I love the Elba speech, it's so defiant! "Oh, Nature thinks it can wipe us out with an apocalypse? Well, WE'LL CANCEL THAT ****!" It's so cool.

I agree that the movie looks much more appealing now.

I think that with the assumption that there was 99.999% that they weren't showing, it's ALWAYS looked this cool, right from the 1st trailer. This new stuff is just more from the same vibe that was there from the get-go.

I thought this movie would have marketed itself. It's cool looking robots vs cool looking monsters. I can't imagine how jacked 12 year old me would have been for this

If they make a sequel, would they call it Atlantic Rim? :woot:

I'll be shocked if this turns into kind of a sleeper hit of the summer. I suspect it'll do something like maybe Star Trek numbers if that. On the lower end of the scale, Lone Ranger.

I'll gladly take Star Trek numbers, in fact that would be a huge win for it.

Did you forget how well Trek did domestically?258mil domestic is not easy to get. It should be seen as somewhat of a win if the movie does like 175-190mil. I'm not too worried about overseas numbers because I think that asia will help it do at least decent numbers.

^ Del Toro should've copyrighted it first! :cmad: :o

You must have been one of the few seeing how cool it looked early on because I hated the first trailer. I found it deeply unappealing. The original vibe I got was a cheesy, dumb mess of a movie and the vibe I have now is decidedly not that. I now know what the movie is heading for and it looks good, thank god. Not introducing us to the characters and the world sooner was a stupid move by the studio. Period.

I personally like the first trailer, but this latest stuff makes the film look a whole lot better.

Considering this thing cost about 180 mil, it may have to do around that range.

We'll see if he was actually able to follow through and take his own advice but in his introduction to the Pacific Rim prequel comic, Travis Beechem really shows that he knows about effective world building and why zeroing in on character driven ground level perspectives found in things like the original Star Wars or Blade Runner, work far better to create the feeling of an expansive world than trying to explain every little thing with birds eye view exposition.

Man I really hope the film has some kind of flashback or something to the first Kaiju vs Jaeger battle because the Kaiju called Karloff from the comic is a fantastic design and aptly named.

That was one of my favourite parts of the graphic novel.

That prequel comic was pretty damn good. I've always had high hopes for the movie but its readily apparent that Beechem really how to tie in character conflicts into the overall humanity vs giant monsters conflict.

I will watch this movie just for Charlie Day.

If Jaeger pilots used day-planners, I imagine this is what it would look like.

Karloff is NOT in the movie (didnt see it but I know this from the art book), he does look awesome but Del Toro says in the art book that they dropped the design from the movie because it was just too weird as he has a second mouth on his chest, he says it was too bizarre and unnerving.
