Pacific Rim - Part 3

Lets how the Jaegers and their pilots have more fight then SPIDEY these days. Otherwise mankind is in trouble. :funny:

On a side note, I think SPIDEY is the first person I have met that doesn't like Hellboy 2. I personally love it. Better then the first imo. I also don't thin GDT gets a free pass from the critics. It is just that all his movies are awesome. Hopefully Pacific Rim will continue this trend. :awesome:
GDT didn't get a pass on "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark". That movie wasn't very good at all.

GDT didn't direct that film. He produced it, helping a first time director get the film made. Similar to Peter Jackson with Neil Blomkamp and District 9.

Its not so much a desire for sequels, quite the opposite, I'd really hate to see this movie be held as an excuse for the endless wave of reboots and sequels. At least GDT's next film is already set up and cast.

Me too.

On the bright side, if WB has wiped their hand of the film and it takes off Legendary has a potential franchise , and WB eats crow.

Troy Nixey directed Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.

I don't hold any of the films he's produced against him. Mama and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark aren't great, but he didn't put any of his style into it. With the exception of Mimic he really hasn't made a terrible film.

I see a lot of Del Toro in both Mama and Dont be Afraid of the Dark. The end of Mama and nearly the entirety of DBAOTD are oozing Del Toror. The tooth fairies in DBAOTD are nearly identical to the ones in Hellboy 2 and that's just the start of Del Toroisms in that film. The dark imagery, the fairy tale nature, the cinematography, the main character, the designs etc are Del Toro through and through.

I was actually wondering what could happen if PAC RIM doesn't do well at the box office. Crimson Peak is also Legendary production. Could/would they pull the plug?

Perhaps, though that would be pretty awful. That movie isn't a giant budget kind of project though. Given Thomas Tull's enthusiasm and the way he treats filmmakers, I seriously doubt that would happen.

True. And I remember reading that Universal has an option to co-finance or something.

Be thankful we got this movie and be happy. If this film is good then we still have a good film regardless of box office and sequels.
Very, very true. That we have this movie at all is a small miracle.

And its existence really comes down to the enthusiasm of the filmmakers, from the writers, to the director and ultimately Thomas Tull who has spoken out about how he want Legendary to be involved in the types of movies that he's always wanted to see and had the company go all in on this project.

I know, and believe me, I am. It's just, as a fan of the universe and what not, you want it to do well, that isn't bad right? Being a fan of something, you generally want to see more of it. If it's a movie, you hope the box office is good enough to get more. Be it a sequel, or whatever else.

Regardless if PR's box office does numbers, I am happy it turned out the way it, few are more excited than me.:woot:

There isn't, but I've always found BO discussion kind of weird against fans and casual goers that usually post here. I mean, you know, everyone is free to discuss what they want, but BO really means nothing to me as long as the quality of the films are good.

Unless you're a shareholder. I could understand why you'd want to talk about the BO intensely. But again, everyone has their own interests and ****.

We as fanboys feel we have a personal stake in our beloved films, that's why. Go figure. Me personally i actually do own a couple shares of a studio that I bought a while back when I saved enough cash to do it, so....yeah.

I only care about BO to the point of will they make more.

I haven't seen either of the Hellboy movies, but I have seen Pan's Labyrinth and I just didn't enjoy it at all.

I'm getting a bit of a passive aggressive tone from this post. Not sure if intended, but to be clear, I am not bashing talking about BO. Just, for me personally, it's never a factor I think a whole lot about outside 'hey, I like this, I hope it does well.'

That movie's not for everyone. I like it depending on my mood. I showed it to a friend and he loathed it.

Any failure falls on the marketing and its lack of thinking outside the Internet geek circles. From the start, they have done nothing but aim for that dollar; a foolish call since they have that money in the bag. Can't blame your little sister or your mom for not being interested if they're not even putting an effort to get them interested.

What I'm going to say... Honestly. It's not popular. WB has given up on Pacific Rim. It was always more of Legendary's thing. They put up 70-80% of its costs. Since they are in the midst of a nasty public split, they are clearly saying, "You know what? This was always YOUR thing anyway. DEAL WITH IT!" and wiping their hands clean.

And since Man of Steel and The Great Gatsby are big hits and The Conjuring has the buzz to follow suit, they can afford to. But mostly because they just don't care. Have nothing to gain from Rim anymore. Why bother.
What's odd about the marketing is, I'm a nerd and I'm not excited by what I've seen. Now I have more of a chance liking it than not considering the only Del Toro movie I flat out don't like is HB2, so I suspect I'm going to think it's at least decent.

Somebody brought up the same point about Warners not caring (sorry, I can't remember who). And when you look at the fact that WB didn't put nearly as much cash into the film and they are splitting with Legendary...it's getting harder and harder to believe that they do care.

Well whoever is behind it is sucking so far. We've had the same footage over and over.

This. Its both troubling and possibly good. On the one hand, there is a lot we haven't seen. On the other hand what we haven't seen could be complete **** hence why it isn't being shown. The latter possibility doesn't instill confidence in the masses.

What I would love to see is more character interaction. We have almost, and I stress almost, too much kaiju and jaeger footage. My thirst for more I satisfied enough to want to move on.

The Edge trailer, and the clip from The Late Show really worked on me wanting to see more characters. I'd like to see scenes of dialog with Raleigh and Mako. Do they get along? Or are they going to bicker and disagree with each other? Things like that. I wanna see more of that.
