Pacific Rim - Part 3

Because the "mechs" can transform and the monsters look like Godzilla.

Give me a ****ing break.
Pretty sure you're taking it too literally since that is the impression the general audience has. When I have to convey this to someone who doesn't know what I mean, this is literally the example I give them so it's relatable to their perspective. Obviously it is not Godzilla vs Transformers but that means little to anyone not you. Being defensive of it won't make audiences see it your way and the stubborness to not care what they think only guarantees this movie will flop if you can't attract the more casual audience to see it. No general audience, no success. No success, no sequels.

Dammit, had a code for some tickets sent to me, but didn't see the email until 3 hours later. Missed out.

Is it even accurate in terms of tone though? Have you considered that thats really not the best way to describe the movie? Hell describing it as a more internationally focused Indpendence Day is likely a better description.

Whats him being green screened onto a set they presumably filmed on? By the way, I heard the set for his labe was crazy extensive even though most of it goes almost unseen in the film, kind of like the Troll Market.

Then people think of Will Smith ("Welcome to Earth/Earf") and Jeff Goldblum (defeating an alien computer with a Mac and simple virus) fighting aliens from space, and Randy Quaid going "up yours!" as he flies up the space ship that's about to kill everyone not giant robots versus giant monsters.

When you say giant robot, the general audience thinks Transformers. When you say giant monster it's either Godzilla or what people think of as a ripoff of Godzilla, Cloverfield.

This is how people who aren't familar with the genre relate to it.

You're just jealous. :oldrazz:

I'm just saying story wise its far more similar to Independence Day and that despite the presence of giant machines, that's probably a better comparison and should have been the comparison that marketing had attempted to make.

Corny Speeches, nerdy scientists, tagline ready quotes and improbable solutions to alien threats. Good times to be had.

Will we be getting a final trailer this weekend? One last push to try and sell this movie.

I don't see anything objectionable about describing it as Transformers vs. Godzilla and I hate Transformers and don't care about Godzilla one way or the other. Is it too simplistic of a description? I suppose but I describe plenty of films in that manner.

I understand why the people who are really looking forward to the film reject it though. When you have built something up in your mind you get really nit picky at any precieved slights to that thing. I tried not to but I did the same thing in other forums despite hating myself for falling into that trap. Hell, I'm not perfect. And add on top of that the negativity surrounding the tracking numbers? It's a credit to everyone here that this place isn't...crazier.

When I was on holiday in New York I saw a lot of TV spots and the same now that I' am back home.

Not seen many, but then I've been on History, Discovery, Science, Animal Planet and occasionally Cartoon Network a lot lately. But then outside of Cartoon Network and maybe Science, there's probably not much of an audience for it on the other stations.

I see them on FX and MTV and TNT as well.

So there is a final trailer. They really should've released this like a month ago. Not just action but with human elements.

I know, where was this trailer a month ago? I'm not trying to be negative but it's baffling to me why this wasn't released sooner. Oh well better late than never...

I bet you that final trailer is going to be attached to The Lone Ranger.

Which is good, because many moviegoers, particularly fans of Johnny Depp, are going to be swarming theaters to see that film (mainly for Johnny Depp), which means more publicity for Pacific Rim.
