Pacific Rim - Part 3

Way too late with the marketing, that's the thing. This honestly could be a goldmine of a franchise for WB if they pull it off right, but we'll see what it does come next week.

Thing is, it's not really WB's, hence why they put less muscle behind this one. This is more Legendary's picture, and Legendary is splitting with WB.

Was going to write this, and then you do. But yeah, exactly. With the split, WB has no reason to do them any favors.

This was the guy all over the tracking numbers for Into Darkness. But because he loves GDT, suddenly none of that matters.

Yeah, he is one big hypocrite.

What did he say about STID tracking? I don't recall anything but him talking about who Harrison would be.

I'm curious about what he said as well and I'm also wondering why he gave summer box office predictions on camera if he doesn't care about box office numbers in any way?

I am not going to go through a lot, but here is one example of him talking about tracking and using it as a part of his argument.

I've long argued that the mystery box is a terrible way of selling a movie, and the latest Star Trek Into Darkness tracking numbers bear that out. The film, two weeks before opening, is showing only 9% of people have it as their first choice for moviegoing that weekend. The movie will likely open, but the opening weekend estimates have been steadily dropping. All the while the film's true villain - the real hook for Star Trek Into Darkness - is kept out of all the marketing. I know there was a move to reveal him during March Madness, but that never happened. Will, in the face of bad tracking, Paramount opt to spill the beans in the coming weeks?

If it doesn't matter, why bring it up? Oh, that is because he doesn't like a certain film or director. But we can't beat GDT with that same stick.

One thing this film has going against it in the marketing dept is that this image alone looks like the second act from Hellboy 2, cool for me, not so cool for the people that didn't bat an eye at that flick.

Toss the Perlman element in there and the GA's response is very predictable. I love this movie's concept(I spent hours roaming around their cool little site the other night) but they are selling something here that screams niche. At this point I'm just kinda curious which of the hellboy film numbers it's going to do. Given the big release date it might do more but then again it's got some major competition in that spot. Most likely going to open at number 3 if it's lucky.

I seriously doubt anyone from the GA has noticed that Perlman is in this movie or made the connection to Hellboy.

Very true. I can't stand Devin. Never have. He comes off unprofessional in his attitude constantly. Regardless on certain films if I've agreed with him or not, his attitude is just poor.

If you try to call him on it though he'll just complain that you are just being narrow minded and don't understand the concept of "developing opinions" You can't win with him.

Oh, I know. Which is why when ever anyone brings him up in argument, they have already tuned me out. I can't take you seriously.

:funny:

So true.

lol I remember that stuff now.
Yeah, classic Faraci.

Between this and his annual mid summer what's wrong with the nolanverse column(post nolanverse film), he's definitely living up to his name. I can't wait till the Avatar train rolls in come 2015.

He's been in all the trailers no?
For me he has this look that just convey's Blist with his presence. Sucks too cause I like him lots.

Don't you know Darth? A JJ. Abrams film is a different story. Devin hates Abrams with a wild passion, he acts like Abrams banged his girlfriend or something. He can't think straight when it comes to Abrams. I understand, I'm the same when it comes to hardcore Nolan fanboys but at least I admit it.

Pacific Rim's tracking is fair game and so is talking about it's 80% fanboy focused marketing strategy. Some people think that it's dumb that the marketing has been so fanboy focused, just like some think that the mystery box marketing gag Abrams imploys is dumb. It's the same goddamn thing.

If he hates Abrams, what in the world does he feel about Nolan?

And I agree marketing is fair game. Pacific Rim's doesn't even feel like it is trying. Remember me on the MoS boards? And I also agree that judging a film on its Box office is downright stupid. But then again, I don't change my argument to suit my agenda.

OMG, the childish lunacy that went on over Into Darkness was ridiculous. They made a marketing blunder. BURN THEM!!!! :argh: :whatever:

lol I don't know what he feels about Nolan. His feelings seem more complicated because he did really like TDK and loved Inception. I think he more so hates his fans. I think he likes Nolan as a filmmaker way more than Abrams actually. Even with all his baiting articles and *****ing.

And of course I know you aren't being a hypocrite about this marketing talk. Yes, judging a film based on it's box office is the dumbest thing ever and I dismiss anyone's opinion who does that.

How many whining articles is Devin going to write if Rim pulls a White House Down? He wrote a few for John Carter.

You are not even close to joking. I do love people who did not like the movie using the marketing as a big mark against the movie though. As if it had anything to do with the actual quality of the film.

Personally, think they shouldn't have hid that certain aspect. Think it would of helped with the box office. But that doesn't effect my enjoyment of the film one iota.

The Kaiju featurette looks fu cking amazing, **** yeah, this is what I want to see, how can you not be interested by that? Man, bring it Del Toro !
