The names jaeger names are fun, sure you could say its stupid but it fits in with the silly/cheesy vibe of the movie.

The movie was Mako's story but god forbid a movie isn't starring a hot white guy.

The most compelling character for me was Mako. I loved her backstory and arc.

The little girl that played her younger self was terrific. I got all sad when she was trying to find her parents in the destroyed streets.

I liked her till the film completely stopped caring about her story/development half way.

Why didn't the nations of the world just set up a blockade and nuke every monster right as they were coming through the portal? We know nukes kill'em easy and it's in an uninhabited region of the globe. Just blast'em.

There are lots of things they could have done, I for one thought there would be a better demonstration of how powerful or rather durable the monsters were. Now I see that they are even vulnerable to cold...(bring out the liquid nitrogen series of weapons lol).

The cool thing though was that just like the megazords the monsters had marks of their own and improved with each outing. That would def present a dilemma.
The emp should have been a trump card.

I told my sister that I wanted to adopt that kid. Such a cutie. And those scenes were well done I'll admit.

Always man of steel with you, 20years of hit films and it's that one you keep referencing...Armageddon, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, many others come to mind.

Anyways, yes alot of films have contrived ways of getting around ideas, this one has it's fair share, they may bother some, they may not.

That little girl's crying and running was top notch. She made it very believable and authentic.

i bet there was a meeting with del Toro and Legendary. and they told him
producer: ok you can cast a japanese actress and ok Mako will be have a bigger role. but the movie is about Raleigh who will be a white male character
del Toro: can Mako save and trigger the nuclear engine at the end?
producer:hahahahh you are joking right?

but ok i am happy that Mako was important character with a good flashback and a cute actress.

there is no way we will get Wonder Woman. if we get a movie with her it will be pathetic. those producers are insane.

No not really, the beauty and the beast television show put him on the map along with you know about 200 other projects he has been in. Granted most will know him today from those two projects but his overall popularity comes from a very long spanning career, from voice work to live action roles. I think it takes away from him to say he is popular only from 2 roles.

I'd be willing to bet money most of the young navy guys weren't cheering his work on beauty in the beast or any of the miscellaneous projects. Are you trolling me?

i like how the flashback was used in her first Drift experience. and how her first drift almost made her kill 100 people in the hangar. the Drift was just good storytelling IMO.

latest update is 36.5mill for the weekend and 3rd place really thought this would do better come on grown-ups 2 really! I thought this kind of movie would draw the transformer crowd this was actually better than transformers for me!da looks like no franchise for this

Exactly. You can bet Legendary are starting to get worried as hell about Godzilla now because of that.

I already thought that movie had very little shot at making any significant impact at the box office, after Pacific Rim, my outlook certainly hasn't gotten any better.

Watched this movie earlier and I LOVED it. Went with a few friends and the cinema was fairly full, lots of kids and families (which I was surprised at since Monsters University opened yesterday here in the UK too). We all agreed that the movie was lacking with the characters and the story was at times a bit predictable, it made up for it in sheer spectacle and awesomeness. I had a massive grin across my face the whole movie.

I'd give it an 8/10. Really hope this movie does well at the box office, I'd like to see a sequel but if it doesn't make enough then it won't really matter because it's quite a self-contained story.

Agree with the criticisms of Hunman (Hunnam?), thought he was a bit monotone and stoic. IMO I think Chris Pine would have been better

Heard a few people (including me) exclaim "Holy. ****." during the Hong Kong fight scene. That was absolutely incredible

The last American remake was a flop, and this movie about huge monsters from the sea is doing below expectation. What makes you think Godzilla would be fine?

It was a pretty terrible movie.
