Oldman than took a moment to think about it some more, "Maybe we don't need the Joker. Because we'll have The Riddler." Yes, Oldman alluded to the fact that The Riddler may in fact be the next on-screen Batman villain.

When I asked if he, himself, wanted to come back for a third segment, he smiled coyly, "We don't really know if Nolan is coming back." He then shook his head. "I guess I have to come back." He then put his hand to the side of his mouth as if to hide the next line from everybody, "Nolan will come back for a third one. I think we all have to." It is well known that Oldman tried to get out of appearing in The Dark Knight, but his contract wouldn't allow it.

Next, I asked Christopher Nolan if he wanted to come back for a third Batman film, and he said that he wasn't sure that he wanted to come back, "I don't know. I take my projects one at a time, and I am not thinking about that right now. I don't know if I want to come back." After that, I asked, "If you do choose to make a third Batman film, do you think that you would recast for the Joker? Or will he not appear in the film?"

Nolan's replay, "I don't know. I honestly have not taken a moment away from what is going on with the film now to even think about that. I don't know. I simply don't know."

I really like how Nolan takes his time with his projects. He isn't rushing to figure out if/how he's going to do a third one. Thats why his movies are so great.

Wow. Riddler is pretty much confirmed and no one gives a ****.

Hm.

I don't think this realy confirms riddler. I'm sure they tossed the name around but that's not a definite. They should recast joker. Heath looks great but it's a character. I want as much joker as possible. When did oldman try to get out of being gordon is there a link.

Riddler huh? I can dig it:up: Seems like a villain thats's right up Nolan's alley. Hopefully Nolan comes back. Also I didn't know Oldman wanted out of the sequel. I do agree with his views on Joker recasting.

I like the Riddler. Nolan can probally do more justice to him that Shoebomber did in Forever.

Think of the viral marketing they can do with him  Now that would be something special.

I would prefer if they did Mad Hatter over the Riddler. Already seen the Riddler in live action, even if it was a joker-wanabe, but it was still mostly the Riddler. They need to focus on some new villains for the third movie. Ventriloquist would be a good secondary villain too, and he could be leading whats left of the mob after The Dark Knight.

If Nolan doesn't come back for a 3rd, I'm all for Burton returning and see where he would take the series.

Burton won't come back he's done with Batman.

As far goes for Nolan & Co I hope they return and will use Two-Face story in the third.

Meh its abit shame he got forced to act, i mean i like Gary Oldman alot and hes very good as Jim Gordon and overall an amazing actor, but i just dont like to see him being forced. :(

Yeah, well, I tend to overlook this particular board and see what happens...

The Riddler is kinda obvious choise... I mean, he is one of the villains who match perfect Nolan's vision of Batman's mythos (unlike Clayface, Man-Bat, Ivy etc.). However, despite this, I'm not sure how he can fit in as a grand enough threat. Especially after BB and (from what I've seen) TDK, in which Gotham is subjected to so much deadly destruction. Well, I suppose we'll wait and see, heh?

One thing that bugs me a bit is... how the hell Oldman knows who is gonna be the next villain, when Nolan says every time "I don't know, I don't think about it right now, When/If the time comes, then I will think about it, etc.". Unless, of course, there is some kind of an easter egg type of clue at the end of TDK like the Joker card in BB.

As for the thing about wether the Joker should be recasted or not, I say, leave him be only in TDK. No matter if he escapes/is captured and locked in Arkham/dies. IMO, in these series, this role should be only Heath's. Then, in the next reboot of the franchise after 10-20 years, we can have him for more than one movie for once :P

Joker is a character to be played by different actors, I don't think Joker role only be Ledger's that will be unfair to 70 odd year old character.

Hell I don't like recasts and I'm sad that Ledger died but Joker is DC character like Batman made his own name in comic world. Sorry I don't agree with your last bit post.

It's not so much about Ledger as it is for continuity. Because of continuity, if they recast him, they pretty much will have to chose someone who looks like Heath more or less, give him similar haircut, the same clothes and make-up, and the most important thing - he will have to try and imitate Heath. Not that all of this can't be done - it can and it's far from impossible. But what would be the point? To see just another 30-40 minutes of Joker screentime, as awesome they might be (or worse, just a cameo)? Why not bring new villains to the board instead? The Joker may be Batman's N.1 foe, but he is not the only one who is good enough to be in the movies.

Why didn't Oldman want to come back? That ****ing sucks.

And why would anyone want Burton to take control of this universe? He couldn't.

We need Riddler, Sionis, and Penguin... crap I forgot Two-Face as well... so maybe take out Penguin. I think we can forget about Selina... and I guess we are stuck with Rachel Dawes yet again. Kill her off in the third. Don't let me know if she already dies in TDK.

If the Joker is recast, it's going to put a heavy dent in my excitement over the third movie. I don't see what the big deal is with the Joker not returning. If Ledger were still with us, I'd still rather see more love go to the other Bat-Rogues - especially Riddler. As far as I'm concerned, Ledger has shown nothing less than an Oscar-worthy performance, and anyone who followed that would only be a disappointment. Furthermore, it makes 'willing suspension of disbelief' that much harder. For me, recasting the Joker is a bigger turn-off than getting a new director.

That said, if Nolan doesn't return, my excitement balloon will deflate just the same. In the unlikely event that Burton takes over, my excitement will cease to exist. I'd rather not think about that and just go on assuming that Nolan will return. Pessimism is not what I need this close to the TDK premiere.

I doubt that The Joker will be recast...

Why did Oldman want out of the film? Hmm. I hope he made a decent effort in TDK.

I want Catwoman in the next one, damnit.

i for one and am keeping my hopes in check until the riddler is officially confirmed. :o

It'll be hard for them to use Selina just because of how much the Catwoman movie bombed. However, I think if they do use her, it wont be a huge part, maybe just as a minor role appearing a couple times. Riddler would be cool, especially if he's done right, but I think it'd be cool to bring in a new villain that hasnt been used yet. Deadshot, Hush or someone who can give batman a good physical match would be awesome.

Deadshot is used in Batman: Gotham Knight animated movie so maybe might use him in the 3rd movie.

I don't really care about the next villains, because I'm interested in Nolan's vision of the Batuniverse. So, if he decides that, say, the Tally Man would be of good use in the next part of the story, I am ok with that.

Adding a bit on that, I think Nolan's more realistic vision of Batman has space for Catwoman, the Riddler, the Ventriloquist (although it has some similarities with Two-Face, but I believe Nolan could turn him into a very good character) and the Penguin, the way he is depicted today in comics.

But, anyway, just my opinion.

Oldman has wanted to retire... you guys know this. I mean he has been doing this stuff forever. I mean actors act I get that. But sometimes people just lose that fire earlier sooner than anyone else could have expected. It's not that he doesn't have it in him anymore. Batman will be his last long term comittment. Don't expect him in another major franchise or even an extended supporting player in other movies. I think he will be going to cameos and small supporting roles once this Nolan run is up. Not that I know what is going on in his head. But it's no suprise since we have known about that for quite some time.

Kind of ironic, isn't it? The Riddler was the villain (or at least one of them) in the third movie in the first series of Batman films and here he might be the villain in the third Nolan Batman movie.
