Would it be that surprising if WB doesn't care to market it as much since they know Legendary is leaving them and taking Pacific Rim with them. Any sequels wouldn't really matter to them. Not putting on my conspiracy hat or anything but just saying it sounds plausible.

Maybe, but you'd think it would be too late now and they'd only be shooting themselves in the foot. They still make money when PR makes money.

They've had the same footage going for a few months now, I want new stuff!

I'd be surprised. They could still work with Pacific Rim in terms of franchises with WB while developing franchises for the others.

I don't personally have much faith in Pacific Rim doing well as a movie. It seems like it lacks any real story to it. Is there anything actually good about it? It looked like 2013's "Battleship" to me.

People have been comparing this to Power Rangers a lot. They should have gone that route, and made a Power Rangers movie, at least it would have had the nostalgia factor going for it.

Well, first off, Battleship had two things going against it: Contrived licensing and an uneven director. From its conception, it was dumb, and not the fun type of dumb.

Second, sure you can do a Power Rangers film but in a world where we get bombarded by reboots/remakes and adaptations, it's nice to see an original title with Pac Rim. It's about taking a beeping risk once a while instead of being complacent.

And I think that's a good thing Pacific Rim has going for it. People will go into the theater expecting one thing, and come out having their previous assumptions blown away.

Still got 3 weeks to ramp it up, but if tracking isn't any better. I think good word of mouth will help.

The competition after release is fine but the one before could be a problem. I'm expecting Despicable Me 2 to be a monster hit and that's not to mention all the other movies.

Either way, I'm gonna do my part no matter what. I've been asking several family members and friends if they want to go to a midnight showing with me. Unfortunately, it looks like I may go alone. But I don't care, alone or with a group, I'm doing a midnight showing.

Though the some of the people I asked can't go, they are interested. My sister and her boyfriend are into ALL kinds of films, Pacific Rim is no exception.

I lived with them for a month, and showed them all the new trailers, pictures, and images as they came, and they got interested. So there's a win.

Good word of mouth is great but the movie still needs to open well. Good word of mouth with a 30-35mil opening in the summer is only going to add up to 120-150mil unless the movie is just an A+ to 90% of the people who see it. I'm not sure what the budget is so I don't know what kind of opening it needs and I don't know if 120-150mil would be a good enough gross for it. I mean it has a great release date so one would expect a pretty damn good opening weekend. Despite still not loving the trailers I'm rooting on the film to be good first and foremost and a hit only because I want more original films. I'm not getting the money so there are only a few reasons to want a film to be a hit.

Budget is around $200M. This movie needs to pull in around $500M WW for a sequel.

I'll do my part , but my expectations are low for this film to be a big hit. It could be the next big thing for IMAX showings though. So that will help.

Thanks for the budget info and then I Googled it of course to see for myself. Why did I keep seeing people imply that the budget wasn't as huge as people thought? 180-190mil is a huge ass budget. Anyway I don't even remember where I heard or read that. I suspected the budget had to be huge for it to get Warners TDK/Inception slot. I'm sure it will have good reviews on it's side as the critics love Del Toro when he isn't directing a Blade sequel or a killer mutant bug movie. It's going to need an opening in the 60's and good legs with that kind of budget though.

Budget had to be huge just by hearing the concept of the movie. Giant robots fighting, fighting monsters.

The latest trailer shows their starting to go in a more subtle approach.

And...Considering I have both the draft of the script and the graphic novel...I can safely say that this isn't ****ing battleship. So boo who.
