolverine james. But why would he answer to that? EVER? he doesn't remember that part of his life, right? (if this has been changed in UXM, please forgive me, I'm not totally current on that).

I also thought it was weird that Wanda called him James in the savage land. I was under the impression that no one knew his history, except for people like cap or fury or wraith who knew him before. So how the hell does wanda know his real name, and why the hell is wolverine not surprised by this?

I never said it wasn't messed up. I'm not in the business of condemning the morality of comic book characters. Or the morality of any fictional character, really. Sometimes real people, but otherwise, eh. I couldn't care less. I'm more interested in understanding the why, really.

The whole James thing has never been fully elaborated upon. Consider this possible elaboration, no?

For all we know, James could've been an alias he used for some reason.

I'm not sure (how) that would work.

As for why he'd answer to being called James by Cap, well, Cap did tell him his name was James. Cap probably wouldn't refer to him as Logan. I suppose Wolvie could refuse to answer to James and not talk until people started calling him Wolverine, but that would be fairly childish, and more in line with Kirkman's characterization of the character.

So it's like when your old senile grandmother starts calling you by your uncle's name. You answer so as to not be a total ****.

lol ... spot on.

There's a few contradictory things going on here in Ultimates 3. Thor's got a 616 hammer, the 'James' issue, Jan is suddenly a caucasian redhead and now she looks more Asian again and a few other minor things. The Ultimates universe has slowly become as cliche'd as 616's and the sense of wonder at the originality is all but gone.

But honestly I don't care for 3 reasons: 1) X-Men & sPider-Man goodness, 2) Crazy Dinosaur action & 3) Joey Mad's gorgeous artwork. Say what you want about his "natural flow" but can you honestly read the big climactic fight at the end of Ultimates 2 and say Bryan Hitch's stuff was anymore coherent? I read that thing three times cuz I didn't know what the hell was going on. I read Ish#3 of Ult 3 3X because Joey Mad's women are sexy as f**********kkkkkk!!! I want his Valkyrie, Scarlett Witch & Shannah tattooed on me.

sPeaking of the latter, we're finally introduced to Ultimate Shannah & Ka-Zar and what look to be 2 Zabus in the gorgeous final panel! A nice reminder that the Ultimates Universe still has some surprises left in store for us. :)

BTW, is Ultimate Savage Land still located in Antartica? Because when Wanda conjured up all the dinosaurs, I noticed a distinguished looking Cryolophosaurus show up behind her. To non-dino-buffs, Cryo was the largest discovered meat eater discovered in Antartica. That's like a sign he was doing his homework. :)

^^in the ultimate 'verse, the savage land is an island in the south pacific, not in antarctica.

Dugan also called him , Lucky Jim Howlet, iirc.

I dont see how anyone can say they like Mad, then insult Leifield. They have about the same knowledge of anatomy, they both draw everyone overly muscled (Mad even moreso than Liefield here)...the only difference between them is Mad covers up his hackery with the classic Pat Lee trick of drawing a bunch of details on everything.
