Pacific Rim - Part 2

That kaiju looks like it has hallowed out cheeks with something stored in them. They look like silos, IMO. ORGANIC MISSILES?! YES PLEASE!

Looking forward to this movie! On a side note, any news on At The Mountains Of Madness movie?

Del Toro said it is basically redundant after Prometheus, and at this point it seems like he's moved on. After Pacific Rim he is continuing on with a Haunted House film at WB called Crimson Peak. That one has a cast and everything so it looks like its actually happening rather than languishing for years.

That's a real damn shame, it really is. Prometheus was visually stunning, but the script was awful. Oh well, one can dream right?

He should put it back on track. Prometheus was embarrasingly bad and he had casted Tom Cruise

Here's why they made the Jaegers in the first place...

(Edit) Oh and that's the new kaiju.

You know, that explanation for creating the Jaegers makes perfect sense. It's not about the how much damage you cause, but how much you can concentrate the damage to minimize casualties and destruction.

Also, it's less costly to just build something you can maintain and use repeatedly to take the Kaiju out instead of wasting billions and trillions of dollars of nuclear warheads on them. Like the above comic page and the latest trailer say, there's no knowing when and if the Kaiju attacks would ever stop.

I think it's cool but building a moving building still doesn't sound like the most logical approach outside of an anime.

There are a great deal more options.

Let's face it. If giant monsters of all varieties start attacking cities. There's only one way to retaliate. Giant robots. No two ways about it. :D

In all seriousness. I suppose tanks and jets with plasma based weaponry would work as well.

Not sure how well those would work given they were attempted in this story.
I'm thinking more along the lines of say constricting alloy netting or attaching huge shock pads to key areas of the creatures(the kind you find in the hospitals), getting everyone clear and flipping the switch....etc

Just seems like they didn't get creative enough before they got "too creative"

You're missing the point.

How are you sure the monsters wouldn't break out of this alloy netting? And how are you sure they wouldn't simply absorb the energy in these shock pads?

They didn't have time to keep testing different ideas that might fail, when the Jaegars seemed like the best immediate idea that would work with no repercussions.

They mentioned what they tested, I'm stated a few creative options they didn't test. I don't know if they would be able to break the netting. I do know that there are alloys out there that are almost unbreakable that are not called adamantium, I'm not talking about the steel cables that hold up bridges. If it could be molded into a net it would be a great start. Let's be honest here, what's more plausible in our world, what I just suggested for building a functional megazord?
If you really want to get narly, have the net be sharp too, the more tension applied the more flesh is then torn. I'm sure even Peta would have something to say about that.

Didn't have time to test it out? They had time to build multiple megazords...

As far as I know, most if not all multi celled organisms need a few key organs, if these organs are hit with say a harpoon attached to a power source with say, a city's worth of voltage at the other end...I'm not even sure anyone short of Superman/Thor and maybe the hulk could keep on keeping on. Then again, like you said, maybe they could absorb it.

The one good thing I read about the megazords is that they are dynamic, that's true. The fight can go several places and they can follow.

I'm fine with sci fi, but there is a diff between smart sci fi and transformers, I fear this is the latter...though I doubt anyone will admit it.

They are unbreakable to us and what we have, but would they be unbreakable to the Kaiju? We wouldn't know for sure, that's the thing.

Yes they did have time to build the Jaegars, because the Jaegars seemed like the next immediate option that would have more of a chance of working than the options you mentioned. They didn't have time go keep going back to the drawing board, checking off ideas that could possibly fail as they moved toward the Jaegars while the Kaiju continued to rip cities apart.

I don't think this is necessarily a smart movie, it's just fun with some intriguing ideas. But I also don't think it's 'Transformers' territory.

It's a pretty large next logical step. I can only imagine the trail and error involved in designing one of those things(apparently they are impossible to pilot)...

I'll just wait till I see the movie, I'm sure there is more to it than that. I for one hope there were a few more things attempted than just nukes.

As for unbreakable to the kaiju, physics is physics.

One thing to know (but I think you know it) is that the Kaijus are intelligent creatures, they have tactics, are sneaky, and pretty smart.

Meh...*****es be trippin.

Shaddup before I cut u.

I got a CHAIN SWORD

While building robots that size is a pretty much impossible task, and there may be easier or more logical things to do, but it seems like a large part of the Jaeger is really just symbolic aspects of it.

Building anything mobile that size seems like an impossible task.

Are there boats that large? Maybe space stations? Windmills maybe..

It has it's advantages, especially against a cunning enemy to be sure. It's just not "realistic" or rather logical imo. I'm most excited to find out how they power these things. I assume it's not oil/gas, as that would be an interesting political sub plot.

Steam powered would fit right along in the fantasy world they seem to have built.

Nuclear powered(which would just end up being steam technically) seems interesting if only for the ramifications.

Energon...as that would be TF

curious indeed.

Is Marvin bringing science into a Fantasy film?
No! Bad Marvin Bad!

Is it me...or are we getting something Pacific Rim related material once a day? Today is the banner. Yesterday was the comic page scan. And I think the day before that was the featurette.

^
That's been the case for past few months. Whether it be news, images or trailers Etc. Every week day.

The place to classify this is Science Fantasy. Comparable to the science in Godzilla,Ultraman and whatnot. I don't see why you're getting so worked up over this.

I'm not worked up, I'm just curious actually.

Jet fuel, that's probably the answer.
