Pacific Rim - Part 6

They are entitled to their opinions but when I think about Tom Hardy in the warrior, I don't think bad acting or cartoonish. I have seen bad acting and Tom's performance is NOT one of them. Again, people are entitled to their opinions but I still think that we saw very different films if they thought his acting sucked in that movie and critics seemed to agree with me on that.
What does it even mean "we saw different films". You can just say "we disagree" and it would be more frank and less absurd.

I see where he is coming from. I personally don't get how anyone can see a cheesy or cartoony from Hardy either. Like, where is this cartoonish aspect? His performance is just as down to Earth as the rest of the cast. It's not a matter of simply disliking or not agreeing with their opinions. It's about legitimately not understanding how they could come to that conclusion.

The same could apply to the other side. That how such a horrible performance is considered good by people.

The world would be happier if people are not confounded by differing opinions. Not understanding other people's opinions has resulted in the greatest disasters in the world.

You're getting a little OTT here. I'm not speaking for ShadowBoxer, but where I am coming from isn't "BAH I disagree with that opinion so I will hold malice toward them!" It's about being genuinely baffled by the conclusion they came to. I'm not saying thay can't have that opinion, but that opinion makes no sense. I honestly don't think anyone can actually watch Warrior and call anybody in the film cartoony. Cartoony elements are so far removed from that film it IS baffling how anybody can go there in the first place.

I may sound like I am contradicting myself, I am all for difference of opinion. But I also believe opinions need context and backing up. To simply state something like Hardy is cartoony without any context is off and makes no sense. Watch the film. There is nothing overt the top, kitschy or goofy in his part at all. Of the three leads his character is actually the most reserved. Everything about his character is so diametrically opposite of what cartoony means that to me, the opinion is beyond understanding.

We will just agree to disagree on it, this is a pacific rim topic not Tom Hardy's performance in Warrior topic.

I agree with everything you said.

If anything, saying he was AWESOME is without context and without backing up, just the same as saying he was awful.

No one presented their reasons, no one is obliged to.

By the way I did not even used the word cartoony, someone else used it. I just said he was awful so if you took special offense at the word cartoony, you'd be better off addressing that person rather than me. I wouldn't insult perfectly good cartoons by comparing them to Hardy. :D

I am taken aback that such a terrible performance can have so many passionate supporters but long live opinion I guess!

No, I wasn't responding to you're opinion just your response to Shadowboxer.

And yes, I think people are obligated to post their reasoning behind their opinions. That's how discussion boards function well without it all being "IT ROCKED BEST THING EVA...IT SUCKED BEST THING EVAA!"

And totally cool you think he was terrible. That is more legitimate than claiming he's cartoony, which I believe is a relatively objective thing.

When that person used cartoony, I could totally see where he was coming from. So I don't think it was bogus claim on that person's part.

It's becoming clear that your trying to troll here by this post and the post before. So lets all just agree to disagree about Tom Hardy's performance in Warrior, this is a pacific rim topic.

there is no way a human walks and acts like Hardy in warrior in real life. movies are set in a movie universe. i liked warrior and i liked his performance. but it was over the top to me. it was an artistic choice from Hardy.

Man this looks great on bluray. Another great commentary from Del Toro also.

But that's pretty much how Hardy walks in everything.

Back on topic, I am really glad I bought the blu ray combo pack as this is the most fully featured combo pack I have bought in a few years. Haven't watched the movie yet but seeing the Jagers and Kaiju in greater detail makes them even more awesome!

Of the 6 billion + humans on this planet I'm sure you could find odder behavior than Hardys in Warrior.

On topic: can not wait to check out the bluray!

Wow I really apologize for derailing this thread with an off topic Hardy reference. Jeeze!

I am very excited to see this on blu-ray, blu-ray.com said its a contender for BD of 2013, its that good, the picture looks amazing as well.

^Still no talk of a PR sequel? I wonder if the BD/DVD sales are good in the US will that give it more chance of one? The movie did make over $400 million at the BO when all is said and done, not a bad take at all.

IGN asks him directly about that. He says they are actively writing the film though the green light is beyond his pay grade. Doesn't look like its on his docket for the next two years at all, which is fine.

I'm doubtful there will be a sequel. It's one of those movies that was poorly/inadequately marketed and allowed to fail.

Lets see , you posted this and I quote

Anyone saying Tom hardy was terrible or his performance in The Warrior was cartoonish either didn't see the movie at all or is trolling.

Basically anyone who does not think the same as you is trolling for you. Sounds like behavior of a petulant teenager to me. The irony of you decrying trolling after making the kind of posts you did above might be lost on you.

I'll admit I took part in the off-topic argument, but this is the Pacific Rim thread, not the "Tom Hardy's performance in Warrior" thread, so let's all just agree to disagree and move on and discuss Pacific Rim, not Tom Hardy or Warrior.
