Also looks like it could be fake.

The original picture? That was from Dan Mindel himself, who has since deleted the post.. When blown-up and unclose, you can still read it as 'Karl Urban' (though pixelated) unless it manipulated afterwards by a troll.

Thought that was Nate Parker for a second there.

lower budget? The suit looks a lot cheaper.

Of course the budget is lower. It is probably a stunt suit, as I don't think it is practical to run around and jump in the suits they had in the last movie.

I think that they're trying to make him look more like Idris Elba did in the last film.

I wonder how much lower it is? In the end, it's movie about giant mechs vs monsters so you can't go TOO low.

I think filming in China and Aussie helps a lot though. I just wonder how the quality of the CG, and the universe building. I guess if the budget is lower, will it be apparent when we see the first trailer?

I think this is only a suit suit, and not the 'hero' suit. But it IS dramatically different from the suits we got from the first movie. Understandably, the original suits aren't very mobile.

Maybe it's just due to the lighting, the amateur photography, or maybe it'll get enhance it with CG.

Pacific Rim was on TV 2 days ago. i rewatched it. i hope they will have more battle on the ground outside the Jaegers. Just to make it more different. I think they showed almost every possible fighting/battle with the Jaegers and Kaiju. Maybe have one in daytime so that we can see everything. But it was set at night to spend less money on the CGI.

The talks of a lower budget occurred when GDT was actually going to direct Pac Rim 2. That being said, when he passed the project to DeKnight, that's when Legendary finalized their deal with Wanda, a Chinese company, and Pac Rim 2 was green lit. So it's just a number of things that could've changed during that window of time. Maybe the budget is lowered, maybe it's not and it's about the same as the first film, now with further tax cuts and Chinese backing.

I think the night scenes have more to do with playing with the lighting then anything. They didn't cover up the Jaegers, they lit them like crazy.

I want to see some new Jaegers.

Me too, for two reasons.

1. I thought the jaegers looked too clunky last time. More Boeing jet, less toy commercial
2. I want to see South Korea get one. Maybe Taiwan and Hong Kong too?

It's quite possible this sequel will streamline some things, but I doubt they will have Attack on Titans maneuverability.

Uh.. that's the game called Titanfall. And why would they have that much maneuverability? It's about 1/30th the size.

Yeah, I know and realize the size difference.
To be less restrained in getting into the cockpit, maybe have many more entry points this time. I also just figured if they're decreasing the budget, they might be able to downsize the jaegers, duplicate 3D rigs, so that you'd have more mechs to swarm attack a kaiju.

CG at night isn't cheaper. That's spying the logic of hiding practical effects. With making all the fights at night the means there were many different light sources that had to be calculated and rendered instead of just the sun. The Hong Kong neon light sources were especially cumbersome. If anything the choice made it more expensive, not less.

''Tull’s departure follows selling the company earlier last year to China’s Dalian Wanda Group for a figure in the neighborhood of $3.5 billion. According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, Wanda didn’t see eye-to-eye with his “management and recent projects such as The Great Wall and the currently shooting Pacific Rim 2.” In the future, Tull will work on the Tull Investment Group, “which invests in life science, media and technology companies,” according to a press release.''

Joe Paesano is the composer. Nothing in his catalog really stands out to me.

Ramin Djawadi's music was one of my favorite aspects of the first film. It is one of the few films of recent years to really approach giving different characters their own hummable themes.

Really disappointed to hear that he won't be back.
