I don't want to see Mir or Nog fight again. Would hurt my heart too much.

Okay maybe not Mir the guy has lost what 5 fights in a row now?

Yeah. But Nog is also broken. Both of them just need to retire. And I know Arlovski looked good, but once he gets knocked again, people will say the same thing. These dudes are just one-dimensional fighters and once they come into contact with someone that has that extra skill, they fold. I mean, the skill sets are so big step, little step in that division. Mir has great BJJ skills, but his wrestling and stand-up are C-grade. Big Nog's BJJ is the same way, but I guess you can give his stand-up a little more credit (lower his wrestling grade), not much more than Mir's though. Hunt is a powerful stand-up striker, but he isn't very versatile and he has developed some okay defensive wrestling, nothing to write home about though. Dos Santos is very technical, but has no gas tank, and okay wrestling.

Look at every other division though. Dudes are great in about almost everything. Heavyweights are too arrogant, I think. Except Velasquez. That dude kills it in everything, which is why he'll rule that division for as long as he wants to.

Weidman injured once again, title defence against Vitor postponed till presumably February 2015.

Weidman is gonna be a terrible champ. He'll only fight like once a year because of injuries, and trust me, the dude has the injuries stacked up. Especially when his knees are jacked. Awesome fighter, not gonna be very good in sticking to dates though.

Sucks to see Weidman hurt multiple times in a year. Hopefully he gets healthy without much strife. I think Jacare loses big too because he might have to fight twice before he gets a shot now, or fight once, and if he wins sit out a little bit.

Yeah, Jacare doesn't have what it takes to take some like Weidman out. Plus, I don't think Weidman has ever been 100% in any of his fights. But now since he's champ, he really doesn't have anything to prove. That's what happens when you get the belt. You start to take way more care of your body than when you are hungry, fighting yourself to get to be champ.

This isn't in regards to just Weidman in particular, but they need to start stripping fighters of their titles if they fail meet certain title defense criteria of like twice a year, once every six months.

MMA is a rough sport & the training can be just as rough & tough as the actual fight itself & thus injuries are of course regular, but it seems like way too often recently champions have had to be pulled from cards because of this injury or that injury.

Fighters have a duty to show up at their best, but they should also have a duty to look after themselves & to take care of just how hard they go in training.

Yeah, especially when UFC isn't in this for sport, they're here for the entertainment. I'd say if a champion misses 365 days, you better take the belt away. This sport is moving a million miles per hour! And people have short attention spans and I doubt most of the general public have no clue who Dominik Cruz is.

I think that Jacare would be a big threat to Weidman. Weidman is the better striker, but not by that much. Jacare would have the ground advantage, and he's solid at takedowns. I see how Weidman would be the favorite, but Jacare would be a live dog.

Edit: I also don't think that stripping guys of the title for long injuries won't do much. All it does is create a new champ that will be looked at as a paper champ since they never took the title away from the original champ. If it's something really long like Mir or Cruz it makes sense. Those guys didn't fight for years, and the division had to move on. But in the cases of guys like Cain, Weidman, and Pettis? Those guys are the clear cut number kings on the throne. They may be hurt, but the only way a guy should get their title is if they take it in the cage, or if they can fight in a calendar year. Anything beyond that we'll just have to wait. It's sports, so you gotta deal with injuries.

Apparently, Wanderlei Silva got a lifetime ban for dodging a drug test from the NSAC (even though he hadn't applied for a license). He left a long youtube video talking about retiring and trashing the UFC on the way out for being a 'freak show'

Agreed I'd say a champion would have to make a minimum one defense per year. Would love it boxing followed suit but that aint happening.

If they're injured and can't defend it just make them Champion Emeritus and have the #1 and #2 contenders fight it out for the title.

Oh, you mean the press conference brawl wasn't staged? Damn, Jones lost 50k and his Nike deal over it.

His shoes were ugly anyway. He isn't a good example for Nike.

Picks for tonight?

Mighty Mouse
Alvarez
Poirier
Romero
Zingano

Nevada commission reviewing the officiating from last night.

Big John officiated the Kennedy/Romero fight. Heard it was his first time refereeing in Las Vegas since 2007, possibly also reviewing the Herb Dean call on the McGregor elbow that may have landed at the back of the head.

That was a great event last night. Kinda funny to see a lot of people jump on the Cruz bandwagon though. People don't know what they got until it's gone. It'll be the same with Mighty Mouse once he's done. WEC really showed out last night. lol

Alvarez caught a bad break fighting a killer like Cowboy in his 1st fight. He's gonna need to learn how to use his legs if he wants to do well in UFC

155 is such a shark tank that about 8-12 guys could beat each other at any given night. Alvarez should be fine unless he gets too fat and happy or something like that.

Cain Velasquez is unable to defend his UFC Heavyweight Championship in Mexico against Fabricio Werdum, so the Interim Heavyweight Championship will be returning as Werdum instead faces off against MARK ****ING HUNT!!!!!

What's the reason for Cain's inactivity over the last few months?

Shoulder and/or knee.

Dana is gonna to talk to AKA and their trainers (including Javier). Something in their training methods are causing all these injuries. This goes beyond Cain. Virtually their entire stable has been 'injury prone'.

Mark Hunt as interim champion? Sounds good to me. Nothing wrong with more Hunt.

Cain over-trains and trains when he is hurt. He has admitted it. Taken from an interview last month:

http://espn.go.com/blog/mma/post/_/id/21156/velasquez-on-whether-hes-injury-prone-werdum

ESPN: All sports have athletes who, for one reason or another, can’t stay healthy. Are we there with you, yet? Do you think that’s fair or have you just been unlucky?

Velasquez: I really think it has to do with the way I train. If I’m hurt a little, I’m still going to train. I guess my head is pretty strong and I can push through pain, but it’s bad because it’s definitely messed up my body at times.

Velasquez has already had two knee surgeries. It's a recurring problem for him.

He's a workhorse in the gym. When fighters get older the wear and tear sets in. Velasquez isn't slowing down. That is the problem. Fighters are not listening to their bodies. Velasquez is a badass and he's a staunch worker, but that work ethic is what is keeping him from fighting more.

Fighters are killing themselves in the gym and as a result they are not making it into the cage.

Earlier in the year, he re-aggravted his shoulder. He's already had two surgeries on it. He's torn it more than once.

He's also had recurring knee injuries and two surgeries on it.

Cain Velasquez should be stripped of the heavyweight title.
