Pacific Rim - Part 3

ITA. I barely know what words like kaiju and jaeger mean but I see them used here and on other boards all the time. That right there is a sign of the disconnect between the fanboys and who they need to be concentrating on: the general audience. I was watching tv with my sisters and my cousins and a tv spot for this came on. They asked "Is this another Transformers?" The powers that be need to do a better job of advertising ASAP.

Did you see the second theatrical trailer? Their definitions are pretty clear there.

Kaiju = Beast

Jaeger = Giant mecha

That's for the movie's universe. As for what they mean IRL. Jaeger mean hunter in German, and kaiju means beast in Japanese.

Seriously, how hard is it to look up something on google after seeing or hearing about it?

well just because someone can google something it does not mean that they actually will. A family member of mine did see one of the tv spots and thought it had to do something with Transformers. Even when I explained what is was they still did not understand. IMO they should have hired whoever did the marketing for IM3 to do the marketing for this film.

By they way Brolly where did you get the footage for your cool avatar?

Your family member isn't the the sharpest knife in the drawer are they? How hard is the concept? Kaiju (monsters) come through a dimensional tear and wreck our ****. We build jaegers (giant mechs) and wreck the kaiju's faces.

I do agree that at least one big name is needed to get more people in seats.

If they do a sequel, they need to cast some really talented, big-name stars in some roles to bring in a bigger audience, like Christian Bale, Javier Bardem or some other currently famous actor.

Hell, they can even cast Jennifer Lawrence. That seems to work wonders. :woot:

It's from the Jaeger featurette released a few weeks ago.:cwink:

And no offense to your family, seriously. But even if the average movie goer can't distinguish this from Transformers, then they aren't paying attention...at all.

Transformers does not have giant monsters destroying cities. It's REALLY not that hard to miss.

not the nicest thing to say and easy to say on a message board. If someone does not care for the genre or does not pay attention to movies like people here on this site do then they may not care to see and hear what the spot says. Also not all the spots explain everything. Dont appreciate you making out my family member to be stupid either. Did I ever say anything like that to you?

well not everyone out there likes this genre so they may not want to pay attention. I am kind of like that. Because Roland Emmerich directed White House down is the reason I will not see it even though I like Jamie Foxx.

I'm gonna guess it was a close family member. I mean if you said what I posted and they still don't get it there is something wrong there. Its like 2+2=4. And I hardly called them stupid. I said they weren't very sharp. Perhaps a better phrase would have been willfully dismissive of the concept. If its not their thing then cool. I can respect that, but there is no way a competent person can watch a spot for this film and not grasp the concept.

I think some people may become to dismissive. That new extended spot based around Pentecosts' speech should become the last new trailer and be attached to every film possible starting this weekend. What I saw there could really help filmgoers that might think its another dumb film like TF.

I smell a flop...
there is only one trailer and it sucks because of the cheesy and stupid dialogue. today we face the monsters that are at are doors,really? :whatever:
what they should do is put out two more trailers - one that focuses on the humour and another one that focuses on the blonde guy because let's face it, the only way they will get female butts in the seats is if they show that the movie has a good looking lead

the house at the end of the street disagrees :woot:

There's 3 trailers, 3 featurettes, and even more TV Spots.

Do you homework buttnugget, you smell like the IMDB forums.

Actors make mistakes. Big whoop.

And I can guarantee you that even just a few years from now, people aren't even going to remember that piece of crap film.

Why did none of you inform me that Ramin Djawadi was scoring this?!

I NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS! :cmad:

I know right? For a few moments before finding that out, I was actually looking forward to the score for this movie :o

You shut your goddamn mouth and go listen to some GOT score! :argh:

I don't wanna rustle any jimmies here, but I have heard some of the score, and while good....I like the music from the trailers more. >.>

I am aware the music from the trailers is not part of the OST.

Score sounds good and sounds like it'll fit the action/tone :word:
