Pacific Rim - Part 3

Not huge, but Blade 2 was a sizable box office hit for its time.

No offense but I don't care if you liked Hellboy 2. I mean that's neat if you did I guess but I was solely addressing my opinion of the film. I wasn't implying that no one is allowed to like the film just because I hated it. And since I'm a fan of the director obviously I think he has mostly delivered in the past. I mean duh, how many times can a girl say she is a fan? Would I be a fan if I thought he only made bad films? For goodness sake I'm seeing this movie almost exclusively because he directed it, lord knows it's not the marketing bringing me in.

No offense... :whatever: but that's maybe one of the most ignorant responses I've gotten lately. You just expressed your own opinion, and when someone replies with his own you reply with "I don't care what YOU have to say"? Why are you even posting on a forum when you don't care about what others have to say?

The soundtrack is out for sale today. I have not heard any "reviews" on it yet.

Rather than bickering about 5 year old movies,

Check out the Pacific Rim theme featuring Tom Morrello!

No bickering, man. I'm in no way offended when other people have different opinions than mine. But one should have to know how to behave in relation to other people. But, well...

Let's get back to Pacific Rim; theme's sounding good. Ramin Djawadi delivers when paired with talented directors and interesting movies (ie. Iron Man's soundtrack, which I think is underrated).

You think the critics are going to give Rim bad reviews? I'd be shocked if Rim got under an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics love Del Toro, no matter the quality, it will get a pass solely based on that. I really like Del Toro and just hope this isn't another Hellboy 2. A movie I find to be virtually unwatchable.

Seriously, I just don't see an under 80% rating. Maybe I should get ready for a surprise?
I do, think they will. I'm a big fan of Del Toro and I'll be seeing this in the theater. I'll probably like it but I'm not going to enjoy it just because it's Del Toro. I've seen a few of his movies I don't like and I can say it without deriding the movies themselves. They just weren't to my taste in those instances. To me, this has "critical panning" written all over it. It's sci fi, with giant monsters and robots. It's the kind of things critics love to bash.

As to critics, there are plenty of movies that get panned by them which become huge hits in the box office with the general audience and as I typically see the response to this it is always "well the audience has no taste."

There are also plenty of critically praised movies that totally sank at the box office but the audience is again looked at as being too simple or fickle to like them. So the critics are the "taste deciders" and the audience is just easily pleased? I don't see it that plainly. Sometimes a movie is bad to critical standards but otherwise is good because it was enjoyable which should be the standard.

That is a disconnect to me. If a movie fails one or the other (critical or box office) then who is right? Personal opinion suddenly goes out the window.

Oh some Hellboy 2 fans never change. For 5 years I keep reading how much I should like Hellboy 2 over Hellboy and nobody ever just realizes that my opinion doesn't dismiss their own in anyway.

No, your outright, literal dismissal of his opinion dismissed his opinion.

Where did I tell you should like Hellboy II over the first one? I don't know your... 'history' with 'Hellboy 2 fans,' so if there's any baggage, that's none of my business. But if someone expresses his opinion and your answer is "I don't care about what you think about it" then you should consider talking to your walls instead of interacting with other people. Get it?

Hugs all around.:D Lets get back to Rim.

I didn't realize Djawadi scored this. Another reason to see this film.

There aren't going to be any damn hugs but I'll drop it, only because I don't feel like arguing anymore and I have enough of these type of arguments with obsessive Nolan fans to last me a lifetime. I'm not going to go back in time any longer. I was talking about Rim's marketing, potential boxoffice and reviews and those are things I'll continue to talk about.

Lets how the Jaegers and their pilots have more fight then SPIDEY these days. Otherwise mankind is in trouble. :funny:

On a side note, I think SPIDEY is the first person I have met that doesn't like Hellboy 2. I personally love it. Better then the first imo. I also don't thin GDT gets a free pass from the critics. It is just that all his movies are awesome. Hopefully Pacific Rim will continue this trend. :awesome:

"Well that escalated quickly." You don't want a hug? Hugs are awesome. Well for about a second then they are awkward, but ill be real quick about it. Come here! *runs at Spidey arms wide*

I hope that clip from The Late Show is the first of many. This is usually when studios start releasing clips right? Bought a week or two before the movie's release?

I'm fine with no hugs.
We're not arguing for our lives here, Spidey. Cool down.

I saw it, aswell. I'm not usually a 'clip guy,' but I was watching "Late Night" on Italian TV, so... Idris Elba has quite a presence in that clip! Looked good. And I was quite surprised they didn't opt for the "Let's cancel the apocalypse" scene.

MoS didn't ramp up until 2 weeks before, PR isn't at 2 weeks yet so I'm still optimistic.

I can't smile without you!!!!! :)

Pacific Rim looks great, but the buzz just isn't there.

It's disappointing. Here we have an exciting big action movie made from an original idea and script. Yes it's high concept and giant monsters vs. giant robots is hardly a new subgenre. At the same time, its a bit of an obscure subgenre.

But if this movie fails, it will discourage studios and financiers from getting into similar projects which is disappointing.

But this is one of the few big summer movies that's not a sequel. It's not a remake. It's not a book. It's not based on a comic book. It's not based on an old TV show. It's not a reboot. But it's still a big investment and if it fails . . . oh boy :( .

Any failure falls on the marketing and its lack of thinking outside the Internet geek circles. From the start, they have done nothing but aim for that dollar; a foolish call since they have that money in the bag. Can't blame your little sister or your mom for not being interested if they're not even putting an effort to get them interested.

What I'm going to say... Honestly. It's not popular. WB has given up on Pacific Rim. It was always more of Legendary's thing. They put up 70-80% of its costs. Since they are in the midst of a nasty public split, they are clearly saying, "You know what? This was always YOUR thing anyway. DEAL WITH IT!" and wiping their hands clean.

And since Man of Steel and The Great Gatsby are big hits and The Conjuring has the buzz to follow suit, they can afford to. But mostly because they just don't care. Have nothing to gain from Rim anymore. Why bother.

Sounds like that doesn't bode well for Seventh Son coming out later this year.

I'm nauseous...

Its not so much a desire for sequels, quite the opposite, I'd really hate to see this movie be held as an excuse for the endless wave of reboots and sequels. At least GDT's next film is already set up and cast.
